How To Truly Eliminate Procrastination...

Let's go a step before action. That is the obvious answer. Let's analyze why people truly procrastinate. Its lack of definite purpose. Without a mountain to climb it will be hard to take focused action. People without a definite purpose are chickens with their head cut off running around a dark field with no goal in sight. People with no definite purpose search for other people's how to methods.

What is not realized is that you must have a unique definite purpose that comes from your own mind. You first have to define what you want. After you define your definite purpose you then take massive focused action. You will need to go in with the mentality for your purpose that you are willing to spend the remainder of your life pursuing your purpose in order to have the mentality for success.

Too many people will procrastinate because they have not chosen a purpose that they believe in 100%. Action cures procrastination but only after you define your definite purpose and back it with 100% belief. When you have the pieces in place you will be staring up at your mt Everest with 100% belief that you will make it to the top. Climb like a madman...

At times I know exactly what I want to achieve but it seems my brain is short of a chemical which gives me the drive to put in the effort to do it. Some days are great whilst others aren't so great.

Despite this however I press on an get the job done.

I agree with you that purpose plays a major role in our daily activities. It will influence you to take a certain action because you want to achieve a specific goal and not just for the sake of it.

"Begin with the end in mind" is certainly true. You won't exert yourself if you didn't have an enticing (to you) objective that you strongly desire and believe in.

Also, one other thing that may help eliminate procrastination is to break down a goal into smaller, more immediate goals or tasks. When you set out to accomplish a relatively modest objective, it seems doable. This allows you to take action more easily.

      Thanks!

I do this, and it helps huge, huge amounts. I've broken my yearly goals down into quarterly and monthly goals, and from there I make a brief list of what it'll take to reach each applicable monthly goal at the beginning of each month.

I then further bread those tasks down and assign them to each week within the current month, and then assign weekly tasks to each day. Very effective.

You nailed it Nadia - I've been a slow convert to this way of time management but now that I do it I don't know how I ever coped without it.

It's very refreshing to do a block of work and know that you've achieved something productive with your time instead of just buzzing around from one time wasting activity to another:rolleyes:

I agree with this so much. Its not until you get it down to its smallest part, the daily tasks, that you can really focus, and be in the moment, doing one thing at a time. Its much easier to get things done this way. Breeze through your list. Make sure each task is broken down to its smallest component, and is very specific.

Sometimes even with the best laid out plans, goals, ambitions it's hard to get going and just to get a start. I think once your up and running and begin to achieve you goals and are seeing results everything becomes easier.

Once you start seeing results the hunger to keep going really picks up and it gets easier. But for me, the process of planning everything and laying out my goals can be difficult. But once I get stuck into it everything seems to flow better.

Procrastination really is the enemy for success. Overcome it and results will come.

This is great advice. Procrastination can really put a affect your business. I also believe to beat procrastination you can try to get you momentum going by starting your project in small pieces and the more you do the more momentum you'll pick up.

By the way, there is also what's called creative procrastination; which works well most of the time. For instance, if you want to buy new furniture and you have various offers, you do not have to make a decision immediately. You can think about it overnight and pick on a supplier the following day.

procrastination is a great tool for self examination ..

you procrastinate on something .. so you ask yourself .."if this isn't important enough to me,for me to do right now. what is? "

i am a master of procrastination ! it's interesting if you can ask yourself why things are more important and answer honestly..

also time is going faster and faster..there is less off to put stuff off to ..

  • This is exactly why motivational gurus, coaches, mentors, teachers, speakers and authors usually always start talking about dreams and visions. This is not new and makes perfect sense, as you do.

However, that still will not always move some to action.

    You know what always works?

Finding yourself in front of an elephant stampede.

Analise that and you will find "a" way to to stop procrastinating and getting started.

We are looking at this the wrong way around.

You have to find your passion before you do anything. Without it you won't get anything meaningful done (will procrastinate).

You need to find your 'why'.

To stop procrastinating is a like dealing with death. noone can tell you how to grieve and noone can tell you how to eliminate procrastination. It is very personal, so, do some soul searching, and, good luck on your journey.

Sometimes people procrastinate because they may have set a goal that is too high or too difficult to accomplish---as it was laid out. Just thinking about completing it can cause stress.

Probably why it's best to break goals into small parts....less overwhelming.
