Can Positive Thinking Pay The Rent?

You're here to make money right?

I mean there are a lot of forums out there that rabbit on about anything but as an excuse to actually taking some action.

I have as one of my favourite books "Power Of Positive Thinking" but it is no substitute for action.

I find that positive books help to change my mood when I get a bit flat but what really works is some sort of action.

Even a seemingly non profit action like starting a garden (Rodale does a great book with great sales copy called Square Foot Gardening) or going for a swim in the ocean has been really effective for me over the years.

The great thing I find with a garden (I like herbs as they have a purpose) is that I use it as a metaphor for my business. It shows me the need for daily, proper action and that there is a natural cycle of growth and reward.

Any other warrior closet herb gardeners out there?

    Stephen,

Agreed. The point you make is vital. Positive thinking alone can't achieve anything monetarily. There must be action that follows.

More specifically there must be action that has focus and clarity based on a desired result.

Vagueness doesn't work in this game. Getting clear and specific about what you want and how you plan to get it is the name of the game.

    Best to all,

Yeah, positive thinking is not everything, but its make lots of different. Positive thinkers act differently compare with negative thinker.

Positive thinking will eventually lead you to make an action, but the negative thinking will stop you from moving forward.

Negative thoughts can haunt a person and even paralyse them. It is really serious.

So discipline our mind to be positive thinkers every moment of our lives.

I think it can but not on its own.

I took a course in developing a positive attitude including positive affirmations and of course positive thinking along with a work life balance and other similar topics. It lasted about three months and was company wide one day a week for an hour with "homework" in between.

It worked well within the organisation we achieved a lot but after a while the emphasis left us and I personally continued with my positive affirmations and setting smart goals.

            Specific Measurable Agreed Realistic Timely

These were intended to be a management tool but I used them as a self management tool as well. This included taking action on the goals as they all had specified timescales associated with them.

It came as a shock to me when I realised I had met all my original goals, I found the course in the cupboard and reviewed my notes and although my 5 year goal had taken me 8 years I had actually got there with positive thinking and a completer finisher ethos.

Positive thinking alone won't get you there but it can help if you apply it every day

              Warriors

Thanks to all for the replies.

paul8368 I totally agree about the goal setting deal. It is surprising how it works so well and yet how few do it.
I know a guy who does nothing else but get people to list goals then keeps them focused on those goals and taking action. He is booked solid.

jhongren and nooraza yeah I completely agree about. I read a book awhile back I think "Ask and It Be Given" by the Hicks / Abraham gang and they had some great exercises at the back for breaking that numbing negative cloud. Simple stuff but anything that interrupts the pattern (hello all nlp junkies out there) is worth it. John Harricharan sells a $97 course called Power Pause based on this principle and he has strong testimonials from a lot of big players.

Hi I am a big fan of positive thinking as shown in the article below:

Can Watching "Star Trek" Make You Happy And Successful?

Interested in being happier and more successful? We can all learn a lesson from an episode of TV's "Star Trek" that gets in under our radar and teaches us the importance of focusing on the positive.

In one episode of Star Trek the crew lands on a vacation destination planet where they could create any reality they wanted, just by thinking about it. At first the crew has a great time creating wonderful things, but gradually they become bored and tired and begin to focus on negative things, which creates negative situations for their reality there. Many of us run our lives the same way, by starting out focusing on the things we want, but then shift our focus to what we don't want and our lives turns out as badly as the "Star Trek" crew's in that episode.

So how do you focus on the positive? You need to make a decision to focus on the positive, it doesn't just happen. As a motivational expert, I stress the importance of having goals to guide your life and "focusing on the positive" should be one of them.

People attending my seminars are surprised when I tell them to announce to the people they are in contact with that you intend to focus on the positive. My personal experience with this is that the reactions you receive to this will run the gamut from total acceptance to almost outright hostility. I advise you not to let the reaction of others to affect your own thoughts and behavior. By announcing to the world that you intend to focus on the positive, you reinforce your decision to be positive by putting yourself on notice and encouraging other people to give you feedback on how you are doing regarding being positive.

Scientific research can help you take full advantage of a positive focus to make decisions. Research shows that we tend to become happier as we move through the day. Our mood is generally lowest when we wake then peaks at noon, then declines till four in the afternoon, and then begins to build to its highest point of the day around 10 PM. So use those peak times to make plans, set goals, tackle hard jobs, etc. Make decisions when you are the most upbeat during the day in order to reduce the negatives in your life from pulling you back.

It also helps to realize that you can only control yourself, you can't control things like the weather, things that other people do or don't do, mechanical failures and so on. Focusing only on what you can control takes a lot of pressure off you and leads to greater happiness.

Business and Life Coach Theresa A Smith spends time having her clients become very clear about what they want of life and then helping them focus heavily on pursuing the steps needed to attain the life they want. She finds knowing what you want out of life and then working towards it is the number one step her clients can take that gives them long lasting happiness.

I publish a free daily One Minute Motivator via email and youtube and in a recent one I said " Every day we have a choice. We can choose to focus on negative thoughts that leave us feeling insecure, frightened and cynical or we can choose to focus on positive thoughts that empower us and fill us with a sense of optimism about our world and our role in it. What type of thoughts we choose to focus on, grow stronger, and the other type will grow weaker. Make the choice to focus on the positive, and you will find it gets easier the longer you do it."

In my book Sixty Seconds To Success, I make a similar point. "Your focus is your future. You get what you focus on. You can focus on the things that will move you and your projects ahead, or you can focus on things that will not. Focus brings all your power together and enables you to do things in one area that you couldn't do without it. Picture yourself achieving your goals, and your chances of achieving them go up dramatically. Believe it and you'll see it.

What you think about on a daily basis is what your future will be like. Tibetan monks believe that if you want to know your future, look at what you're doing right now. Everything we do now affects what will happen next. Our life's a chain of now's and all the things we did in those now's. Now is what counts and now is what will make your future."

The two worlds are there for each of us to choose which to live in. Choose the world of your dreams and focus on the positive in your life-it's as close as your next thought- and before long your dream will be your reality.

Positive thinking is very important and it is the first step towards the right path in life. Positive thinking alone will never pay your bills. Getting up off your behind and taking action is just as important as having a positive "can do" attitude.

In my opinion, positive thinking is what leads to consistency. When you believe that you're doing the right things and you understand that hard work pays off then you're more likely to take action on a consistent basis.

Reading positive books, and listening to positive audio helps you to stay focused on what you need to do on a daily basis and helps you to prevent distraction which can lead to inaction or lack of motivation.

balanced thinking ..there is problems that come up if you are too optimistic or do not prepare for things that can go wrong ..

few people would skydive without a reserve shoot .

true positive thinking that is practiced by the most successful people is really 99 percent about confidence in their ability to manage risks .

and gardening and producing some of your own food is one of those risks to manage in todays world.

look at r\ocket stoves , worm composting..and to build on square foot gardening..wicking beds ..and if you are able ..chickens .

it has been a ice age winter her ..cold sense october so no growing food fer me ..

there are a lot of opportunities for profit today from growing food near or in cities in small plots ..or where the big money is usually made..supporting and supplying those who do .

Quite a good way to think about things. I might just have to start my own garden to keep me motivated. I find that motivation is one of the hardest things to keep, and it's even harder to get back once you've lost it. I'm just getting back into IM after a couple years of being out of it, and getting my motivation back is the hardest thing. I will personally make sites even if I don't plan on monetizing them solely for the purpose of getting back my motivation.

Positive thinking can help you improve your attitude toward the world around you. You start to attract people, opportunities and money. So eventually you can pay the rent. But thinking positive doesn't mean ignoring a reality!

The power of positive thinking and taking action took me from - £80,000 (just under $135,000) in debt to earning + £350,000 ($590,000) a year. I now own six houses and run my own consulting and training company and live life on my terms. For me the power of positive thinking should never be underestimated! However, you still have to do the work!

"The Secret" was a horrible event for society as far as I'm concerned, although I appreciate that it gave people peace and introduced them to Zen concepts, the fact remains happy thoughts achieve nothing in this reality which you of course realize too -

Happy or wishful thoughts achieve nothing - what they do however accomplish is defense against self-destructive thoughts or negativity. To be in the moment frees one of fear which is an immediate advantage in business, but to remain in the moment without action is being a monk which clearly has no place alongside earning money.

I don't quite agree with your overall thought here but I will say that The Secret was very much inadequate in it's explanation of the LoA or Law of Attraction.

That monk-like state of silence or no thinking helps align us to our intuition. It quiets the always thinking/calculating brain and allows us to "feel" more than think.

Don't get me wrong, calculation is good for business. No business can function without analysis of the numbers and strategic planning for the future, but it's the insight from intuitive gut feeling that allows the top billionaires and investors to get ahead.

Projecting a vision of the future as truth, somewhat like what The Secret instructed, is only part of the picture. There has to be extreme clarity of the goal, full acceptance of one's current situation, focus on attaining that goal and through action we manifest the goal.

Here clarifying your goal is not the same as focusing, though they may appear the same.

Clarifying your goal simply means to figure out what the hell you want with minimal if any internal dispute about your intended result.

Focusing on the goal, now clarified, means visualization and richly enveloping yourself within the substance of the goal. It's almost like your own personal virtual reality of whatever the goal is, lived entirely within the silence a quieted mind within meditation.

The title of this thread is a bit funny to me. It's like asking a yes or no question about the meaning of life - it doesn't exactly work that way. You're talking about something that not a lot of people understand and so a binary answer just doesn't cut it.

With the proper mental and international preparation anything can happen. But you must be completely 100% internally congruent with your goals in order for full achievement of your goals to be attained.

If even 1% of you is out of alignment with your goal the full picture won't be achieved.

Think of this like driving a car with a single tire that wobbles when going above 60 mph.

Anything below the goal of moving at 60 mph is fine but problems start to arise the second you go over, and it definitely can't be sustained for very long if it goes over.

Same thing for most people who make it big too quickly. They might have been internally congruent at a goal like 6 figures a year...but as soon as 7 figures is made or whatever their internal problems start to arise and the whole thing goes out of whack.

This isn't the full picture of course, but it's part of the larger picture that is: idea, goal creation, focus, action, goal manifestation.

Definitely NOT as easy as The Secret espouses it to be, but it's a step in the right direction.
