What if you're in the wrong business (and don't even know it)?

This may not apply to everyone here, but I know it will to at least someone.

Have you ever considered the possibility that maybe you are in the wrong business?

A few months ago I recall buying several WSOs thinking, "Wow this method promises $$$, I'm gonna go do that!" And then I saw another, and yet another. Then I found myself pondering whether I should apply one method vs another.

I literally felt torn between the two. But then something interesting happened.

I spent some time really contemplating what I truly wanted, and I felt inspired to take a COMPLETELY unrelated action which led me to start doing what I love instead. It turned out that what I wanted had little to do with either of those two methods!

The entire time that I was torn between taking one action versus another, I was chasing money! Money literally became my master, and I became it's slave. I wasn't focusing on what I truly wanted. I was only focusing on how much money I could get, and this was coming from a sense of lack, which is not what I want to project when I do business with people.

As some of you know, I am coaching people online, and I absolutely love this work. Now that I am doing this, I have a greater sense of harmony in my life.

So if you're thinking of applying a particular method only to 'get rich' but the method doesn't really resonate with you, then could you let that go in favor of something that is far more rewarding for you?

Could you let go of depending on that particular method for your source of income? Or to be more precise, could you let go of making money your master? If you need a particular method for you to have the life you want, then you are saying your happiness rests upon the method. This is a way to make yourself a victim! And when the method 'fails' you wonder why life 'sucks'.

So what if letting go of the need to make money is necessary for you to start pursuing your dreams? And what if by doing what you absolutely love, you can contribute towards other people's lives and be richly rewarded for your efforts? What if giving/contributing is the key to having more money? (Remember, giving presupposes having, whereas needing presupposes lack.) By giving of yourself, your time and your energy you are directly contributing towards another person's life, which returns to you in the form of payment.

And what if the work that you think you want to do runs contrary to what will generate a truly rewarding income?

Maybe it is time to pursue your dreams instead.

Just a few thoughts to consider.

I like your way of thinking Jason. Very upbeat and motivating - and while I don't want to be a slave to money, it will continue to be part of my overall motivation. I'd be lying to myself if I didn't admit to that.

HOWEVER, that is not to say that I will do something I absolutely hate just to get the paycheck. The goal (at least for me) is to be able to say "I can't believe I get paid to do what I do". I think I may have quoted that in another post started by you. LOL. Not to be repetitive, but mentioning that here seems to make sense as well.

      Hi Elizabeth,

Thanks for sharing! You make a good point! I'd like to make a distinction but first, here's something to consider: What is it about money that is even more important than the money itself? (I.e. what does money ultimately allow you to experience beyond the material)

Since money is a means to an end, what is important about experiencing the 'end'?

The neat thing about this question is that it makes you get in touch with what really drives you, and if it's positive and something you are passionate about (at least to some degree), then that's something that works for you because it is an expression of your desires (which I believe are divinely inspired).

However, if it's to 'get out of debt', then that's not really prosperity. Like if you were to get out of hell, then you're technically still not in heaven. lol So that's the distinction I wanted to make.

Anyway, another cool benefit of that question is that it elicits your values which feels awesome. For example, having more money allows me to experience a greater sense of freedom in my life. So freedom is one of my highest values.

I had to physically feel that 'sense of freedom' inside of me, at least for a moment in order for me to answer it. It literally feels good, and the key is to feel that sense of freedom here and now, over and over.

So if your answer is something like "time with family" I HIGHLY recommend contemplating 'time with family' as much as you can in connection with your goal. Imagine you have your goal and you are spending time with family.

In my example, I would imagine my goal is complete and that I'm feeling the freedom of doing whatever I want.

And here's another fun mental exercise:

Imagine you are standing on a timeline. There are point A and point B. Point A is where you currently are, and point B is where you would like to be (i.e. your goal of "I can't believe I get paid for what I do").

Imagine looking at point B from point A. Notice how it feels to be at point A looking towards B. It probably feels a bit stressful, doesn't it? Like your mind will try to figure out how to get there, or it will think about the amount of time needed to make it happen, etc, and just thinking of that may generate stress.

However, what would happen if you imagined being at point B right now? Imagine you are standing in the future at point B looking back at point A. Notice how that feels when you feel the feeling of having it now. It certainly doesn't feel as stressful, right? It's because the mind is experiencing having the goal right this moment even though all you are doing is 'tricking' the mind.

The more you see yourself already at point B (and feeling the feelings of having it), the more you are influencing your mind to accept it as a new reality. After enough repetition (just like building muscle), the mind will accept point B as a powerful suggestion and inspirational ideas will pop up seemingly out of the blue, or 'lucky' coincidence will likely happen. Maxwell Maltz (in Psycho-Cybernetics) talks about how our minds are a goal striving mechanism, like a heat seeking missile and this process is a means to apply this idea.

I suspect this may not be new for you, but for some that are reading this, it may be exactly what they need to read to turn their goals into a reality.

The 'end' for me is financial security. Simple as that. A secured financial future for my family - mainly my children. I want them to be able to go to whatever college they choose (if that is their choice in path) and/or to experience the world without any burden that money can often create.

And of course this implies freedom as you mentioned. The freedom to live the life of my choosing.

The exercise you mentioned about envisioning yourself already living in "point B" and looking back at "point A" is something I try to do daily, but it is amazing how challenging that is. Much more than one would think. The key is to find some clarity in your head so that you can actually see yourself in that position.

My biggest struggle is "unclouding" that brain of mine - it is often polluted with so many thoughts and distractions. These obstacles can impede upon my ability to do what you say.

However, with that said, I have had many successes with it, and I have seen the benefits. So I agree with you whole heartedly on the power of being able to align your visions with your ultimate goals.

You definitely have a passion for coaching others - and it shows.

          That is beautiful

By giving your children the gift of going to college and/or experience the world without any burden, what does that allow you to feel?

You don't have to answer if you don't want to, but the question is designed to identify what it is you value most about doing that for your kids. Whatever word/phrase you come up with is a strong motivator

If you're open to it, follow along with this technique first before visualizing your goal:

I think you'll notice your mind will feel clearer and the visualization will be much easier to do

You definitely have a passion for coaching others - and it shows.
Thank you, I really appreciate it

Maybe we should take our chances, and pick one of good methods.
