The Power Of Contribution

Been a member for a while now, but less and less, I'm seeing more folks in this forum wanting something for nothing, and less folks actually contributing their thoughts for something greater than themselves.

Just an observation.

Maybe it's because the thread title didn't have a snappy headline. Who knows. But I've seen big golden nuggets that people overlooked here because of that simple thought...or something else.

About 7 years ago at my first marketing seminar, I learned about the power of contribution. About the importance of taking action for what you want in life. I don't know what that means to you, but back then and today, it still means a great deal to me.

It means I can make the choice to give of myself and contribute, or I can be a taker.

It means I can make the choice to share what I know, or keep it hidden out of fear that someone might steal my idea.

It means that if giving to others makes me feel good because I helped someone, then I have chosen to do that on my own free will. Not because I want to look good to others.

It means helping someone and not expecting anything in return. Being non-attached to the outcome. Not basing your actions on what others might think about you.

It means getting over the fear of raising your hand in a group of people when you have a question. Raise your hand! Even if knowone else is raising theirs.

Sounds so simple doesn't it? Yet, so many base their decsisions on what others do first, and they wonder why they don't learn anything. These things speak of the character of a person, but they also speak of the success the universe gives back.

Back then at that seminar, I was expecting the big return. I was DOING my part in contributing and expecting a monitary reward for being put on staff full time.

I never got it. And I was angry because I worked hard at it. I understand now that I didn't understand. Do things becuase you enjoy doing them. CONTRIBUTE because it's truly what you want to do. If you have a question, then raise your hand.

Some might say "That's what true leaders do". And some might say "Well, that might be good for some people, but not for me".

What are you contributing to this forum? Or are you only concerned about you?

Namaste
