Self Improvement and Money Books Thread

I decided to open this thread to review books that I'm reading that are related to self improvement or making money.

Today I'll review the 50th Law by Robert Greene and 50 Cent

The 50th law is a collaboration between the rapper Curtis Jackson (known as 50 cent) and Robert Greene. Robert Greene based this book of Curtis' life experiences along with his own historical research into power and success (which he covers in the book 48 laws of power). The book provides a very applicable and modern guide to rising to power in our time. In the book, we learn from Curtis' troubled childhood in the ghetto and his teenage years as a hustler. He eventually made it out by becoming a rapper and making his entrance into the music world. During each step of his arduous journey he had to use sharp street smarts to even survive. He was shot at with 9 bullets, which he narrowly somehow survived.

Curtis' main philosophy was fearlessness, which is a core concept of the book. Because of the brutal conditions he came from, 50 cent has no fear of death. The fact that he narrowly escaped death by bullets meant that he makes the most of his life. He's a risk taker, and a hustler. The book also focuses on psychology and understanding that other people's intentions can often conflict with yours. The 50th Law also focuses on historical examples to drive home many points. The whole book goes through the exact mindset 50 has, which is the mindset of a hustler who's not afraid of anything. I read this book in one day because of how enjoyable it was. It's also incredibly motivating. I prefer this to self help books because this is far more real, far more visceral, and much more interesting than most mainstream self help books. I've experienced a massive increase in productivity ever since reading this book.

    Pitch Anything by Oren Klaff

This book is required reading for anyone who is involved in any sort of business deals.

Traditional selling techniques have been high pressure. They also presumed the seller was "lower value" and had to supplicate to the buyer.

The author also demonstrates that most of are horrible at pitching because of the fact that people's crocodile brain often cuts out most of the information that we send their way. To make pitching effective we have to learn how to get past the crocodile brain and deliver a powerful message.

Oren Klaff takes Pickup theory, and applies it to business to create a new form of selling and pitching built on frame control. Its very simple but extremely powerful, and its something that I've noticed naturals at sales doing.

This is a must buy in my opinion. Read at at least 2 times.

  • How To Win Friends And Influence People - Dale Carnegie

This is pretty much the handbook on people skills. I read sections of this book over and over again like a manual. Yes, people all recommend the Think and Grow Rich stuff and all the other get rich personal development stuff, which is nothing wrong.
But seriously, this book has actual practical skills that not only as a leader, but as a human being, must read.

The book itself has chapters in bite-sized chunks so you can read snippets of it at a time. Read about one skill, practice it, then go to the next. Pretty simple and easy to go through.

I've basically given some people advice from this book and a lot of people got dramatic results just by me quoting stuff in here.
