If you think, "I should do this, but I don't want to"

If you are thinking, "I should do this, but I don't want to", then what you are really saying is:

"I don't feel happy if I do this, and I don't feel happy if I don't do this."

It's a Catch 22, and so you feel stuck because both options feel painful.

Here are few things you can do right now to change this:

1) What if you shifted your focus away from "should" to "choose"?

I'm suggesting that you let yourself be FREE to choose to do it or choose to NOT do it because as long as you think, "I should" you will feel stuck.

Be willing to literally not do it without regret. In other words, stop trying to derive your happiness from the outcome. Then choose to do or not do it.

2) It's not about "should I?" or "shouldn't I?" it's about being a blessing to others! Focus your attention on how you can serve others instead of 'shoulding' on yourself. In other words, stop being selfish and do something to serve your target audience. This is about fulfilling their needs, and making them happy. As you do this, you will be compensated. Be a contribution to your customers/clients/lists so that they would naturally want to buy from you.

3) If you really want to do it, then give yourself reasons to do it. Consider these questions:

How amazing would you feel if you got it done?

How committed are you towards success?

Are you willing to be true to your word by following through and getting it done?

What if serving your target audience will make you happy?
There is evidence that suggests when you focus on others, you feel happier:

Nice comments Jason, i like your point on shifting your focus. I also agree with Zaajaaz on the comment of instant gratification.
I think if you look at the battle of the conscious and subconscious minds you would see why many people 'try' and others succeed.
Generally when we decide to move on a path it is from our frontal lobe area of the brain and is a conscious decision. Our problem is that from childhood we have developed programming that is modeled on adults around us. This is found in the subconscious.
Our dilemma is that when we consciously make a decision to do something in life, we are faced with a conflicting view from our subconscious that will in most cases ultimately win the battle de to it being engrained in us.
In order to truly find that focus you are talking about, you will need to work towards both minds finding congruency.
