Feedback and how it changes you...

Accepting feedback is one of the toughest things for many entrepreneurs.

But some of the most successful -- and independent -- people on earth learned big lessons through a word of advice or a criticism or even a failure or rejection.

So what opened YOUR eyes?

Be receptive to criticisms. Feed backs should not break our dream to attain our goal, instead it must be a tool that we need to strive more to become the best of what we can.

Well, I think we all get "constructive" criticism throughout our lives. Honest comments from well-intended friends is not only welcome but one of an adult's most valuable learning tools.

What opened my eyes is... when my best friend from childhood married a man who uses the truth to hurt any- and every-one. Thinks it's funny. All sorts of uncalled-for "truths" get flung from this man's mouth. And, after years of marriage, my now-ex-best-friend has picked up this nasty trait. For example, at my wedding she told me, as a means of greeting, "You've tried so many times to get married, I just couldn't miss this, now you finally succeeded." What the heck kind of comment is that! We've scarcely spoken since, and that was many years ago. Such feedback has no good purpose whatsoever. It's intended purely to hurt.

So that's how I discovered that feedback needs to be done gently. I like the sandwich technique - an honest compliment, the criticism, then another honest compliment.

      Hope this helps,

It's helpful to remember a person criticizing merely to put you down is doing it out of a necessity to make themselves feel superior, and thus is coming from a place of insecurity. Realizing this allows you to see how worthless their criticism is

On the other hand, however, not being able to accept honest and constructive criticism is a sign of insecurity on your own part, as if you were insisting you were perfect and a person's criticism has burst your bubble.

I believe accepting constructive criticism builds you into a better, stronger person

Are you telling me I need to accept vicious criticism? Never!

Are you telling me I need to accept honest, helpfully-meant criticism? Always! And I seek very diligently to give the same right back again.

How about you? Are you out to hurt with your comments so you can feel great about your wonderful intellect? Or do you mean to honestly help someone else grow?

If someone told you your grammar and spelling sucked canal water and you had absolutely no business whatsoever trying to palm it off for money - how would you react?

If someone told you instead that you should likely have someone proofread your writing who can help you with grammar and spelling - how would you react?

There is a world of difference. That's my point. Writers pour their souls onto the page. Those souls deserve kindness as well as growth opportunities and instruction. I do mean instruction. That's what GOOD, CONSTRUCTIVE criticism accomplishes. Vicious meant-to-hurt criticism has no place in writing - or anywhere else, for that matter - imo.

A feedback will help us to tweak our action and find our way to success. It is definitely helpful and we should receive it with an open mind.
