Why should I delete my facebook account?

Facebook seems waste of time. There's ton of useless stuff and I'm just frustrated to see people wasting their time. I'm looking for other reasons to justify my decision. What other reasons can be?

Because it'll enable you to spend more time with your real friends.
Because it'll give you more time to make money and/or pursue your passions.
Because it'll give you more time to create. Businesses, art...whatever, instead of consuming peoples mindless wall posts and status updates.
    I could think of hundreds.

I think there are even more reasons to leave facebook.

You are correct! But personally, i don't have to delete my FB account just because these reasons. It's up to the users on how to take responsibilities.

I had the same thought and kept mind for 3 reasons: 1. there's 4 or 5 people and 1 yearly event I'm part of that is really, really hard to contact and set up without Facebook. 2. There's a chick in Canada that I can't contact any other way. 3. It's a pretty good back up for the photos that I do have up there.

So as far as day to day life goes, I don't use my Facebook account for anything, to the point where it's like I don't have it, but I still keep it existing for those 3 reasons.

Personally, I am so tired of Facebook on so many levels.

If you absolutely just need to convince yourself to leave the site: then just compare the time you spend on there to the time you could be spending building a business. That was a strong motivating factor for me when I started actually building my business.

Of course, I'm back on it now that I have more time throughout the day to actually dedicate to social networking.

    My opinion is DONT delete it. Reason being it is used by over 800 million people worldwide, fastest growing network of all time and will be for years to come. If we think in business terms then we want the following;

    1) People
    2) Product
    3) Sales

Now if you have the Product, where do you get the people? FACEBOOK - The sales will come.

Stop thinking of Facebook as a Personal Social Tool and more of a Business Opportunity Tool

That's one way to look at it; but if he already hates just using it how can he be expected to love advertising on it? Would still be tedious and annoying to them.

Because they keep all your information, connections, messages on file forever and will later be used against you in one way or another to find you, persecute you and your family/friends, spy on you etc.

You sure? Because the closest I can seem to come to understanding it is that you are bashing homosexuals, which is rude not "fun".

I think it all boils down to personal preference. Personally, I love Facebook. It's where I earn my money. It's where I connect with my fellow marketers. I have also deactivated my account in the past but it's downright impossible for me to go through the day and my business without using Facebook.

Facebook allows you to terminate your account temporarily if you want...

if you do that for a period of time...see if you're more productive...and then you can delve into it for a longer period of time....or altogether....

Do you really have to delete it? I didn't login to my FB account for more than 6 months, and the last time I was there just to check out the facebook application development program.

You can just leave it there and sometime later you may want to get back to it I guess?

It is a 2-edge sword. you can use it to breakthrough and you might also get hurt yourself. The main point is to use it wisely.
Facebook allows you to connect with people; you can connect to potential partners, like minded people and achieve wonderful things.

Just avoid doing the things which you already think is waste of time and focus on what you want to achieve with FB. It should be okay that way.

People who use their personal facebook to promote their business comes of as spammers, and annoying to others. They get unsubscribed to and ignored.

Using Facebook to promote business on non-personal pages is different, but I am sure the OP is talking about his personal account.

Limit your Facebook to 5 minutes every day using a browser nanny. (Do the same for other life eaters too!) With your Facebook situation under control, it won't bother you as much, and you will quickly realize how little you are missing.

Imagine the thousands upon thousands of people that lollygags around on Facebook for hours everyday. You don't want to be one of them. I mean, you're already on the Internet, why not make some money and then go lollygag on the beach instead.

When I started off on Facebook, I just kept adding people - friends, relatives, colleagues, their connections whom I know... and then I got into that silly restaurant game and made a few millions... then I realized that people who post comments in there really didn't have anything much to do with their lives at all... I was about to throw away all that when I saw thing thing about Fanpages.... I became a developer, and after making a few fanpages and sales, I found it was not a bad deal after all...

Lets face it, it's an addiction... I found it difficult to pull myself out from commenting, so I put a self imposed ban on posting comments... I decided I won't join a conversation, but will Like if something was worth it... that helped me a lot to stay way from FB... try something like that, it should work... don't delete it though, it is a good place to keep in touch with friends, family and business...

If Facebook is killing your time as well as your natural habit then you better keep distance. Do not delete your account because you might need it in the future.

If this facebook thing gives you a lot of negativity about everything, then maybe you should delete it. Stop stressing yourself about something that isn't worth worrying about.

You can't delete your account even if you wanted to, only disable it. And everything you've ever posted gets stored for eternity. A tech investment company owned by the CIA also has a large stake in it. Reason enough not to have anything to do with fb if you ask me.
