How to figure out your passion?

Everyone agrees (including myself) that a business should be built around your passion. I love running websites but other than that, I don't know what my passion is and I think it is holding me back from building a successful business.

How do I figure out what my passion is?

I have tried to think about what I would do if I reach my desired level of success, and I honestly don't know...yea I would travel, take a vacation, etc... but other than that, I am clueless.

    1. Dedicate one or two days a week to explore your passions; Keep a journal of your discoveries.
2.Consider the classes that you excelled in or were excited about when you were in high school or college.
3.Pick up a course syllabus from your local community college and browse the various courses available. Circle all of the classes that sound interesting to you.
4.Visit an online community or event bulletin board for your area,to find hobbies, events and classes that you might be interested in.
5.Explore the various online communities and groups on sites,Participate in the discussions when you feel comfortable, and ask plenty of questions of people who are experienced in that field.
6.Ask family members, friends and associates if they are passionate about their lives and work. If so, ask them how they were able to discover this passion to get inspiration for finding your own

One good way to figure out your passion is to join a "Mastermind Group". Every time I join one, I gain insight into what I'm good at & what I like. I'm always surprised (in a good way) at what others see in me. Maybe the word shocked would better describe it. Others in the group point out something that I'm good at. I just assumed that everyone knew the stuff I knew & that it was no big deal. Join one. You'll be surprised & delighted. It may point you in a direction that you had no plans to go into.

    Good luck in your journey,
    Madam X

I believe figuring out our passion is one of the most important thinks we can do for ourselves and the world at large, yet unfortunately we are not told to do so our 'education' and instead are told to be 'realistic'. Everyone has a true life purpose and everyone has the potential to live in exactly the manner they'd like if they can just discover that passion and then find an effective way to market it to the world

I disagree. My passion would be something in the photographic industry, but whenever I've done something in that, it becomes work, not play. I know a few photographers, for example, who opt out of going pro because they don't want to ruin their hobby (as well as it's not nearly as easy as people make it seem to be a photographer).

Does passion help? Absolutely. But I wouldn't speak in absolute terms that a passion is a must.

Ask yourself: what do I like to talk about all day?

    There's your answer.

People make out like this is some big LIFE IMPORTANT thing. It's not. What do you like talking about all day right now? For now?

You can always change it later.

Imagine what you would do if you could do anything at all and money was no concern and you had no obligations to anyone else.

Do you really not know what you would do given those circumstances? Would you ... play video games? Ride a bike? Go hiking? Do a lot of cooking? Dedicate yourself to achieving spiritual enlightenment? Teach others about something you know and are good at? There's gotta be something

    Hi Byalik,

    Here's a suggestion.

Ask yourself what couldn't you live without doing. It may be playing video games, it may be nightclubbing it may be playing Rugby, it may be building Web sites, it may be optimising web sites or whatever and you should end up with a few items on a list.

If you draw a blank then write a list of all the things that you do each day over a week. Now circle the things that you wouldn't give up and those are you passions.

    I hope that helps.

Take good care of those that you love.

Great advice. Basically, find something you wouldn't mind doing day in and day for no pay and you'll be that much closer to finding your true passion.

One way to identify your passion is to ask yourself :"If I won the lottery so money was of no concern, what would I still do that is ethical and can be moneytised?"

Even better if it met a third criteria, was on service to others.

I would start restaurants, night clubs, vacation resorts, etc. I don't know how much I want to start them as first ventures, but I want to start them when I have some money to throw away (you can imagine what "some money" is for those undertakings).

What would you do even if you didn't get paid?

If you can't answer that, I'd check in with a coach or accountability buddy to start discovering your passions.

    Good luck!

In a moment, I'm going to share with you how i've helped
myself and others figure out our true passions.

First, I'd like to say that I see a lot of great advice in the posts
above. I've found that most of the concepts that help are related.

Byalik, I know what it's like.. I spent a few years searching to
find true passion worth pursuing. Once I took the time to regress
and open my mind, I was able to come up with some cool ideas...

Now.. Imagine being a kid again...
Focus on all the things you absolutely loved the most.

A few activities, hobbies, or interests should stand out if you
concentrate deeply. Your thoughts will naturally expand upon what
    feels the best.

Imagine now that you have a special box...
Everytime you open this box, you have all the resources to
make your wildest dreams - realities.

What do these realities look like?

There should be congruencies somewhere between what you
loved as a kid, the current interests you have, and the stuff
    your dreams are made of...

    "Listen to your gut."

Do these exercises until the answers become so obvious that
you kick yourself for not figuring out your true passions sooner.

    To your Freedom,

    B

A good place to start is to ask those who are close to you. What do they think you would be good at..believe it or not the people around you will provide you with a lot of insight on who they think you are. You then use their opinion to help you figure out your direction..
