living for the future - forgeting about today?

This is my confession...

Lately I've noticed it... although my life has changed ENORMOUSLY over the last 2 years that (in a positive way) that I have a hard time believeing it, there's something that has been bothering me along the way...

And that's this feeling that I live in the future. And it's fun to live in the future, for a while, but it's not fun once it's a routine. Once everything you do (today) is planned in a way so tomorrow could be better, it starts to get you down...

I can't enjoy "today" anymore. I also don't feel good accomplishing my goals anymore, I'm not sure, but I think it's somehow related.

Has anyone had this feeling...?

Cheers,
Zannix

as someone who lives just outside of now ..i understand your plight..

the easist way to live in the now is to have a decent idea of what the future will hold.. but if you plan each day and fail to enjoy the path your own.. the future will always be the future ..and there is no now for you to enjoy.. now becomes that annoying point you have to deal with until you get to next ..

is there anything you can do to better enjoy right now and stay in the moment you are in .. I am rather bad at it currently.. but i have to jump in and have a lot better nows ..

    Yes!!!

I've been 'living in the future' these last couple years and honestly I think it has held me back in so many ways. First of all don't let your idea of the future make you comfortable. For example don't think "I'll be making a lot of money in a couple months so I can relax and not have to worry so much".

That will give you a cushion and make you work less hard. Instead you need to get scarred. You need to make yourself give it your all NOW.

Also living in the future has greatly reduced the quality of my relationships. I always think things will be better later once my business has taken off. So I put less effort into my relationships now with the idea that in the future I can focus more on having fun and having quality relationships.

But all that does is make you unhappy and it limits your progress with your business. So it's like a trap. Recognizing it is a very important step.

Yeah! I even tried living in the future for how many times.
It's quite funny thinking for the things that you are going to do in the future.

I think it's this self development thing that's responsible, or at least the way it has affected me. While helping me in so many other ways, it has crippled me in the ability to truly enjoy today, without subconscious worries about what yet needs to be done and how I could improve myself even more.

You know - constant hunger, be grateful but not satisfied type of thing?

For one day in my life now I want to be satisfied and set my ambitions to zero. Why is this so hard after the mindshift I've made? It used to be so easy...

Best post I read long time! You're telling a cool "futuristic feel-good story" about how you live in the future and how your life has has been better the last two years! Amazing story and great responses all the way down. Just wishing I could write like that...
    Stay cool champ!

the problem comes with the big goals and stuff they tell you to set.. so no matter how much better you are today than a year ago.. you have to set bigger goals for next year.. and feel bad about where you are today ..

that is the success mindet you get from motivational guru's and the guys who write the books .. can't really enjoy now .. gotta enjoy the lust for bigger and more..

For me live your life to the fullest and do not think about tomorrow. And you will definitely enjoy your present.

I love Brendon Burchard's take on this. Complete the sentence 'The purpose of my life is to...'. If it's to make a million, you miss the point. If it's to be happy, you are getting there.

I have been one to live in the future. I worry about doing things that will improve my life in the future and sometimes it can be overwhelming. I would try changing your routine. A change every now and then is never a bad thing. Try doing some crazy and maybe even spontaneous! I bet you will feel better afterwards!

I was to a place some 10 years ago, studying, and always had the feeling that I am waiting for the years to pass...and then had a job offer., which I took..still feeling the same...and after 10 years now I realized I did not enjoy my life as I should, I did not do the things I should have done, explore the country, and now that I am away, I regrett it. It could be very ironic now to go there holidays to discover the country..wich I am seriously thinking!!! This is how I lost there 10 years...feeling like I was in a waiting room!!!

One should always appreciate to savor the moment, life is too short to expect for the good times to come. I always try to live the moment, cause everything else is uncertain.

Plan for the future, and live today is more likely to be your goal now. You need to live to day and live it full so that your future will always what you want it to be. If you keep on living for the future with out living today how would you think on getting into that future if right now does not matter to you? right?

Good thing you already realized this early

    Hi there,

Yesterday is just a memory (in your mind only) and tomorrow hasn't happened yet, so why spend your time in either?

    ...so live for the present!

    Llwyddiant!
