Your Future in 15 Minutes a Day

Has talking about planning ever been useful? Has it moved your life forward?
I think we can agree that's a big "NO".

The excuses:
"I don't have time."
"My job keeps me too busy."
"Hey look, that TV show about that thing is on."

Take fifteen minutes out of the day, every day, to do something that makes you feel like you did "something".

What you should do?
Whether it's making a decision, submitting a payment, reserving an appointment, or researching an option, you have to have made progress that you can build on for your next day. If it helps, focus on a theme per session. like travel, education, fitness, etc. It'll help the time fly by and really make you feel like you didn't waste it.

When you should do it?
What works best for you? Right after work, first thing in the morning, right before bed? Whether it's scheduled or just a matter of finding 15 minutes in a day, it's really up to you. The only thing you can't say is you don't have time for it. It's only 15 minutes!

Where you should do it?
Where do you feel you can focus for 15 minutes? Do it there. You're not limited by location.

Why you should try it?
In 15 minutes you can make decisions that will affect your life and make you feel better doing it. Just the act of taking action in your life can help make you happier about your future and where it's going -- because it's going somewhere.

15 minutes can make you feel better about the next year.

I talk about this all the time.

I usually use "5 minutes a day" but it's the same concept.

If people would just put a little bit of effort into what they want to achieve, then they will be so much further by just being consistent everyday, even if that only means a few minutes.

    Great post.

The excuses go on and on and on and they are complete bullcrap. People just don't want to succeed that give excuses. They are afraid of what it'll be like.

In the end, take "Nikes" word for it and "Just do it!"

I have been using this concept for a while now and I use the time to write down a to do list for the next day.

    It helps me keep focused.

    Hey,
This is another great post! This is all about setting smaller goals so that we can work up to achieving bigger ones. In Psychology they always recommend giving clients small "homework" assignments that they can easily accomplish to re-instill a sense of confidence. This is a great plan to follow for anyone who has issues staying focused or procrastination too.

That's an excellent idea. Basically take some action and don't expect instant results. I think it was Steve Pavlina who said people overestimate what they can achieve in one year but underestimate what they can achieve in five.

I have taken it a step further. I write down 3 things I want to get done today (or tomorrow). WHEN I get those 3 things done, I feel like I accomplished something in a day. I try to make the list visible, or I keep thinking about it so that I know if I don't get these done, I will be upset with myself.

Also, getting those things done make me want to do more. I feel like anything extra I do is icing on the cake, and it makes me more motivated to work.

You're totally right. I changed my mind 2 years ago, and my life changed overnight. I have a DOC file that I complete every single day in 5 minutes. It is just to Make things happen!

This is a great idea. I make my list the night before, keeping it simple, and it works. Next day I just go to it, I don't have time to overthink.

This fits good with the Ready-Fire-Aim technique. You
'trap' yourself in a action inducing situation by deciding
to go for something and declaring it open (probably with
self imposed consequences) and just go 'do it!'

After firing, you then adjust your aim to get better results.

This way, you gain a baseline from the initial fire
and you work for growth from there.

15 minutes to decide and get ready...fire...aim!
