In life, as we know, everyone is a Sales Person.
We need to sell our ideas to someone else in
order to influence their decisions.
A child must sell an idea to their parents to get
a new toy or new sports kit,
A husband will sell the benefits of a new car and
a wife might sell the benefits of a family
holiday.
We all manage to sell our ideas to others when we
feel the need or a strong enough motivation,
Yet when it comes to selling our own products,
some people are unable to expend the same ability
to sell.
People will say they are not a sales person, they
will say they don't have the confidence or they
will say they simply don't like to sell but the
truth remains they are in sales, no matter what.
Looking at it in a slightly different light,
Sales people are influencers and buyers are the
influenced, so now, are you happy to be the
influenced or would you rather be an influencer?
I feel that I did make the transition a few
months back and the shift in mindset was
remarkable.
Not only did my sales grow, but I also found that
I wasn't tempted by every new and shiny object
anymore. You see, as your skill as an influencer
grows, your perchance to be influenced also
diminishes.
I accept that a shift in mindset isn't easy and
there are certain factors that will help make that
transition but this rant isn't the place to
discuss that.
Suffice to say, if you want to see your sales and
success grow, you need to be sure of your status
as a Sales Person and as an Influencer and the
rest is plain sailing: D

Your future deserves!

  • That's such an important point, Tony. It was having someone explain that to me years ago that made it possible for me to get over my hesitations about sales. We're all ALWAYS selling something, even if what we're selling is.... "I'm not good enough; I can't sell"! It's amazing to think about.

    Hey Tony,

I think people have the tendency to say they're not (good) sales persons because, first, sales people are seen as these annoying little guys running after you to get your wallet and, second, because selling in itself is seen as the sales pitch people get from the annoying little guys described above.

Now, you're totally right, and I had the same misperception till I understood that all we ever do in life is sell, but we have 1000 different names for it.

Your post also reminded me about this video of Joe Polish answering the question "Is Selling Evil?"

It´s funny that some people who get into an online business get in with the mindset that they don´t like selling.. They believe that selling is unreligious, or that selling is not right. Both mindsets are fatal to success.

You need to sell with the mindset that you give value for the money you receive. Almost every successful salesperson sells with the mindset of help, not need.

Yes, I agree with that. I'm so much more careful who I give my money too in the offline and online world.

Every interview and meeting with prospective clients or dating partners is just you pretty much selling yourself.

It amazes me how many people deny sales, oh yeah ? how did you meet your spouse ? how did you secure you current job?

      Yes, I agree.

      Everyone is born a salesman.

All of us are either selling attention, selling abilities, selling ideas or selling solutions.

Well yeah after reading the "Brandwashed" ... not brain washed hohoho -- tricks companies use to manipulate our minds and persuade us to buy I must say we really and I mean majority of us do not fall into that category. They even go back to our childhood and try to manipulate BEFORE we were even born ...

Why? because I guess selling is emotional and we buy based on emotions rather than logic. For me I am definitely not a classic sales person where I would say -- here is what it is - buy it or not? If not hey I go to somebody else hohoho ...

Yes everything in life seems like selling. Some are better at influencing others naturally. I don't think anyone should try and manipulate anyone just to make money. We just share our ideas with them and leave it up to them to 'sell' themselves.

I think most people involved in IM are unconsciously against selling and think that money is the route of all evil. Kind of ironic.

I've always thought job searching was very much like dating. As with sales, it's probably more important what you don't share then what you do. Early on in sales, I lost sales by talking too much!

People by from those they are familiar with. They purchase brand names that are recognized and respected. Why would they purchase something online from an average Joe?

They must know, like, and trust you. ...and they must see you as an expert. If you are not an expert, you have no right [in their eyes] recommending any gizmo to them.

It's what you do when no one is watching
that determines what you will be able to
    do when everyone is watching.
