How Do You Guard Your Motivation To Succeed?

We protect our homes, cars, bank accounts and other personal information. But it's surprising how many people neglect protecting their motivation.

Be careful, don't let circumstances, worry or even other people steal, compromise or dilute your motivation to achieve your goals.

It would be nice if some Warriors could share how they protect their motivation.

How do you keep other things or people from stealing or diluting their motivation to achieve their goals.

For example, one of my favorite exercises is reading the book of Proverbs.

I think If you're gonna do it, you're gonna do it--doesn't matter if you "share" it with other people.

  • To be honest, if you're so passionate (and perhaps obsessed) about something, I don't think motivation is necessary. There is a level where you do things subconsciously without actively making the decision to do it.
If you constantly need to motivate yourself to do something (i.e continuously force yourself to do it) then it's probably something you shouldn't do (and get someone else to).

But then again, this perception is rather relative. My point is that if you absolutely love doing something, then you don't really need motivation since you'll end up doing it anyway.
When you force or push yourself to do something, you are going against your flow and conflicting within yourself.

Just an opinion anyway. What do you guys think?

I agree with your point about loving or having a passion for what you do. But come on, in life do you love everything you do. That's not true with everyone.

For example, I love what I do. But I don't like having to do the accounting part.

Or I love running, but I don't always like getting up at 5 am on a cold winter morning, especially if I'm sore.

Motivation is very important, especially when faced with obstacles, challenges and fear, even if you're passionate.

Sometimes you have to motivate yourself to do the little things ... that's not "fun or sexy" so you can do the things you're passionate about. That's often where your motivation or lack there of will show.

OK, so you're looking for motivation techniques, huh?

This one has worked for me for over 20 years in my fitness life so I can safely say IT WORKS!

Not a lot of folks like to work out every time, and I'm no exception. So, how do I motivate myself to work out?

If something is worth doing, DO IT POORLY.

In other words, going in the gym anticipating a hard workout is very scary to me. And, that is enough to convince myself to skip my workout for another day when I'm psyched up.

No, no, no. That is NOT how you remain consistent with something.

I tell myself since I'm tired today, I am only going to do light weights and not push myself 'till failure. Now, it is easy to go to the gym knowing that it's going to be a "piece of cake" and at least I can say I did something today.

Funny thing is, 99% of the time I get a GREAT workout in. This is b/c I told myself I can do an easy workout today, but that get's me to the point where I say, "darn, I'm almost "there," I might as well go all the way.

You can apply this to Internet Marketing or anything in your life b/c small changes are easy to deal with, big ones triggers resistance.

I have more of my favorite motivation techniques on this blog if you're interested:

Sounds like me at my first Zumba class last week. I was dancing like Steve Martin in The Jerk, but I was proud that I did it and I plan to keep going!

It all depends on what is holding me back.

If it is just an unpleasant task I'm are avoiding, I put a time limit on how long I will do it. I can do almost anything if I have to do it for only 10 minutes.

If others start to tell me it won't work, I visualize the result I'm working toward with a heavy emphasis on how it feels to succeed.

      Two-page "opinionated" report?

Why not post it in the War Room for free?

Make a PDF out of it, and use it as a lead generation to build your list as a free WSO?

Use it as a lead magnet for JV Gift Giveaway in the 'Self-Help' niche.

If you like, I can review it for you, giving you a "testimonial"...let me know...

I try to distance myself from negative people. For some people it seems like a full-time
job to be negative, whine about everything, never do anything to improve their position
and spread negativity all around them.

For those that I come in contact with and am exposed to their negativity, I just forgive
them and move on, cause they don't know any better.

I'm a big fan of tools from Access Consciousness (founded by Gary Douglas). The theme is "All of Life Comes to Me With Joy, Ease and Glory".

Anytime I feel my motivation slipping I begin to ask questions like "What else is possible here?" or "What would it take for me to be empowered with more motivation than I could ever imagine?"

It works...suddenly I'll get the inspiration to take a particular action.

And I believe motivation comes from within - at least true motivation.

That inner-drive is really passion, where we act upon inspiration.

Motivation sounds very short-lived - an external that lasts long as the good feeling. What happens when you are faced with challenges externally? Your motivation goes down.

That's why, having a long-term passion from within is the key.

Yes, passion is the key to long term success. But the trick is keeping motivated until you find your passion. It takes most people time to find it ... some never do - before their motivation runs out.

    I agree with Michaelangelo,

If you look at it logically, it makes a lot of sense - Do you need motivation to watch your favourite TV show or to play Basketball or to watch a movie?

I think to look into motivation, you would need to not have the enthusiasm to want to do the task in the first place and that what you're really doing is looking for a remedy to cure it.

The best cure in this case is to simply find something 'you want to do'.

Maybe it isn't IM you're really passionate about. That may be a possibility. I know a lot of people come into this looking to make some money and an easy way out, but is it really what you want?

I would advise to do the following -

Instead of looking at IM as a whole. Look at what you're passionate about and use what you've learned to build a business around that. The beautiful thing about this is you'll often find marketing it will be something you'll end up doing naturally anyway as a passionate person will want to spread his/her message and engage in the community.

    Something to think about

That's a good point, but often it's not that cut and dry. To use your example many times you have to do something you don't like in order to have time to watch TV or a Movie first. That's where motivation comes into play in most cases.
