Are YOU Reading Self Help Books?

If anyone out there hasn't got into personal development books yet, then you must. Just pick one that is recommended to you or one you like the look of and read it all the way through. Some books you will like more than others and you'll relate to some authors more than others too. The exciting thing is you never know which ones they are! To be fair, with pretty much all the books in this niche, you will learn something from each one - some little nugget that can change your business, and you!

I most certainly do. I believe that if I hadn't discovered self-help authors and their
work I wouldn't have figured stuff that I have and my life would have taken
    completely different direction.

I also listen to audio and video programs and my favorite author is Brian Tracy.

As TopKat22 said - It's food for the mind.

      Thank you.

Yes, well said, these books are definately "brain food!" The first one I ever read was "The Magic of Thinking Big" and as cheesey as it sounds it really did change my life! It made such a difference to me when I learned how positive thinking works and how to develop confidence. I love reading these books now.

      • I'd recommend Jack Canfields '25 Success Principles'. I've got that book next to my bed, and have read through it at least 5 times in the last few years.

        Great stuff!

Yes, I completely agree with the value of self-help, motivational, personal development books (and audio programs). And I am a big fan of Brian Tracy as well!

I attribute my present level of personal achievement to self-help books I first started reading in the 80s.

Many, many moons ago I was involved in Amway. Although I didn't do well, the best thing about it was the positive motivation books, some of which I still have today.
Richard Carlson's "Don't Sweat The Small Stuff" series is absolutely brilliant.
Easy to read and yet so intelligent as well.

I have tons of others but he is my favourite.

Yes, I like to read self-help books because they remind you that you are not alone in your struggles and that with a little motivation, you can re-make your life to a better one. I got started with Leo Buscaglia's books and then the "Chicken Soup for the Soul" series.

I know the experience. I think that rather than simply reading the book from start to finish we should study it, make notes, underline key phrases ... basically absorb the book, internalize the concepts and then ... here is the hard part: Take what we have learned outside and consciously find opportunities and circumstances where we can practice the concepts.

MUCH easier said than done, I know. But if we aim for it, we will make progress towards it.

It's great to read all these self-improvement books.
They very often help us to confront our limiting factor and help us to unleash our potential to its fullest.

We are not perfect, and many times we do not take action because we are afraid of failure. Yet, these books cures all our "afraid" disease and once again we are brave enough to take action.

The book like "The Secrets" is life-changing. It changes our thoughts and attitude, and then our thoughts and attitude will create a whole new world for us. I used to limit myself from a lot of things because I only see my weaknesses. Now, after reading the book, I dare to pursue whatever I want in my life.

If you have read the book, you will agree with me that as long as you have faith, you will be able to achieve your dream one day =)

I try to avoid most self-help books. I've read enough from Tim Ferriss and a few others to know how to experiment on myself and find what works for me personally. This has been way more valuable and effective at helping me to achieve my goals than following someone else's "formula." I highly recommend self experimentation and documenting everything you do until you find what works. Also, checkout your local Quantified Self meetup to find people who can share their experiments and results.

I hardly get a few leisure hours in a month as leisure which I use to spend with my family. So I don't read any such books as I feel I can't implement them in practical life.

When I was a little kid (think 3) my parents would read Scriptures to me in sections of 3 verses at a time and tell me to 'apply it to my life'.

Because of that, every book I read comes across as a 'self help' book, or at least a book to be applied to my life. I stopped reading fiction a long time ago because of that because I don't know how to read without applying it on autopilot.

On the other hand, I'm great at reading and using self help books. ^ ^

I'm one of the fanatics of reading a self help books. They are really indeed very helpful and motivational. It gives a lot of insights that will improve our way on how to live our lives to the fullest but it also depends with our action or if we will apply what we have learned.
