Marketers With "Clear Eyes, Full Hearts - Can't Lose!"

Hey Warriors!

I absofreakinglootly LOVE watching Friday Night Lights on Netflix (I’m only on season 4) and this phrase, every time I hear them shout it, is just such a wonderful motto for all of us to live by – especially in Internet Marketing.

Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Can’t Lose!

If you remember this as you make your way into Internet Marketing, and up the ladder of success, you should do well AND be happy with what you accomplish.

Clear Eyes – you have to have this. So many of us don’t watch what we’re doing. We buy in a blur and don’t carefully check out two major things:

1. Who we’re buying from. (Such a biggie – there are scumbags out there and you aren’t even careful about avoiding them). You can do some digging before you fork over any money. If your gut tells you someone might not a.) be knowledgeable or b.) be above the board, find someone else to buy from. If you have to miss out on the next best thing since sliced bread, then oh well. Too bad.

2. What it is we’re buying. Do you know exactly what the product is? Have you considered if it’s something you want to do on a daily basis? Does it look ethical to you and even rewarding for you? After all, one of the biggest perks of working for yourself at home is being HAPPY.

Full Hearts – all that “passion” everyone’s talking about needing? Well why wouldn’t you want that in your business model? Nothing worse than being bored or uninspired when you’re building a business around a topic that doesn’t make you come alive.

Do you really just want to plop some keyword in a tool, have it tell you which phrases to target and then spin some readymade content and slap it up on a site? Yawn! There are those who will love that, but to me, that’s no leader. That’s a robot.

I don’t care if you’re in something like the acne niche – develop some sort of passion for it. Get human with it. Think of the emotions people with major acne problems will have when you help them clear up their face. Having passion doesn’t just satisfy you, it helps you be a better leader.

If you truly care about your target audience, you WILL seek out viable information to share with them. You WILL price it just right for your audience. You’ll naturally become a leading expert because the fact that you CARE will come across naturally.

Your niche should touch your heart. Doesn’t mean it has to make you cry – just fill you with good feelings. Help someone enjoy their golf game more and not feel like breaking a club or tossing it into the lake. Help someone keep their marriage together and transform their lives. Help someone train their dog and know that little pet is even more loved and enjoyed because the owners aren’t so frustrated anymore.

Make the world a better place with a ripple effect. Do the best you can do to fill your heart with passion and let it help others and you’ll be rewarded for that in more ways than just financially.

Can’t Lose – One thing I do know is that the truly successful people I know (and to me, success is measured in more ways than just dollars and cents – I’m talking true happiness) – never focus JUST on “how much money can XYZ make me in X amount of days?”

That’s not the way to develop a business.

Watch what you’re doing as you build your business. Be careful about who you buy from and learn from. Have clear eyes before you go into a JV with someone who might drag down your reputation.

Get to really know and love and care about your target audience. Your passion will guide you to better things; help you be your very best. No excuses. No blame.

    Great topic!

My personal fav regarding Internet marketing is also...

Play it forward - what goes around, comes around!

Never forget those who helped you when you were new, and never be hesitant to share your knowledge where it's appreciate and ideally, acted upon.

For me, this is really timely - I'm about to make a huuuuuge leap forward in me business, and have already touched base with folks who where there for me 'way back when. My success should help power their success. And ideally, vice versa as well!

This is good advice. The part about being passionate about your business really struck a chord. I'm still in the learning phase, and it seems like a lot of the advice is "pick a niche that's easy to monetize." That makes sense, of course, since one of the points is to make money. But if it's a niche you have no interest in and can't bring yourself to develop one, it doesn't seem like you'll be able to stick with it long enough to actually make money.

    Very well put Tiffany.

There's an Indian spiritual guru that I listen to (a real
guru) and he recommends something similar...

"Strive for what you care for. If it happens: good. If
it doesn't happen: good! At least you've enjoyed doing
it and you can enjoy striving for what you care for all
    over again."

Too many people strive for what they don't really care
for - which is failure in my book, no matter what the
    'results' are.

    Dedicated to mutual success,

    Shaun

I like that. Another one I like, which some Indians kind of adopted as their creed, is this:

      Wolf Creed

      "Respect the elders
      Teach the y
      oung
      Cooperate with the pack

      Play when you can
      Hunt when you must
      Rest in between

      Share your affections
      Voice your feelings
      Leave your mark"

This is how I try to live my life. If you think about it, it's a good creed to carry into your business as well.

A while back I decided that I am not going to watch any TV anymore. Why would I? If I have not accomplished everything that I want to then TV is just a waste of time. Why stare at a screen when I can be working, learning or spending time with my family.

The only 3 activities that I do is work, learn and spend time with my family. I put the bulk in working... I make sure and spend enough time with my family to where they feel loved but they see my obsession with success and they cheer me on and help in any way they can.

I don't write this to insult the thread started. It was a good thread that made some very valid points. My point of writing this was to instill a feeling of obsession from those who read wondering how they are going to go from the 99% that control 4% of the wealth over to the 1% that control 96% of the wealth.

The question is "How Bad Do You Want It?" Your everyday actions and mindstate determine the answer...

I've stopped watching TV too. Of course, the only thing I did watch was NCIS marathons and paying $80 per month to do that once a week? It wasn't worth it. Now all I pay for is 1 DVD at a time from Netflix.

I like this way much better. Too many people spend their whole week waiting for the next episode of American Idol or some reality TV show that should be labeled as cut-throat TV, because it's no different than soap operas.
I'm glad I care more about myself than filling my head full of that garbage.
      End of rant. LOL

Clear Eyes - Full Heart - Yep and my mind isn't full of garbage either.

Thank you for this post, Tiffany. I just printed it out, and will be keeping it close by on my desk. I know I will refer to it again and again throughout my IM journey. This road is not always a smooth one. We always have to stay alert and learn how to handle the bumps, curves and detours we encounter along the way.

What has really disappointed me lately are a few marketers that I thought were ethical in the past, not fulfilling their promises on bonuses when you purchase their product. Very disheartening, and I hope it doesn't become a trend. True, ethical people like yourself are a rare treat!

    Good sharing, Tiffany.

I absolutely agree with crafting content that's
for people instead of slapping on some low
    quality content.

    "That's no leader, that's a robot"

    Agreed!

Except in the case of learning and experimenting,
one needs to be able to craft his/her own
    content, imho.

So true! Thank you for saying what many of us need to hear - more than once. For example, passion plays a huge role in success. If we have no passion for what we are doing, it will eventually catch up with us that we are only going through the motions. People will see right through us and quickly turn away to find someone who does care about them.

      Great post,

Some of the winners prove that you don´t need very specialsed skills, big budget and big team to create a successful business and I think it´s the biggest take away. You need an open mind and drive to execute! In many cases that´s it.

      Congrats to all.

    Thanks Tiffany!

I haven't ditched TV altogether - but close.

Since I am an NFL, movie and documentary freak, I tune in occasionally. Most of the time, I use Netflix too. I won't roll over in bed to see reality TV or news programs.

Ironically, my first favorite quote that has never left me is:

"When you are watching TV, you are watching people make millions doing what they love to do."

This goes through my head almost anytime I turn on the tube. This applies to actors, pro sports athletes or anyone else that makes obscene amounts of money to entertain us all. I think I heard this from Zig Ziglar or Tony Robbins - I honestly don't remember.

The second comes from a much more obscure place:

"When you give up on your dreams - you die."

From the movie Flashdance - kind of profound from a "C" class movie, huh?
