Stream of Consciousness - Being True to Yourself
Yesterday I had an invitation to join another WSO based community and I had to think twice about it.
Normally I would have jumped at the opportunity but sometimes, it is necessary to ask whether joining would actually deliver value to the other members.
A while ago, I spoke of how a friend was aiming to connect with one person on a meaningful level each and every day.
Now while that does increase your network with stronger bonds, there is also no way that anyone could sustain that level of meaningful relationship with 365 new people each year and therefore, those meaningful relationships would very quickly become diluted with some people feeling ignored or forgotten.
My point in mentioning this is that by participating in each and every group that requests time or action, the overall value as contributors is diluted and sometimes, it is better to contribute with value in fewer places but with greater impact.
Now that doesn't mean that it is good to stifle expansion as this clearly is a key to personal development, but again, is more groups of the same people a good strategy or is it better to enter into new networks to continue that expansion.
All through life, we must face new challenges and reach out beyond our comfort zone to expand as individuals. Networks can also create comfort zones but in the spirit of development, we need to keep breaking out and breaking through.
