The Power of Need as Motivation

A friend of mine and I were talking about motivation, and he related a short story.

A motivational speaker at one of the seminars he attended talked of a person who wanted to become successful in his business. So he went to a guru to find out what was required.

The guru said to meet him at the beach the next morning and he would make everything clear.

The next morning, he went there to meet the guru, and the guru told the man to follow him as he walked out into the water.

This seemed strange but the man did as he was told. As the water started getting deeper and he was almost up to his neck, the guru put his hand on this guys head and pushed and held him under water.

At first the guy trusted the guru and was trying to figure out the lesson. But as he started to run out of air, panic set in and he started to fight the guru to get his head above water.

As he was about to black out from a lack of oxygen, the guru pulled him up and took him ashore.

The guy was ticked at this point, and asked him where the lesson was in trying to drown him.

The guru stated, when you have the same passion for your business you had when you were trying to get air to breath, you will be successful.

Thanks for remainding me of this. I once saw a video about this. I agree with this, when one needs something badly, they find way to succeed.

Yes agreed, you must have a burning desire to achieve something then you will succeed. You must know the "WHY?" in your life.

A burning desire absolutely! And persistence. Pick yourself up if you fall, assess, keep moving forward.

I agree with you on that one.

A burning desire to see results no matter how many mistakes we make along the way.

WIthout a burning desire to succeed would be very difficult to achieve our dreams.

We must believe in our dreams and in our abilities to succeed.

      All the best.

"The guru stated, when you have the same passion for your business you had when you were trying to get air to breath, you will be successful."

    How true!
This last statement sums up the idea. If only our passion is just like an indispensable resource in our life like air, water and food, in which without them we will die.

This also resonated with me. Anything I've been able to accomplish in life has always been a result of passion.

And that passion also gave me the ability to say NO to things that I wasn't truly passionate about. But this took a long time to learn, and I'm still having trouble applying the word NO .

I've heard the same thing mentioned time and time again by successful people: like what you do, or find it a passion, and success will follow.

I believe that is true to a point. There can be people who are passionate about helping others through charity or organizing a charity. If there are people like this that truly care about helping others in less fortunate situations, then why is there still so much trouble in the world and even locally within your community?

I think that the problem doesn't lie with finding people with passion, it's in making certain that your goal matches up with your passion. If your passion is to help others, is it better than following a passion to *eliminate* that problem plaguing others?

Think about the challenge from a different viewpoint. You may uncover a whole new way of looking at the method and discover a means that no one else has.

Motivation comes from outside. Inspiration is much stronger, when all your values, goals and actions are alligned... So passion goes hand in hand with that, otherwise you will give up when something fails..
