Stop shoulding yourself

Hi guys,

How often do you say, "I should do this" but you don't do it?

What if procrastination on a certain task could be an indication to not do what you're doing and to do something that is more in line with what feels right? I know it may seem crazy but consider this post:

In the old post, I mentioned how Joseph Murphy talks about this idea that the harder you work, the less you accomplish.

It may seem crazy but there have been times when this was true for me.

A few months ago I was stressing over implementing one marketing idea versus another. And I noticed both methods literally felt heavy for me. I knew I could implement them but something really felt off about doing them.

I kept saying to myself, "I should do at least one of them" but this heaviness was so strong I decided to intentionally not do it. I purposely 'procrastinated' and did something more enjoyable (like taking a walk or relaxing). What's interesting is that a completely unrelated idea flowed into my mind and it resulted in attracting clients. The idea literally felt like an 'aha' moment, so it was inspired action, and it didn't involve either of those two original marketing ideas!

So what if by thinking, "I should do this" you are actually blocking a far better solution?

PRACTICAL QUESTION:

Here's a powerful question to ask yourself throughout the day:

"What could I do to feel the best in this moment?"

Notice it doesn't say 'should'! The question presupposes you have choice!

The importance of feeling good is that when you feel awesome, your mind literally flows, and inspirational ideas will flow in. And sometimes feeling awesome may require intentionally 'procrastinating' by literally taking your mind off of work.

But as long as you're 'working hard' and stressing, you are not allowing possibly more creative solutions to come forth. Or as I mentioned earlier, if you're procrastinating, maybe it's an indication that you could be doing something more rewarding and joyful at the same time.

This doesn't mean to sit around and literally do nothing. It means to spend some time enjoying life now instead of delaying your joy by 'working hard' as if joy can only be experienced after you achieve a certain result. So this is more about living a balanced life than about intentionally procrastinating.

So, I highly encourage you to stop shoulding yourself and start enjoying life in this moment. If 'I should do x' doesn't feel too good, consider asking yourself what you could do in this moment to feel the best at least for a day and notice your overall mood as you do this.

You'll find that sooner or later inspired action feels SO much better than working hard.

In fact, when you get into that natural flow state, you will be far more productive and accomplish more than you would have by working hard.
