Would You Like To Develop An Iron Will?

Hello Mind Warriors.

Thought I'd pass on this extraordinary book to you because this place is my favourite part of the forum. So many success-minded, positive-thinking, ambitious and successful people all sharing information and helping each other. What more could a forum user ask for?

I first came across this book when I was in a very dark place. I can't remember exactly what was happening in my life but I was in tears that day because I wasn't having much success--even though I'd been working hard and was determined. (I used to cry a lot back then because I was dealing with a lot of problems.)

Then I received this book from another Warrior--I believe his name was John Colanzi and used to post here--and it was like a God-send. The exact thing that I needed to read at the time. It was almost spooky how much this book resonated with me. Ever had an experience where something came into your life at exactly the right moment? It completely lifted my spirits and made me hopeful again. I had a newfound optimism and was ready to take on the World again.

*Chuckle* You'd be right in thinking that this is one of my favourite books. And now I'm passing it on to you.

Titled "An Iron Will" this book was authored by Orison Swett Marden. You probably didn't know this but Orison was one of the first personal development, positive thinking, and new thought authors. He founded "Success Magazine"--one of the first of its kind--in 1897 and "An Iron Will" was first published 30 years before "Think And Grow Rich."

And just to whet your appetite here are some of my favourite quotations from the book:
"The education of the will is the object of our existence," says Emerson. Nor is this putting it too strongly if we take into account the human will in its relations to the divine.

There are three kinds of people in the World. The Wills. The Won'ts. And the Can'ts. The first accomplish everything. The second oppose everything. And the third fail in everything.

"The man that exercises his will," says an English essayist, "makes it a stronger and more effective force in proportion to the extent to which such exercise is intelligently and perseveringly maintained."

There are no two works in the English language which stand out in bolder relief, like kings upon a checker board, to so great an extent as the worlds "I will." There is strength, depth and solidity, decision, confidence and power, determination, vigour and individuality, in the round, ringing tone which characterizes its delivery.

The positive man, the decided man, is a power in the World, and stands for something; you can measure him and estimate the work that his energy will accomplish.

It is the man with a positive nature, the man who believes that he is equal to the emergency, who believes he can do anything he attempts, who wins the confidence of his fellow man. He is beloved because he is brave and self sufficient.

The World turns aside to let any man pass who knows wither he is going.

The mind has undoubted power to preserve and sustain physical youth and beauty, to keep the body strong and healthy, to renew life, and to preserve it from decay, many years longer than it does now.

The more difficulties one has to encounter, within and without, the more significant and the higher in inspiration his life will be."--Horace Bushnell

Persistency of purpose is a power. It creates confidence in others. Everybody believes in the determined man. When he undertakes anything his battle is half won, because not only he himself, but everyone who knows him, believes that he will accomplish whatever he sets out to do.

Opposing circumstances create strength. Opposition gives us great power of resistance. To overcome one barrier gives us great ability to overcome the next.

Success is not measured by what a man accomplishes, but by the opposition he has encountered, and the courage with which he has maintained the struggle against overwhelming odds. Not the distance we have run, but the obstacles we have overcome, the disadvantages under which we have made the race, will decide prizes.
