If you ask most people what is their one major objective in life, they would probably give you a vague answer, such as, "I want to be successful, be happy, make a good living," and that is it. They are all wishes and none of them are clear goals.

Goals must be SMART
S - Specific
M - Measurable
A - Achievable
R - Realistic
T - Time Bound

So make your goal SMART before you Target it.

I have trouble with "Time Bound." Sometimes life is just too fluid to meet or even make deadlines, especially when you are self employed. Any tips for someone who struggles with deadlines like me?

You can break the goals down into smaller pieces that require much less time to complete, making it far more likely that you hit them. I work in no more than one hour slots - what can i do in one hour that actually moves me towards my goal. Being this specific also helps avoid procrastination and distractions (important when you have a family around you when you are working, like me).

Hitting goals is important form a mindset perspective - if you keep missing goals you get demoralized, if you keep hitting goals you confidence increases (think Tony Robbins and the Belief Cycle).

Of course you still need to keep your eye on the overall goal and keep moving towards it with each smaller goal you set for yourself.

That's how i handle goal setting at least, and it works pretty well for me.

Set your mindset to help others & success will come automatically. Also learn to accept negative results.

    I agree with specific goals.
And set goals so important of works.
Here are my experience to achieve goals:
+ Need answer question: Why you need achieve your goals?
+ Take action: Do things that you need to do forward you achieve goals.
+ Then never give up in your process
+ Ask other people doing same things that get results.

With a plan, your efforts to get knowledge, experience to do things need done in your process. You will achieve your goals.

Very encouraging one and also very realistic too. If any person can follow those steps he must b successful in his life.

I recommend reading The Charge. Brendan kinda takes a charge at SMART goals.

Are smart goals too reasonable? Not high enough? Clearly it has some value though.

Thats a good thing to have SMART goals but I sometimes fall in dilemma to choose the right thing for me. And time bound is also a big factor if I set higher land mark to achieve.
