Not making money online? Well.....

the report I'm reading is spot on. Here's an important issue we can benefit from...

Do you ever catch yourself thinking something like this: If only...if only...you already had/achieved/finished (insert your desire here)...everything would be different?

The desire could be anything - being in great shape, having a successful business, amassing an eight figure net worth, etc. The only criteria is you believing your life would immediately be radically better.

We all have these thoughts from time to time. Heck, for many Founder Club members it was this sort of thinking that got them to start their own business. So, obviously it‟s not all bad. In fact, desire when correctly channeled is an extremely powerful, positive force.

However, I‟ve found if an entrepreneur is completely fixated on their outcome and the supposed fairy-tale life they‟ll have only after they‟ve achieved it... they generally don‟t reach their dreams or live happily ever after.

Here‟s why: When achieving the goal is the only thing that matters, the achieving- process gets discounted, reduced to a series of obstacles, annoyances to handle, to get what you really want and be where you want to be. The increased importance of the outcome ends up overshadowing the value you get during the achievement process.

For many entrepreneurs this false belief can easily cause (1) perfectionism, (2) procrastination, (3) paralysis, and (4) pessimism.

Because an entrepreneur‟s obsession with the destination leads to an inability to enjoy the journey. Which eventually zaps the entrepreneur‟s desire, passion and motivation, lowering the likelihood that the hard work necessary for business success will be done daily if at all.

There's a great book called The Millionaire Fastlane that talks about this very exact topic.

People are obsessed with events. Most poor people think like. However, people who are rich (self-made) don't think like this.

    Its all about the process.

If you look at someone fat, it wasn't something that just happen or just the way they've always been. Its the lifetime/years of eating crap (the process) that resulted in the "event" of them being fat.

Likewise, someone is poor because of every single decision they've made throughout life has made them poor. Its their PROCESS.

That's why the people that fail the most in internet marketing are focused on the EVENT, the GET RICH QUICK dream.

They are not focused on the process... creating or promoting someone else's offer, developing a good platform (blog/website/etc), and figuring out how to drive traffic. Instead, they drool over the event of having passive income stream of $100,000s of dollars.

I totally agree - if you always focus on the material outcome you can miss the thrill of the ride - that said, I think that focus is important, but it has to be focus on the product you are working on at the time coupled with a deep-seated BELIEF in what you are doing and love of the process - it's gotta feel like you're not working else it won't work.

It's like looking at a million dollars. That's a lot of money to most of us. But, once we achieve that million it doesn't feel like a whole lot of money anymore, and we just want more. The goal has been achieved, and now the bar has been raised.

It's all relative. To one person, a million dollars may look like a lot of money. To another, it may be a small amount.

Than we devalue the money as itself, and we really undestand that it's nothing but just paper. The value is the power of possibly getting anything we want, there the feelings and emotions come.
Like somebody on warrior's quoted "Some people are so poor, that the only thing they have is money"

      Greate quote by the way.

The first two are key for me.

    (1) Every mistake triggers my OCD, but when I push ahead, it works out. If it goes wrong it teaches you so much. You really can't go wrong because either way it works out: You succeed or you learn how to.

    (2) Instead of confronting the issue, I run away...Posting here, I'm running right now.

    (3) Just like procrastination. My paralysis is avoiding the issue.

    (4) Another one that starts 2 & 3. If you focus on the negative it happens. Your negative mind makes it happen. You end up thinking the positives are just a fluke. I also get scared when things go too well. It feels too good to be true, like something bad will happen to even things out.

Thanks for posting. I'm keeping these points for future reference.

another interesting point relates to limitations.

without limitations I can feel like I have all the time in the world to get the job done. In reality I spend parts of my day opening emails, surfing the net, talking on the phone - basically, not getting my essential jobs done.

Once i create a limitation - time limitation in this example I am more focused.

Instead of working long hours and done a whole bunch of different things I can limit work to 9-4pm strict. Now I only have a certain amount of hours to get my tasks done, so I focus on what needs doing and get it done.

Now I limit my work, get more done and have more free time too. Hard to do but critical to the success of my business.

Limitations can be applied to anything. How about the amount of projects I have to get done? If I have 4 on the go at once I only do little bits of each and my progress is not so good - a bit like digging lot so shallow holes instead of one deep one.

Focus is a word that crops up on WF a lot and I see why.

  • Oh so very true... Gotta remember to enjoy the journey. Besides being a workaholic I feel pretty good about my life. It has its moments, but I am at where I want to be. It is very satisfying.

I still always want more though. Found this beautiful condo I want to buy next year... It is nice to have dreams that excite you; just don't get hung up on results. If I was hung up on achieving my goals I would be miserable...
