What if you had everything, and then...

...you had a one-time accident causing permanent paralysis from the neck down?

For the rest of your life... you had to be washed, shaved, clothed, fed... by someone else.

How would you cope?

Here's a man who at 17 had that accident, he had every dream he'd ever known dashed. He was told he never be able to do anything, he'd never get better, never be able to father a child. Never.

This is Ron Heagy:

Never give up.

Wow..unbelievable..what an inspiration. If he can have an attitude like that after everything he's been through and do the things he done..it shows anybody can do anything if they put their mind to it and adjust their attitude. That's the biggest thing I think..adjust that attitude!

Remember that he developed his determination and positive attitude.

I suppose it's like a muscle and the more you exercise it the stronger it becomes. I imagine he had a lot of time to strengthen his mental muscles. I understand what you mean though. I'd be devastated if something like that happened to me. He's a remarkable man. Very inspiring story.

I cried at the part about the guy in the coma saying that he loved him. Thanks for posting it Paul. I love seeing stuff like this because it reminds me how many amazing people are out there. People much stronger than me. One of my favourite quotations is from Christopher Reeve which goes like this:

"I think a hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles."

If you think about it there's many unsung heroes of society. And thanks to leaders like Ron their winning their personal battles.
