To all newbies with a full time job. How do you cope doing this part time?

by anja98

Hi newbies with a full time job and doing this part time, do you have the same experience as me?

I'm holding a full time job and can only reach back home around 8pm. Typically, once I'm manage to get in front of my pc, I will take another 1-2 hours reading through blog posts and forums post to add my replies. Then I will concentrate on my content generation. The thing is, by 1am, I'll get very tired to carry on any further. Maximum I can last is until 2am.

Right now, I feel my progress is slow due to the limited time I can commit this part time. Because of this, I now value my weekend time more preciously.

Anyone having the same problem as me? How do you maximize your limited time? Any tips to share so that we can learn from one another?

Thanks,
Dan

    I make everything autopilot...

Used to make $500 a month before slapped by Panda, and procie power & bandwidth of my hosting account sucked by Baidu, Sogou, Soso and Yandex spider.
Only 1 week ago I discovered ob how to deal with them, and the fact that they were the cause of my frequent Hostgator suspensions.

The $500 was after my 3rd month of doing it with 4-5 sites consistently making money out of Adsense.

What I did was buying domain, install wordpress, install plugins and themes, put keywords in and sit down and watching.

Cut out blog posts and forum replies if they are not absolutely necessary to your business strategy. You just immediately added 5-10 hours to your online work week. Keep up that schedule until you can do IM full time. Sacrifices have to be made if you really want to build a business from the ground up.

I agree with Joe. Cut out the unproductive stuff that doesn't really move your business forward. Focus more on content creation.

Passive income does not appear out of thin air though. Right now, the OP needs to create a schedule that maximizes productivity and stick to it. Otherwise passive income is just a never ending pipe dream.

I think the magic word is "weekend". Make it your second, small work week and use it to its fullest. Once you break out of the 9-5 cycle of lameness you will have time to relax again. But don't burn yourself out completely, that'd be counterproductive as well.

    Good luck!

Thanks Joe and GT. I will swap the driving traffic through blog posts and forum replies with content creation. I agree with you guys that content creation should be more important than driving traffic at this point of time.

    Thanks to all your advises.

Today when I login to my affiliate centre, I was shocked!

I made my very FIRST sale since officially started my IM journey early this month. Why do I say official? Its because I have been lazing around and not taking real action for the past 2 years. This really comes at a very good time to boost my morale and motivation to stride further.

I want to share my joy with all of you.

I will definitely work harder to provide more quality content to help more people.

To all of you who are working hard, don't despair. Continue taking action to create quality content and do traffic generation. $$ will come to you automatically.

    To our success!

First, one has to make up his/her mind that the online pursuits will be worth the time invested. Then...

Getting started and efficiency. You have to get started. Setting lofty goals that will start later can make you feel good, but unless you actually start, they are worthless. Efficiency is necessary if you are holding down a full-time job and have limited time to devote to your internet pursuits. A plan to use your time more efficiently is necessary. Avoid duplicating your efforts. Use technology when it saves you time.

It's not that simple for many. Balancing work and other things in life is essential. You will burnout quickly if your entire day consists of a 9 to 5 job and then IM the rest of the day. In spurts it is ok; but all the time? You are just going to end up deflated and quit.

Maybe you can try changing your sleep schedule. After immediately coming back home, you are in a completely different and it can take some time to adjust and focus on your Internet work.

If you come home, go to sleep at say 8, wake up by 4, your mind will be fresh and you can get straight to work.

Now, you also have to keep in mind that it might take a few days to settle into this new sleep schedule so it might not feel right at first and you might get tired quickly, but after a few days you should be able to cope with it better.

I can vouch for a changed up sleep schedule. I went to the much more "extreme" edge of it though by following the Uberman sleep schedule. It is definitely not a permanent thing (I'll be off it at the end of the year) but 22 waking hours with the same amount of REM sleep is doing wonders for my productivity.

It's definitely not safe for your health though, people with these kind of sleep schedules are more likely to have cancer and it also increases your chance of alzheimers disease

I would highly recommend you get off that schedule ASAP so that you don't do any more damage to your personal health than you have already done

That's actually not a consistent thing. A lot who are on these sleep schedules nowadays are those who have to work multiple jobs just to survive. They aren't eating right, never exercise, and are constantly stressed. That is what leads to cancer and degenerative brain diseases.

I'm lucky. I am in a zero stress environment, financially stable, and have a consistent diet/exercise plan. I'm actually healthier now than I was before switching up my sleeping patterns. Plus, all of the extra time has made me more productive than ever.

I've had the same problem in the past. I'd get home late and try to dive straight into my IM work even though my body was yelling at me to go to sleep.

If your situation is anything like mine was, you'll find that even though you put in the hours late at night, your body is so tired you'll barely get any work done.

Maybe instead of staying up until 2am you should go to bed at 12am and wake up 2 hours earlier. That way your body will be refreshed and much more productive.

You'll still have time for your reading and forum posting before going to bed then when you wake up you can be 100% focused on content creation and hopefully get a great amount of work completed.

I have the luck of actually working from home by having my own business, but that doesn't mean that I work anything less than 80-100 hours a week. The best thing that you can do for yourself, is write a lot of content for the future. Meaning that, when your mind is fresh, or you're in the mood to write, you don't stop writing 1 or 2 blog posts, but you write 5 or 6. That being said, you post the 2 posts that you want, and save the additional posts for the future, for when you just really need to catch up on sleep.

Think about topics you want to write, and store them in your phone, or when you just need a mental break from work (five minute break to work on an article) and just just to keep your mind fresh and make it enjoyable, rather than work.

Remember that 80% of productive work comes from 20% of the total work you are doing. So concentrate your efforts on the essential tasks, that will most likely lead you to money the quickest. If you can concentrate on this 20% rather than the fluff, it will definitely help!

Make use of travel time to and from work if you have any. Commit 15 minutes of your lunch break if possible to IM. During these times you can read an article make a forum post or listen to something inspiring. Learn to sleep less.

Maybe don't rush to give up your full time job and look upon it as a way of helping you make your IM business work, because while you're getting paid you can then spend your spare time on your business. If you got the sack or gave up you would then have to seroiusly focus on your business but, as we all know, an IM business takes time to become established.

I'm in the same boat as you. I get back from work, and concentrate on content. I mix it with trying to only do 2 blog posts, 2 forums, maybe a couple of directories and so on a night. One tip though, I write down exactly what I want to achieve that night. That way I don't get distracted by Twitter/Facebook/blogs as I keep reminding myself what I wanted to achieve that night.

The "don't burn yourself up" is a good advice.
I sometimes got sick and not able to do anything hence losing time when I try to hard. The problem is that mind and body sometimes are not synchronized.
Meaning that the mind is still able to and want to work, but the body actually is getting tired.

    Best way is to enjoy.

Congrats on making that first sale. It can be nerve wracking waiting for that first one, but it's a good motivator when it does come.

One thing to be careful about is getting too tired or sloppy. I often think that by working longer I am getting more done, when really I am getting less efficient at my job.

Now I often save articles as drafts, and then edit them again later when my mind is fresh, so as to avoid silly typos and mistakes (that somehow made sense at 2am the night before).

Also, we are all impatient to get out of the rat race, but balance is the key to life - its a journey, so enjoy the path. Don't let yourself get too burnt out, and remember that you set these goals for yourself because you were seeking happiness and freedom, so be sure to re-evaluate your deadlines occasionally and don't beat yourself up if its taking longer than expected -- this is normal. Celebrate your successes and then get back to work making more of them.

I just had a long conversation with a friend yesterday who runs a very successful website (over 2 million hits a day), and it earns him decent money, but he is so burnt out he can't enjoy his success. He feels like he's sacrificed a lot of himself and his R&R time to get to where he is, and although he works from home and makes decent money, he thought he would be retired in the Bahamas drinking cocktails on a beach by now.

Until we are able to replace our day job with our passive income, we have to live by our schedule. Waking up 2 hours early gives the time (with adding up 2 hours we do with our current schedule) gives 4 hours a day, and 20 hours per work week. And in weekends, if we can spend 4 hours each, that totals to 28 hours per week. That's what I do. Definitely it is a sacrifice of our personal lifes too, but on the long run we can save a lot of time. (after we are able to quit our day job)

If you hopping on here to reply to posts, don't. U've already used this site as a learning tool. Now you need to do for you, and get your stuff done that needs done. Now transition from this site being a learning tool, to a reward. Get your content for the day done. Then post afterwards. You'll get a lot more done for yourself and your business and you won't feel so stressed. Your work will probably have a higher quality as well.

Personally, I wouldn't spend time on content creation unless that content is going to be part of your own product or additions to your funnel. Blogging for the sake of blogging is not safe anymore with Google trying to stamp out IMERS. If you don't have a good sales funnel, it is pointless getting traffic. Start with the product, optimize your funnel, then work on getting traffic.

There is nothing wrong with little and often. Take your time and relax into it.

People seem to think that they need to be successful tonight to have made it in this business! This is why the push-button trash still sells. Remember you are building a long-term business. That SHOULD take time. Outsource what you can, but don't panic if things are not done immediately. Set yourself a goal (realistic) and then chip away at it.

Remember too to build a list. Once you have a list, you can get sales any time you want!
