How well do you sleep? How many hours/night? Do you think it is important?

Lack of sleep increases stroke risk

GET SOME SLEEP guys.

Caps intentional because I believe that a person who is fully rested is a person who is more successful (and according to the study above, healthier).

How many hours of sleep of you guys get on average?

I always try to get a full 8 hours - if not I try to nap during the day to make up the difference.

I get about 6-7 hours per day. Some really busy days I sleep 4-5 hours. I hear your message and I agree.

I sleep 4-6 hours a night. I try for 8 but sometimes there just isnt enough time.

But hey I still have my health so i gotta take advantage and take care of it at the same time.

Try to sneak in some zzzs or try even a 15 minute power nap during lunch hour (time yourself with a phone).

You will really start to see a difference in energy and alertness and 15 minutes does make a significant difference esp. if you are not getting the full 8 hours.

    10-12 hrs a day.

Going hard at the gym > more sleep.

I also eat quite a lot.

I can imagine. When you put your body through that much work, you are probably exhausted when you hit the bed.

But at least you are getting your 8 hours.

I sleep 4-5 hours a night. I have seen a ton of studies that argue both sides. Some say 7-8 hours sleep is required for ultimate health. Others say it is a total myth.

I personally think it comes down to what you believe. I have too many goals to sleep any more than 4-5 hours a night. Been doing for years and I am healthy and full of energy. Excited about my projects, my family, and life in general.

I DO believe that rest is important and understanding energy management is critical. Working in focused blocks of time (like 90 minutes) with completely detached-from-work breaks is more important than anything else.

I used to stay up until 2 or 3 am and then try to get up by 9 am. Doing this I couldn't think clear and my eyes would be so strained. Now I aim for regular 8 hours and in bed by 11pm. I also take sublingual melatonin 2.5 mg. It is a natural sleep aid as your body makes it naturally, but the older you get it makes less. It helps me relax and I fall asleep quickly and feel rested the next day.

Carson, sounds interesting, where do you get that?

Sleeping is an individual thing. There are those who claim to get by on as little as 2-3 hours of sleep. I happen to believe you need at least four hours, so your body can go through the normal dream cycle.

I also believe in naps. In programming myself to spend as much time working my blog and social marketing, I am doing well on five hours of sleep and two 20 minute naps. I believe naps are awesome.

One more thing about sleep. When I need to get a blog idea, or a particular idea for my blog...or any other creative endeavor, I think hard about my problem. Then, I sleep on it, or take a walk. My subconscious has solved multiple problems when I have done this.

It's what you do when no one is watching
that determines what you will be able to
    do when everyone is watching.

Regarding the walking, I have also done this; and it works. I think it may have something to do with your body focusing on walking and the visuals that your mind enters a meditative/creative state.

      Thanks David.

7-8 hours is optimal for me. Sleeping on your ideas or taking breaks to allow your subconscious figure out problems works well. I usually work exercise into my weekly regiment.

Well said Ricky. I could not imagine going on 4 hours of sleep, especially driving a car.

I like to think that everyone I entrust with my life (like pilots, etc) have had plenty of sleep.

I think sleep hours varies by age and your own mind and body wellness. If you're an adult 7 hours of sleep you must have.

Agreed at least 7 hours is about the 'recommended' healthy minimum. I just sleep about 6-7 hours on average, so it's kind of borderline. Most readings seem to say health risks increase sharply once it's less than 5 hours on a longer term.

Also the time that you sleep is another key factor. Shucks, tell that to myself, as it's 2.30am here as I'm typing this... :p
