Hey I am reading the book "The Power of Focus" by Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hansen and Les Hewitt. This is a great book and I am halfway through it after 1 day. Now my question is has anyone else read this book and followed through with setting up your goals and goal book?
Can you tell me if you followed through and how it unfolded for you?

I just think it's so interesting to hear peoples stories, it helps me keep my own focus, so if anyone would like to share, I will gladly listen

    Hey Kim,

I haven't personally had the chance to get through it myself. But a close friend of mine who is a local Real Estate guru here in my area recommended it to me and he absolutley loved it.

I do plan on starting it this weekend if I can cut through some of my projects I have going on.But I would love to come back and give you my thoughts on it.As well as here some of yours or anyone else who would like to share.

Hi, Kim: I haven't read that book, but I am a believer in the power of focus and using written goals to guide you. For me, written goals serve two main purposes: first of all, they provide focus when my attention is slipping or on those days when you're having trouble getting going; second, they provide a visual challenge, like, "Here's the goal (or here is the list) - let's see what you can do about it today!"

I have not read that particular book but I have read other books on success from Mark Victor Hansen and Jack Canfield. (As an aside, I was once doing a video shoot with Jack Canfield where we were both being taped for the same training DVD and shared the stage that weekend. BTW, this was several years ago. :-) )

I have learned a lot from both of them but particularly Jack Canfield especially when we got together in my home town.

From all the many things I've learned about having goals and writing them down, the two main things I always remember are:

    1) Do the same amount of the core things every day. Consistency is the key to obtaing goals. Not a lot and then nothing and then a lot. Whatever it is, do it daily. He and Mark had a system where they made so many phone calls (lets say the number picked was 7) so they would make sure they made 7 phones calles every day. Whatever it was and whatever you decide to do, do it daily.

    2) Ask. Seems simple enough. He said most people don't get what they want but when you ask them if they asked anyone for it or for help, they will say they never thought of it.
So we asked Jack Canfield to come to our home town and he did.

As for how it has worked out for me....I have many boxes of notebooks with pages full of daily, weekly, monthly and yearly goals and as I've accomplished them, I check them off with the date of completion. Whenever I need a boost, which isn't very often anymore, I pull some of those out and look at the accomplishments.

    I hope that helps you.

Great post thanks for sharing the book I will read it. Focus to me is everything and the difference between us experiencing greatness and mediocrity. With a intent focus single minded on one thing I have seen my life improve so fast I think I am dreaming. Two things that have helped me is don't put a time limit on goals and two see if you can keep your mind focused only on one thought. You will see the mind is like a drunken monkey!

Yes, the mind works so fast that trying to focus on one thing is difficult because the mind will go over many things in a matter of seconds.

I think the goal then is to keep bringing it back to what you want to focus on.

Also, to me, focus is about action too not just the mind. To keep doing something until it is finished and not to have a lot of partly done projects.

This part was funny---You will see the mind is like a drunken monkey!

If you try to chase two rabbits, both will escape. Focussing on your goals is essential.

Focus is the most important determination of whether you’ll achieve a goal or you'll fail. If you can’t maintain your focus, you won’t achieve your purpose.

Focus is what it is about. When a working mom was asked how she does stellar work and has two well-parented kids, she replied, "When I am at work, I do the best work I can do. When I am home, I am at home...and I am the best mom I can be."

If you are having trouble getting focussed on your IM goals, I recommend small steps. Do a little more each day. Gradually move up your work schedule until you are where you want to be. And...don't be afraid to take a day off. You may find ideas waiting for you as you relax...and you will return to your work with renewed vigor.
