I think content will always be the main element of any website - if its good then the backlinks will follow.

Content is definitely still the king. But if it is combined with a good marketing strategy, it will take your success to greater heights in shorter period of time. Obviously, the natural way to get the backlinks.

I believe it is solid, unique content that will make your site stand out from all the garbage on the net, clearly a little effort pays off in bigger ways in the long term

With the roll out of the Penguin updates, great content means now more than ever. Google and a large contingent of marketers have been saying this for years. Very few actually listened, believing SEO tricks were the way to go.

We are now seeing how great that worked out for them...

I wouldn't say content necessarily is king. (Some content is “crap” for less of a better word.)

Providing value is king. And many times that means lots of website content.

    Hi nmb,
The question is very relevant. Why do we say that content is the king? We must appreciate that knowledge comes from awareness. Unless you are aware of something, it is difficult for you to know it. Content makes you aware of certain information that will boost your knowledge. Content helps you to communicate your thought to the world.

Your website affords your prospective customers the opportunity to know you and what you have to offer. Through content, you will be in a position to market your site and also prove that you are to be trusted.

Without content, I believe that there is little or nothing to sell. It will be difficult to convince your prospective customers that you are to be trusted or that you have the knowledge. In such a situation, it may be difficult for you to be successful in your internet business.

From the above and more, I strongly say that content is the king. What do you say?

Yep. Being the source of high quality, informative information positions you as an industry expert in your chosen field. Your point is often overlooked in conversations about "content is king" but it is nonetheless a crucial aspect of success in any industry, online or not.

I agree with the above posters--SEO only goes so far. Content reigns supreme. Ever since the serpent tempted Eve with knowledge, the quest for it consumes us. Why else are we on this forum???
