Almost 3 Weeks In - This Is Going to Work! [exercise and business goals]

Hey everyone,

Haven't noticed this section of the forum before.

So here's my little story. I'm doing pretty good business wise, but lately started losing focus and finding it really hard to move forward in business. Mostly because I got comfortable, I guess.

And here's what helped me overcome this "all is good so why try harder" mentality - running! I was lying in bed one morning, not too excited about getting up and getting to work - when it hit me - why not try and add some physical goals into my routine (such as running a 5km race or a marathon).

I signed up for a 5km race and started running 3/4 times a week. The race is in just a few days now and although I didn't give myself enough time to prepare properly - I believe that I'm ready! In fact, I'm already looking forward to training for a half marathon in September (3 months should be plenty to get ready).

I feel more focused, have way more energy, sleep much better and am a million times happier than I was just a few weeks ago! It's amazing how much having a physical goal can do to one's daily/business life. My business is moving forward faster than ever before, I even managed to get fully caught up with all the work (which I started putting off when I lost motivation). Things are great!

So yeah - if you're feeling stuck, demotivated, lazy or even super stressed - give running (or any other exercise, though I believe that running is a great way to re-organize thoughts) a shot.

edit: oh yeah, I listen to this when running... some people may laugh, but it works for me.

I sometimes feel the same. What would I do with money. I sometimes hangout with friends and have fun. But its always same the next day. I feel frustrated. There are two reason I guess that are responsible for this feeling.
    I don't like my nature of work/job.
    I don't have a girl friend.
    Don't know what to do.

Great share buddy. We often need to keep the awareness going in to get out of our comfort zone and get things done. Great video!

Physical exercise can reduce mental frustration and give relief. It also promotes good health. In time of physical exercise we can reorganize our thoughts as well. All of us know these, but neglect the exercise!!

Oh, my thread is alive! Woot!

So the race is on Sunday (19th). I'm hoping to complete 5km in under 25mins, wish me luck. Been working my ass off lately as well, hit record profit today and it's only 3PM here.

Anyone reading this thread and thinking "hey this is great, I should do this" - just do it already. First few days are the toughest, after that things start to fall into place and you'll never look back!

Running and physical exercise in general can really
have a positive effect on a person's general outlook
    and on their productivity.
One thing you've got to watch out for, though, is to
get "hooked" on the exercise bug and let it become
    addictive. Moderation is key here.

Good luck with your run today My bro did something similar 5 or 6 years ago and the training he did for the marathon turned into a habit which he's kept up every since. I find cycling really enjoyable but definitely want to start mixing in some running soon. Getting away from the PC and exercising makes the time you spend in front of computer much more productive.

Let us know how your run goes.

^^Yeah man it was fun! Couldn't do a good time, because there were over 10k runners total and it was all a big mess. Started somewhere in 8-9k and finished in the top 1k so I'm happy! Can't wait for the next event, woot!

Fantastic, congrats Great to hear it went well. That's crazy to think you overtook 7k+ people along the way! Makes me want to do a run; maybe just a short charity run to start with, then see how I feel.

I have recently come to the conclusion that lack of exercise is a major factor preventing me from taking my life to the next level. Fortunately, this is something I can change. Or rather, something I took action on today to begin changing.

I read a quote somewhere that eloquently states: "An active mind cannot fully exist in an inactive body". I think there is great wisdom in that statement! Exercise gets the internals moving and keeps the machine well-oiled, head to toe.

Recently, I have spent a good amount of time thumbing through the pages of the warrior forum and other IM-related sites. I'm starting to wrap my heard around the different avenues and techniques to make money online. Most importantly, I'm getting into the mindset that I can accomplish my goals!

I have also begun building up a photography business that has really started growing. I'm shooting paid gigs, location and studio, and providing a quality product. Website will be online soon.

My goal is to create a full-time salary and beyond by establishing passive income streams, and to supplement it with some active income in the form of photography. I will have the luxury of selecting projects to work on based solely on how well they resonate with me. I am absolutely fixated on utilizing passive income to purchase freedom from my corporate slave master (I work in IT). My days of working a 9-5 are limited. I have tunnel vision right now!

Every morning I wake up and thank <insert name of your God here> that all of my needs are provided for. I'm well-fed, clothed and sheltered. Following the expressions of gratitude, I begin envisioning what it will be like to wake up every morning with the freedom to decide what I want to do that day. This is such an inspiring and motivating feeling!

Back to the gratitude, I am also thankful that I am still physically capable of exercising. Today, I made a commitment to stop taking this privilege for granted. There are many people who are not as fortunate. I know this decision will have a meaningful impact on all areas of my life, including my IM goals. This will take me to the next level.

Your story is very inspiring. Glad to hear the run went well.

        All the best!
Great post and welcome to the forum!

Just a word of caution - don't get carried away reading ebooks and guides here. Choose one thing and focus on it until you start making money. That's when I started seeing success and it's much easier to build when you're already making good money online and understand the basic principles behind online sales, marketing and product creation/selection. All of those require first hand experience and cannot be taught.

And keep exercising - it really helps! Running has changed my life, I had my first >$1500 day yesterday and I don't even know how I managed to grow my biz so fast over the last few weeks. I'm on a roll.

        Thanks!

I can't even begin to describe how good it felt to finish that race in the top 1k. And I'm just getting started, my average pace was 5:57/km which is decent, but not great. Too many people at the start slowed me down a lot. The final 2.5km were under 5min/km. It was a good practice run tho!

Thanks for the advice and encouragement! Looking forward to my own >$1500 days.

As far as exercise is concerned, how important is weight lifting in comparison to cardio for overall health benefits (not just muscular)?

Focus on one thing and make it work. It's better to figure out one business properly than become average at many different things. You can always start more businesses later on, trust me.

Decide how much money you want to make, then double it and set your product/service prices accordingly. Don't be afraid to decline business. Too many people come across desperate these days, which is a HUGE mistake. Remember this - "I want your business, but I don't need your business".

I'd say 80% cardio and 20% weight lifting. I'm very slim and have incredibly fast metabolism (inherited). My new workout includes a 5km run, then 3 sets of 25 push ups, 2 sets of 20 pull ups and jumping rope for 2 mins. I used to lift weights for better posture (it did help - a lot), because I spend so much time sitting in front of a monitor it messes up my back sometimes. I've stopped lifting now and focus on the above workout 3x per week.

If I can keep this up I should be in a very good shape by end of summer. When I started about 1.5 months ago I could barely run a mile and maybe do 20 push ups. It's important to get plenty of rest, so exercise tue-thu-sat and rest on the other days. I go for a 30-45 min walk every morning when I'm resting.

    Congratulations on your race result!

I've been doing something very similar recently. Been training for a 10km race. Not sure when I'll do it though... having a fair bit of leg troubles recently, unfortunately

3 months of training between a 5km to half marathon? Wow. You're going to have to put in some work! I can't imagine improving that much in such a short amount of time!

I highly recommend Hal Higdon's training programs if you're looking for a set program to achieve your goal. I've been following his 10km one for a few weeks and loving it.

Good luck with it, though. Let us know how you progress.

Thanks and sorry to hear about your leg troubles (injury?). I keep reminding myself not to over exercise, I hear that beginner injuries are very common.

Well yea, 5km wasn't very difficult for me... I reckon I could run 10km right now, though probably pretty slow. Taking it easy on my legs for now and focusing more on cross training (see my other post). I'd love to do a couple official 10km runs in July/August, but there are no events like that here during those months (too hot).

      Good luck with your training!

I haven't posted here in a while, but things are going well. I'm still on track to running 21 km in September. Just did a practice 5 km race and my 5 km time right now is just under 23 minutes (HUGE improvement from just 25 days ago). Super excited!

I agree with everything you've written here baout focus and training. I find if I don't train I feel more tired. For example I work full time and if I don't cycle and get the train then when I get home I am de-motivated and generally lethargic which is not good for then sitting on the computer for a couple of hours. If I cycle I am energised and it's much easier to get on with what I have to do.
