This newbie doesn't even know what SEO means, but already made his first sales!

About 2 months ago, a guy from a non-IM forum approached me to ask my advice on how to increase his website traffic. When I looked at his website, it’s poorly built and scattered. Hence we exchange emails where I send suggestions how he can improve his website, getting traffic, etc. So I told him to do SEO, Facebook and forum traffic, and adding some functionality plugins to make his website more viral. I also suggested him to build a list on autoresponder in addition of Feedburner, and he did it.

Last month, this guy even asked me stuff like :
“what is SEO?”,
"does internet marketing really exist?" , and
“how does affiliate marketing works?”

But in only within weeks, I’ve seen he’s progressed very fast – even though nothing fancy at my advices. This guy is very passionate in his niche (religious), I admit his blog is very inspirational and likable. He initially blogs for hobby, and already have contacts in social media scene. Hence, traffic is effortless.

Since Penguin update, we decided that he had to dilute the keyword density thing to avoid Google slap – but his website thrived from mostly social media traffic (Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, forums) and decent organic traffic. All he did is adding FB contacts and Twitter followers. And he got sign-ups already.

What most surprised me, only 2 days ago he emailed me back that he already got his first affiliate sale from about 50 people in his list

I really put my hat off for him, and I’m very proud of him too! I complimented him for the fact that a lot of new internet marketers had fallen into buying trap, buying this instant fix pills and that giant promise, failed and gave up.

But he’s so green newbie that he didn’t even know such thing yet (the hyped sales letters and giant promise stuff), and I bet until this far the term “guru” is still strange in his dictionary. But he’s such a quick action taker, quick learner, and not trapped in analysis paralysis. Now I also realized how important it is to have a mentor, someone to hand-holding you through the process.

My advices are very very modest (drive traffic, blogging, build list, care about your subscribers before you start selling) --- and the "sad" fact is as his mentor, I’m only a “newbie with experience” LOL!

And somehow I want to scream : “geez, he beats me on making first sales! It took me 2 years before I overcome the IM learning curve, pushing through fear and analysis paralysis, and make sales, but he did it faster!”. But the proud and joy are so overwhelming that I cannot feel envy toward him.

I hope this story will inspire someone. If the greenest newbie who didn't even know the SEO definition can make it, yes you can too.

Thanks for sharing you friends story, it was interesting. I think that they technical skills of understanding "IM" can be over rated for online success, there would be plenty of people selling stuff online whether it is with an eBay store, their own online store, a popular blog who would know less up about creating sales funnels, SEO etc than most of the newbies on this site but they are still highly successful.

Thanks so much for sharing this story! It really shows there is no need to rely on Google or even know what SEO is in order to have success online. Even though he is a newbie he is definitely on the right track.

Having been around the scene for quite some time it is kind of crazy how his approach to things is our Goal at this moment. Interacting with people and really sharing something of value makes the most sense. Instead of depending on Google and building a bunch of mini sites.

If your site is legit, popular and people love you for it then Google can deindex you and it would not matter.

Thanks again for sharing and congrats to him!
