5 Tips to help you be more productive.

Motivating yourself to excel at you endeavors should not be something you do only when the spirit moves you. It's an ongoing process that should include every aspect of your life. This means your mental attitude, physical well-being and appearance, work atmosphere, your interaction with others such as clients and employees, and your off-the-job environment.

Of course a lot of this is easier said than done, but if you take it slowly and work on yourself bit by bit you will get the results and it will help! not just in the IM world but generally speaking in the "real" world as well.

MOST PEOPLE LIKE TO BE AROUND POSITIVE PEOPLE

Why do people like to hang out around positive people? I can answer that and so can you. Would you rather be around a person that is always sulking about an EX girlfriend? Would you want to be around a crowd of people that like to talk about how depressing life is? I know I wouldn't and I'm sure you wouldn't either. So keep your head up, stay positive, and set an example to those who are seeking what you have to offer!

Here' a rather small list of 5 tips to help you stay motivated and excel at your endeavors:

• Maintaining a Positive Attitude - Life is only 10% of what happens to us and 90% how we react to what happens to us. We are responsible for our own actions and attitudes, and changing them when appropriate. When you're around people/things that are uplifting and positive, you feel the same way. You have to have more confidence in yourself, and know you can change whatever needs changing.

• Problems at home? - Everyone has problems outside of work, but they don't belong at work. Focus your attention and energy entirely to your on-the-job tasks. This will help you stay positive/motivated/focused. Plus it will give you a mental break from your troubles.

• Speaking to yourself - I started speaking to myself back in my younger days because I found that does in fact help! The reason for writing goals for your business is the same as creating positive affirmations on paper. What your eyes see and ears hear, your mind will believe. Try it! After you've written them down, read them aloud to yourself - and do it every morning when you get into work. You'll be amazed at what happens. Come up with a set of new ones every month. Statements such as, "I'm an important and valuable person," or "I know I'll make good use of my time today." Repeating them out loud everyday at a set time will help reinforce positive actions.

• "Time out" & Break Time -This is an area where most bosses/entrepreneurs experience a downfall, I know I have. You become so intense about the project or situation you're working on that it's really hard to ease up. Setting and maintaining a specified break schedule, even if you're the boss, releases the tension. If you work on a computer this is even a greater problem because before you realize it - you've been working in that same position for hours. The best answer to this is to set yourself a reminder on your appointment calendar for every 2 hours, and let the computer reminder chime send you the alert to move around, I started using my mobile phone to help me and iv seen big results! Try it!

• Desk Zombie? Get some exercise!- I know that lately it seems that "exercise" is the cure-all to every physical ailment, but despite that there is some truth to that ugly word (exercise), sometimes exercising those muscles can be something we all dislike, but by exercising I don't mean that you should go out and join a gym and spend your lunch-time, 3-days-a-week there working out.

What is really beneficial and workable is that at those chiming alerts from your Computer, Tab, or Cell Phone to get up and walk around your desk or room. Perhaps go outside to get the mail and enjoy the sunlight (if you're an entrepreneur that has a home office), or just get up and do a few stretches. Concentrated, tense thinking - typing - plotting plans - or whatever your work, makes all those muscles tighten up and tense up. Then when we move we "ooh" and "ouch" because we've knotted up into a ball of tension. Periodic stretching, even at our desk, or just getting up and walking over to the window and getting a different view can help.

If you are like me, and spent a great deal of money on your home office, it is hard not to fall in love with it. Momentarily transporting your mind out of work and into that place does wonders. Technicaly a few good paintings and less shiny chrome in offices would benefit us all but I suppose it's every man/woman to his/her own. Whatever works best for you!

I will soon be writing a much bigger list of Tips and posting it here. Keep an eye out for it.

Thank you for taking the time to read this post. I hope this helps you become a more productive, successful entrepreneur!

I wish you the best of luck on all of your endeavors!

    Excellent post.

I think maintaining a positive attitude is very important for your success.
What I do now as soon as I get in a bad mood or pissed off is that I just try to feel a bit better.
This is my daily task (besides business tasks of course): at anytime, try to feel a little better! It's wonderful how often you suddenly smile without any apparent reason!

And of course exercice is very important.

Do some sport and stretching every day if possible. I'm lucky enough to be able to go running during lunch break of my day job!

There is no healthy mind if there is no heathy body!

I would advise anyone trying to be more productive to control their thoughts.

Dont be a being with a mind that wonders. Whenever your mind begins to wonder, catch yourself, and get focused.

      Great thread!

Cool list! Here's my tips that I use personally:

#1 - Prioritize, prioritize, prioritize. (Make a list of things to get done in priority order every morning, and start the list fresh every morning).

#2 - Work in 2 hour chunks and take a 30 minute break in between each chunk where you completely relax and literally step away from the work. A personal timer helps well with this.

#3 - Get rid of all distractions and interruptions.

#4 - Get plenty of sleep, eat healthy, and drink plenty of water in between each break.

#5 - Outsource, delegate, systemize and leverage yourself as much as you can.

    Hope that helps!

    Nice share,

Its really important to plan, prioritize, make a to do list and stay focus and dont get distracted.

When we work on computer its important to take a break from time to time at every interval as said above taking a break every 2 hrs really helps as sometimes we get involved so much on net that we sit for hours on system without a break.
