(1000th Post) The Power of NEGATIVE Affirmations... Discuss.

I've had this sort of brewing in my head for awhile... that, and it's my 1000th post. It took me awhile to even get to THIS point (long story), butttttttttt we're all here now.

AFFIRMATIONS. You've probably been exposed to them. If you've never consciously made affirmations to yourself, what comes to mind when you think of them? I'll start with the usual ones, the ones you've probably heard so many times that, if you don't believe in them, they sound cliche:

I am deserving of love, prosperity and abundance
I am seeing success in my life every day
I am confident in myself and who I am
I am weightless in a field of sunshine and daisies while unicorns dance around me
(Okay, maybe that last one was my own smartassery)

Etc etc etc

If you've never affirmed these things to yourself... better yet, it feels absolutely silly (if not outright STUPID) to say that you're seeing success in your life every day, especially when you know you've failed, and just telling yourself you feel successful when you clearly don't is a form of self-delusion, right? In that sense, what's the point of making affirmations?

Here's a revolutionary idea, that I admit, took me awhile to realize myself:

EVERYONE MAKES AFFIRMATIONS.

Here's the kicker though: Not all affirmations are good.

I'm not saying that the ones that affirm positivity, joy, abundance, etc into your life are bad. I'm not saying that at all. The ones that are BAD are the ones that you tell yourself, to keep yourself down. The ones that talk about being a failure, losing faith in yourself or in others, about being unworthy, about money slipping through your fingers, about never having enough time to do the things you enjoy or spend it with people you love.

Why mention these things? After all, no author in their right mind would ever suggest it. They don't have to. No one has ever written a book suggesting those kinds of affirmations, but people do it anyway. Why?

Because everyone uses affirmations of SOME form... ALL THE TIME.

Have you ever repeated negative affirmations to yourself? Are you doing that now? I can't throw a book of positive thinking at you and expect you to change your thought processes overnight. It requires deep digging, deep thinking, and processing. There's no cookie-cutter, one-size-fits-all way to do it. Your life experience, your thoughts, are unique.

However... it's an Act of Will to decide, decide to dig through the trenches of your own mind and clear out the poison. It's not easy, but can be done. That, I've found, starts with becoming aware of the affirmations you've already been using - whatever they may be, for better or worse.

What you focus on, expands. Affirmations bring this to the forefront of your conscious mind. In turn, the unconscious mind seeks to manifest it. Law of Attraction in its most brusque.

Realizing my own affirmations - ones that I'd already been making for some time, but am NOW AWARE OF IT. One such affirmation: "My life is ALWAYS an adventure." It's true. For better or worse, it's true... I'm known, even notorious, for always having some new story to tell... some of which STILL manage to knock the socks off some of my closest friends. Why? I've affirmed that to myself countless of times. Would I have it any other way? Doubt it.

So before I head off to bed (and end the incoherence of this post), I wanted to get you to thinking:

1.) What affirmations are you making, RIGHT now, that you're not aware of?

2.) What are the nature of your affirmations? Empowering? Destructive? Chaotic? Constraining?

3.) If you've found yourself perpetuating negativity... why? How can that change?

4.) How have your affirmations changed, for better or worse, over time?

5.) Any tips or suggestions for others?

Any and all discussion is appreciated. I really wanted to get something going that would not only help out other Warriors, but also ourselves...

Great post! Especially since IM can feel pretty lonely sometimes. Changing my affirmations and mindset to a positive one have made me a more fun person to be around

1.) What affirmations are you making, RIGHT now, that you're not aware of?
Life is a journey and like a roller coaster ride I will laugh and enjoy the ride with all it's ups and down, twists and turns, and want to do it all over again

2.) What are the nature of your affirmations? Empowering? Destructive? Chaotic? Constraining?
Right now I would say open because I open my mind and heart to learn to see the world as it really is, that is without cognising and analysing. Accept things as they are and not to react in a negative way.

3.) If you've found yourself perpetuating negativity... why? How can that change?
Usually it is because of my bad habit pattern of my mind that is so used to reacting in a negative way. I change that by reminding myself that I am neither my past nor my past memories. I have to consciously remind myself that I am living in the now and must cherish every moment that is good and bad because that moment is fleeting.

4.) How have your affirmations changed, for better or worse, over time?
Affirmations changed for better over the past 2 years. As a result I am seeing how wonderful my life and the world around me is, as well as opportunities are opening for me.

5.) Any tips or suggestions for others?
Stop saying horrible things to yourself in the mirror in the morning. For some people it could feel narcissistic to say positive affirmations to your own reflection (ie: good morning gorgeous), ok then at least smile at yourself while you are brushing your teeth. You will get a better brush and have a good anti-ageing facial exercise.

That is quite true. I personally find challenging or tuning out my own negative thinking to be good.
