Influential Movies; What Movies Motivated you?

I know people have been influenced by movies ever since they came out with the first one. Many of them have inspired me to do things. I want to know if there was any movie that effected your life decision's.

One movie got me to do something I never thought I do. Black Hawk Down got me to join the military at a very young age, but it's the movie that inspired me to do it. After seeing some rocky movies I got into boxing and then once I saw a Bruce Lee movie it got me into Martial Arts.

What movie changed your life?

I think I originally read the book in about 1983 and then bought a new copy a copy yeqars ago when the movie came out. Nick Nolte was an interesting choice as Socrates.... have to say honestly I have tried to grasp many of the concepts presented by Millman but have failed which according to the book means I have succeeded, LOL!!

Yes, that movie is brilliant. One of the most heartwarming movies I've ever soon.

      Other movies that inspire me-

      Scarface.
James Bond movies(I love his character).
      Limitless(the concept is badass).

        Got beat to "Limitless"! Dang!

We also can't go wrong with the Rocky series.
Also, 300 is inspirational to me as well.

Then there's Warrior, Shawshank Redemption, Billy Elliot, Nacho Libre, Chariots of Fire, Fight Club, and The Fighter. Just to name a few. I guess I watch too many movies. :p

I second that! Really great stuff. Will Smith was great, as always.

Here's a great scene from it:

But the whole story is great.

Best movie ever (for me anyway): Magnolia (if only for the fact it proofs that Tom Cruise can actually act)
Most inspirational movie ever: Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind...not even sure why, maybe because it just makes me feel that, in the end, love wins. (A message of many movies, but still...)

      mhhh... Hard to say...

      Inspirational movies stay with me for so long that I have a problem with extracting their influence in my life. I'd have to say that 'Magnolia' and 'Cast Away' are definitely in though. They both kinda have the same message in there but sent in very different ways;

Magnolia reaches a point wherein everything in the lives of the characters is so upside down that they reach some kind of balance.

In Cast Away it's the nothingness that leads to some sort of Zen-state.

Ya they did make a very good choice on who played Socrates. It was the exact image I had of him when I was reading the book. Dan Millman is great author. Enjoyed a lot of his books.

The Count of Monte Cristo (1954)
Le comte de Monte-Cristo (original title)
I like the French version, a great inspiration for me. I am not sure if available in English.

Edmond Dantes is falsely accused by those jealous of his good fortune, and is sentenced to spend the rest of his life in the notorious island prison, Chateau d'If. While imprisoned, he meets the Abbe Faria, a fellow prisoner whom everyone believes to be mad. The Abbe tells Edmond of a fantastic treasure hidden away on a tiny island, that only he knows the location of. After many years in prison, the old Abbe dies, and Edmond escapes disguised as the dead body. Now free, Edmond must find the treasure the Abbe told him of, so he can use the new-found wealth to exact revenge on those who have wronged him.

Think about it, if he did not go to prison, he would never become wealthy.

Tony Montana is my idol. I don't really condone the things he did to pursue his American Dream but I respect his drive to get to the top. He had excellent business sense and he took no crap from anyone. A true leader.

What a coincidence. I just posted an article on my blog last night on Batman Begins. You can click the URL on my signature, or here's the transcript:

Man (whispers to Bruce): They are going to fight you.

    Bruce: Again?

    Man: Until they kill you.

Bruce: Can they kill me before breakfast?

Big man: You are in hell, little man. And I am the devil.

Bruce: You are not the devil. You're practice.

    (Bruce fights with men)

    (Gunshots)

Guard (while carrying Bruce away): Solitary!

    Bruce: Why?

    Guard: For protection.

    Bruce: I don't need protection.

Guard: Protection for them (men groaning in pain).
