Building a Business: Stressful or Exciting?

Think carefully and answer honestly. Do you find the time you spend trying to start or grow a business to be more enjoyable or stressful?

Are you able to let things go easily and move on quickly when something fails, or do you hold onto things and beat yourself up when something doesn't work out as planned?

The answers you give may provide some insight into your current mindset, and may help you realize whether you truly want to own your own business.

Sometimes it has been enjoyable and sometimes it has been stressful. When starting in a new business you need to educate yourself; Everything is a learning curve, which comes around all types of moods. Let me give you some examples:

    - First Wordpress Site - Wuhuu, how awesome! (happy)
    - Accepted in affiliate Networks - Yes, money money. (very happy)
    - SEO - Ohh my god it's boring and how much work every day - ZzzZzzz (tired and dissapointed)
    - Almost no traffic - No conversions - F*** this IM S*** (angry)
    - Improvement of site - More traffic - Conversions - Wow I can live by this. (very happy)
    - Dead period - Boring I need to start in another IM subniche... (bored and dissapointed)

With this I just wanted to show you some of my reactions, which I think most people recognize

Most of the time has been exiting and inspiring (80%), when rest has been either good or very bad (20%). But as I see it it's important to fail sometimes. Because I have learned by all my mistakes. And most of them first time :p

I have written some of my mistakes in this thread:

Most times I let things go to easily. It was totally information overload. I bought so many different courses; Tried them all for a short time, just to find out it was not what I expected. Then I just invested in the next shiny object in my mailbox..
Now I only work with few different things and I'm not buying all those promising products. Instead I have invested in a few things, which include a high ticket coaching. I just wish I did that earlier...

This thread is, like most threads in this section, good. Actually I think it's very good because it makes your brain reflect all the moves you have done in your business. You will think about everything you did was the worth the effort. Hopefully you can say: "YES!"

I think it's both..You cannot eliminate stress in building a your business but if you are persistent you will also find it exciting once get to figure out what to do on how to solve the problems that you encounter in building your business... Just believe that you can do everything no matter what obstacles may come along the way.

I'd say both, more exciting than stressful but I love being able to reinvent my business and easily pivot to a new direction. I get quite bored with projects sometimes, as mentioned above so it's nice to reinvigorate my love for IM by starting new ventures. I don't think I could live any other way.

The stress comes from "not Knowing." You don't know what you're doing when you first start, and the fear and uncertainty are bound to cause stress. Even when you get your first sale, you're excited. But the excitement is temporary because at some point you realize that the one sale is not going to give you the lifestyle you are looking for. Moreover, you probably didn't even know what you did to generate the sale, so you don't know how to replicate it. "Not Knowing" is where the stress comes from.

If you want to minimize stress, I recommend getting a well-established mentor.

Definitely both. SEO can be a slow grind waiting for results. All other forms of fast achieved traffic can be nerve wrecking wondering how well my investment will convert.

Starting out was really difficult because i had to self teach myself everything. I didn't trust high priced mentors, so what else could i do? Now that things are rolling along it's rather enjoyable to start new projects and looks at new things coming out. I don't invest in a lot of the new stuff since my old archaic methods still work

Staying above the curve of my competitors has been a slight challenge but its a good challenge. It forces me to evolve and adapt rather than to sit content knowing I'm safe.

It's a mixture of both. Your Business is just like your child. As raising a child is stressful and exciting at the same time, same is the case with business.

I can say both but excitement must above on it as long as you love the business you desire.

It's both, and sometimes both at the same time. You have to try and even them out. Don't get overexcited by a success and at the same token a failure isn't nearly as bad as it first seems. One door closes and another opens and all that.

Both! It is exciting, challenging but can also cause you to want to tug your hair out at times ;-)

I agree with all of the posts that building a business involves both stress and excitement.

I came to the realization with a previous business of mine that it is crucial to realize when stress is getting to be too much. With that business I reached a point where I realized that the stress being caused from it wasn't worth the money I was receiving, and I simply had to let it go.

I vowed after that point to only pursue building businesses that were enjoyable and rewarding, because otherwise they just wouldn't be sustainable for me.

Sure there is stress with anything that requires work, but it is only our reactions to the stress that can be controlled. When I genuinely enjoy what I am doing I am much more easily able to process and resolve any stressful situations that come my way.
