Creating a business takes so much time!

I'm not frustrated, maybe a little drained.. Find myself working at this great position at work 9 to 10 hours a day (not what I want to do) and I'm just tired when I get home. Last thing I want to do is get back on the computer, but I manage to do a little bit of work when I can on the side. I'm trying to find the right balance between, work , fun and play. I know there isn't necessarily a "method" but I was wondering if some of you can share how you best balance your life. I sometimes feel like I'm too consumed in what I do, I don't get much done elsewhere. Any tips or opinions would be helpful.

You should think at the back of your mind if what you're really doing is worth taking your time. The reason I decided to be a freelancer is mainly because of power of time freedom and of course, there'll be no limit on what you can do.

Just enjoy and love what you do most.

Take time to relax and play if necessary.

    Have fun while earning!

    Good luck mate!

You could try outsourcing some of your tasks to online workers. It would help you save a lot of time (time which you can use to live your life).

It does take time, that's why it is a good idea to get all your ducks in a row before diving in and doing the work. Do the research and learn from other people's mistakes. Learn as much as you can and keep trying new strategies out.

I know it is difficult with a full-time job, but you have to find a time that you can focus on building YOUR online business so you can have the freedom to work when you want.

If you're feeling drained now, then it might be a good idea to take a break for a little bit. Work hard at your job that is paying you now, and enjoy your time off so you can relax.

When you get your focus back you might be surprised at the ideas you come up with, and it might be easier for you.

To me, once you have a project that you know is proven to work, it takes a ton of work to get it going so that you don't have to keep it going once it shows it works.

However, if you do not have a proven system or method and you are jumping from thing to thing, you may never get away from the working too hard.

If you have an already proven system, you should be making enough money in 30 days or so to scale it up and start a plan to leave your day job.

Take action and never give up. I've been trying to do this for 6 years. I've still not had a net profit. I could give up and so could you. But is giving up worth it? Is it better to tried and to have failed then to never have tried at all? I think it probably is.

    Here's a method that I use.

There are people that work 50 hours a week, go to school full-time, have children, and sick family members. They sleep maybe a few hours a day, if at all, sometimes even staying up 48+ hours straight. And yet they are still building a business on the side.

I know it sounds hard, but it's not supposed to be easy.

If you want to do something, and you want to do it right, you'll put in the effort.

Also here's another big tip. How about a simple 5 minute challenge. Take 5 minutes out of your day, dedicate it heavily towards 1 objective that will progress your business every single day. Keep consistent, as time progress's you won't regret it. If you skip a day, you'll have missed out on an opportunity. It's only 5 minutes, but it will get you far in the long run, especially if you are limited on time.

Just remember to keep yourself healthy, eat good foods, get rest, and make sure your mind relax's. Don't overwhelm yourself, you might go into overload, like I did a few months ago.

I've built a few of my own business's in the last 2 1/2 years and I'll tell you, it takes work, but if it didn't, I wouldn't feel as proud.

It's like playing a video game.

You just need to share your time equally between work, side hustle and play.

Plan everything. If it's not on the plan, don't do it unless you can take something else off the plan. Your plan should include sleeping, eating well, exercising, and spending time with your family. Don't cut those short. They are just as important as other items on your list.

Sometimes it boils down to choosing just one thing and letting the other go.
That way you will have more power and energy in that one thing.

Building a business may not be easy, but it should be enjoyable. If you're not doing what you enjoy, then you're not doing what you should be doing. Anybody who wants to argue this, I'll point you in a direction that will prove this statement to be fact.

Next is leveraging what you're good at. You have your own personal strengths that set you apart from anybody else. You need to use these in whatever you're building, whether it be a blog, a product with a landing page, or anything else.

You'll know you're doing the right things when it FEELS RIGHT to be doing them. You'll wake up every day excited to work on your business, knowing with crystal clear focus what you're going to be working on next.

Everything I'm telling you is true, and it's life changing. Truth be told, even with as many of the hundreds if not thousands of hours I've put into constantly self-improving, this method of business approach is complete truth and is the ONLY way in which you should be approaching your business.

If it feels like a chore to do whatever you're doing, then you shouldn't be doing it. Your heart tells you what your strengths are by how you feel when you go to do something. If it feels draining, soul-sucking, and disempowering, then that's not what you should be doing.

Find your strengths, find your passions. Combine them, leverage them, and make an unstoppable business that earns you the incredible living that you deserve.

I have been there myself. Its challenging. As has already been suggested here, I reduced my hours at work and then focused more on the things I wanted to.

It was a good move. That said, it helps if you are truly committed to what it is you are trying to move towards...

By that I mean if you are discontented with your life as is, you need to be sure that you are not falsely motivated to do something else - anything else to get away from that situation.

So wheres your energy, your passion, your true motivation?

You are on the right track in my opinion as you are endeavouring to break the pattern and you are challenging your life as is and looking towards a better way of life.

    Goodluck!

Pick a small task at a time, designate a time and place for it, and finish it. I think it also helps to keep strategising and thinking all the time, even when you're at your regular job. You'll waste too much time if you try starting from scratch everyday.

Basically, I think what everyone's saying here is that you need to have a SOLID PLAN. It can go a long way, it keeps you focused and not stray from the path. The second thing to do is stick to it. 99.5% of people tend to just give up even before they started.

All in all, Good Planning + Taking Action = Success

For me the hardest part is learning to say no. Often times I start working and I do not stop until the whole day is gone. Then next thing you know the week and weekend are gone to. So I myself am trying to learn to settle down and tell myself to dedicate a hour just for non-work related purposes.

Enjoy the process.. Yes it takes time but it should also be fun.

As long as you are working on a business that you like, you will have fun.

Maybe you need to change niche or something.

    Cheers,

It's not always fun especially when you are already drained from working too much with less sleep but you should focus that you are doing this for a purpose and it will eventually pay off. Best of luck everyone!

When you do have time to work, shut off all outside distractions and work only on what you need to get you in profit the quickest. I like working in 1 hour blocks and then taking a few breaks on the hour like 5-10 minutes.

  • Hi LivingCali758,

There is a big difference if you are solo or have started a family. Each requires a different balancing act.

There was a period several years back, pre 2008 meltdown, when jobs and manufacting in our town were so abundant I found myself working 50 to 60 hours a week with too many overtime Saturdays thrown in there much too often.

When I came home tired out from the work day I found it always helped a lot if I could have an hour or so to be left alone and quiet. This wasn't always possible but even shorter versions helped a lot.

Often during these times I found that simple stretching exercises helped as well as meditation. Again, even short periods under a half hour really helped my whole physical and mental outlook which inspired me to do more of this. Good luck with adjusting!

    I feel your pain!

I am a college student juggling several businesses and some times it can get a little overwhelming.

My advice to you would be to stay organized and plan out your days ahead of time.

Also pick activities that will generate the BIGGEST impact for your business. Don't just work to work. Staying busy does not always mean you are doing profitable work.

It also sounds like you could benefit from hiring a virtual assistant. You can find one on Odesk for very cheap. Usually only a couple of dollars an hour. They could handle the smaller things so you can keep your focus on the bigger tasks and picture.

    Goodluck!

I think you have to get rid of the idea of "balance". Balance implies that you can multi-task and the human mind is just not set up for that. Instead of balance look for commitments to be completely present in whatever it is you're doing. Set a time that you're going to work your business and just stick to it. When that time is over, get up, walk away from the computer, and leave it for today! I use my phone to schedule my time effectively.

I would recommend "Getting Things Done" by David Allen.

Well, stop chasing that idea balance-in-life-BS! It just don't happen and it's too ideal in a sense. It's good to aspire for such thing, but the problem with people is that they tend to hope (ONLY) and tend to frustrate themselves even more.

Let it go, let yourself drained, let your world end... then get back altogether, appreciate the LITTLE THINGS! It's there, your purpose, you just have to stop for sec and think of what you really got and appreciate them. Then go back to your world a step wiser.

Yup. It does take time. I wish it didn't, but the truth is it takes a while! For me, it all started to turn around when I got more organized with my business tasks and started to stick with things instead of jumping around from project to project.

Since this sense of focus happened only last week (or the week before) I have not seen the fruits of my labor yet. But soon. I believe it will happen soon.
