If you could be the best at any one of these skills, which would it be?

Hi,

I know succeeding in business whether that be online or offline requires a multitude of skills, and i know you can outsource a number of them now, and concentrate on your strengths.

However, id like to know your opinions on which skill you value most highly, (I know they are all equally important really), but if you had to choose one that you could be the absolute best in, which you feel would be crucial in order for you to succeed, which would it be;

1. Sales and Persuasion

2. Organisation and strategy

3. Accounting and finance.

4. project management

5. Writing ability.

I look forward to hearing your responses.....

Id say even if you had mastered one of these you really would need to have a basic understanding of the others to get anywhere.

Think of a good manager at work who has a basic understanding of all the elements on which their team work.

At this point in time, I would choose #2, Organization and Strategy. I think the others would fall into place if I had O&S properly under control.

I'd go for number 2 right now too...but I'd like to have some more knowledge of the rest. All of them are linked, and you need to understand them all at some level, in order to be succesful

I would have to choose writing ability. If one can write well then he can sell and persuade. If one writes, the ability to be organized increases as a writer must be organized. Accounting and finance are taken care of as you have the skills to research anything that you need to know in these areas. And project management is not an issue either as writers must be able to manage projects.

I really like this list. When I read it, I asked myself a different question: on a scale of 1-5 how would I rate myself on each one of these.

Seeing as to that ALL of them are important to success, it is interesting to note how each one of us rates themselves on these 5 categories. More interesting is what can be done to improve in each categorization. Food for thought

  • Five of them indeed important and one aspect support each other. But if have to choose one, I choose sales and persuasions. (:

None of those skills would do you any good without the all important skill of taking action.
The ability and willingness to take action is the most important skill or habit you can strive for. All the other skills will help you take the right action.
I don't know if sales and persuasion is the most important after that, but it certainly is my favorite.

I'd have to say sales and persuasion is the most important in all business as it is the step converts value into $$$.

However, personally, I like writing and enjoy the creative aspect. (this is also the part that creates the value to begin with and I guess you can apply it writing SALES copies)

Writing ability. if you can write well, you can also sell. I have outsourced content now and then but it always sounds a bit wooden.
But I think you'd need to have a working knowledge of all the areas because even if you outsource, you have to know if your workers are doing the job right.

I'd have to go with sales and persuasion.

      - Organization and strategy is nothing without the action of those strategies (sales).

      - Accounting & finance is good for the backend of your business (unless you also sell accounting services, in which case sales is still more important).

      - Project management is no different. Still need sales.

      - Writing is nice, but useless in the business world if you don't know how to write "sales copy."

      That's my two cents

Sales and persuasion in writing ability are complementary, you can't have one without the other, because in order to communicate information effectively, you need to have both persuasive and writing ability, meaning you need to know the right words to use in the right situations to both motivate people as well as educate them when necessary.

This is so important that Knowing the correct persuasive words to use can be the difference between making $1000 a day and nothing.

All other skills but in order to close the deal, we need to be a master with language and persuasion.

Wow it's a pretty old post. Anyways, your question was quite intriguing so I couldn't resist from sharing my opinion. I would go for Sales and Persuasion. Reason because first I rely on it to make my living.Second , I love interacting with people. I know I'm still a little rusty on that skill but everyday I learn new things. That's why I think it's the best part of my job.

As it was told few times in this thread, all of this skills are very important. However I think that the one which is the most important is

    2. Organisation and strategy

since it is a base of everything. If there is no good organisation and strategy, it doesn't matter how skilled is somebody in writing on accounting.

By the way, I think that my organisation skills are already good, so the skill I want to improve and I am focusing the most right now is

    1. Sales and Persuasion

It would like to be best at organisation and strategy.

I do most things in my business on my own or with the help of a few contractors. I would like to have the organisation & strategy skill to be able to build an online marketing company that generates 5 figures consistently every month! I want to know the strategy for getting bigger clients or more well-funded corporate clients.

I choose number 5: Writing ability, because I think that this is a skill that is on demand. I can't say that writers earn a lot but I am sure that when you're a writer, you are open-minded, eager to learn and experience many things so that you have something to write about. When you have a passion for writing, you have a passion for more experiences, feelings. I think that a writer is sensitive to the world because he or she want to have something to write about, a story to tell and so you become a more holistic person. When you are holistic, I think that you can easily recognize an opportunity and know when to grab it, thus, contributing better to your life's success.

I choose organization and strategy. When you're organized, you have a schedule to follow. This is better than not having any schedule at all. When you miss out, you simply strategize in order to keep up or catch up with your tasks. I think these are crucial keys/skills for one's success.

IMO, you can be the best at all of these but if one day you feel lazy and for some reason you just lost the discipline you had, then you can't be at your best in any of these skills. Therefore, I think the best skill would be mastering yourself, aka discipline.
