Tips on motivation and monetizing a blog

Greetings,

I came across this forum something like 6 months ago. I remember doing a short eye-scan and thought is a forum about MMA and/or other martial arts. The name is a bit declining to be honest.

Anyway, by browsing some localized IM forums there was a link to this one and I joined. And yes, I'd like to ask for some tips.

I used to earn money online. I worked for Garena (garena.com) as a retailer for a year or so and was earning like $60-70 a month (not much but was pretty enough for me at that time). Then I made some Gaming websites, and we organizes leagues on them. The sign ups had fees, I'd take some percentage and give rest to the winners. Also sold these types of websites (owned 2) a year ago.

Long story comes here, bla bla. Bla bla bla. I made a tech blog without much SEO knowledge. I just wrote articles. I got some traffic and I still do from these posts. On my blog (I'm unsure whether I'm allowed to post link or not, please inform me) I get approximately 120-150 unique visitors per day, mostly US organic traffic. That's when I don't write anything. And when I do, I get approximately 700 unique visitors on that day and drops slowly afterwards. It's ranking on Alexa is approximately 3.5m.

To monetize it, as nearly every other blogger I put adsense on it. But the fact is that the CTR is really, really low and the income is bizarre. It's like a dollar per month. And yes, one of the reasons I'm posting this it's because I'd like to increase that income slowly but steadily. I don't have some high goals currently, but to be honest $15-20 per day would serve me really good now.

I started reading an adsense eBook and as soon as I finish it I planned reading some SEO eBooks (friend recommended me few). I tried PPD but it's mostly scam and personally I don't like fooling people so that wont' work for me.

So, I need basically your tips on how to improve as an Internet Marketer, or however it's supposed to be called. Should I focus more on article writing (or outsource it) or SEO such as forum posting, guest posting etc. (off page SEO).

Also I planned on starting few MNS (micro niche sites) to boost that income a bit. Are MNS sites dead after penguin and panda updates. What eBooks do you recommend for achieving this (monetizing, and no can't say for myself I'm a beginner so need for "for dummies" textbooks).

Do you have any suggestions on increasing motivation towards this work? Surely some income would do it at the moment, but until getting to that points there is a lack of motivation currently for me. I have some free time for the following year and I plan to work on these things during that period.

Thanks for your answers and kind regards

SEO is the vast field. As u said your goals are not much high right now
than slow and steady move to the success
What I recommend you to give shiny surface to the earning is

    • Visit the most trendy blogs to get technique of writing and getting traffic
    • Get some free SEO training programs (Mostly available on SEO web sites)
    • If u want to outsource put it in hands of Asian’s it will cost you less
And continuously take notes for building pool of techniques (as how you come across them), instead of memorizing them

There is little from my side SEO

Okay, here's how you do it.

Firstly, make sure that you're writing about something you care about, something you have a passion for. Your business will suffer, and so will you, if you're not writing about what you're knowledgeable and passionate about.

Write a single blog post a day on your website (Once again, make certain that your website is about something you care about). If you're not passionate about technology, then by all means, continue writing about technology. If not, then you need to create a new blog that you care about. I know it seems like a pain in the rear, but TRUST ME, writing about what you're passionate and knowledgeable about will make a world of difference in the long run.

Now about generating traffic and monetization...

As mentioned, make it a point to write at least ONE POST EACH DAY on your blog. Daegan Smith, creator of the "Maximum Leverage" system (Which is awesome) showed a website that he made about home business opportunities. He posted on it consistently. He didn't even post on it every day, but every other day or so, and in six months he was getting 350+ unique visitors each day. Oh, and his posts had NO SEO, so he was getting all this traffic to his website without any search engine optimization.

With this one website he made (And I've seen it, it's very bland and unattractive), he posted a single AdSense block at the top of the page, right above the post. Over a period of 4 years, that single AdSense block, combined with his 350+ visitors each day, had brought in more than $27,000+

Now, you mentioned that your AdSense was only bringing you in about $1 a month, correct? So here's what to do to hopefully make some more money.

    Using ClickBank:

Go to ClickBank, sign up with them, and find a product that you can promote that is RELATED to your niche. So if your niche is technology, you might find some products on ClickBank that are related to downloading brand new movies for dirt cheap, or perhaps showing them how to turn their computer tower into a server... This is all just for example, but I'm sure there's something on ClickBank that's relevant.

You then find the program or product you want to promote, scroll down to the bottom of the sales page, and usually there's a button labeled "Affiliates". Click that button, and they should have banners that you can use to promote their offers. Find a banner that will fit into the sidebar of your blog, and insert it there. This way no matter what page of your blog people visit, they'll always be seeing that banner, and if they click through and buy, then you'll get a commission.

With this method, even if you only get one sale a month, you'll certainly be making MUCH more money than you're currently making with AdSense. Remember this though, when you get the banner, YOU MUST INSERT YOUR HOPLINK! This way ClickBank knows to pay you if anybody buys the product. If you forget to insert your hoplink into the banner coding, then you're not getting paid, so don't forget this step!

    Using Amazon:

The other way is to use Amazon Associates. You can find sign up with Amazon Associates easily so long as you have a website (Which you do). Go to sign up, submit your website to them and wait to be approved.

Now, as an associate with Amazon, you can pick products that are related to whatever you're talking about, and the best part is they'll be actual products. So if you're talking about a specific camera on your tech blog, you can then use an Amazon Associates link to promote that same camera, or even related cameras, at the bottom of a post or in the sidebar of your blog.

Amazon also lets you set up something called a "Carousel Widget", which lets you take several products and put them on this rotating wheel. This is great for sidebars, because customers can see it and scroll through the related products.

Amazon may have small commissions, but here's the great part about them. If somebody clicks through your link to Amazon, it doesn't matter what they buy, you will get a commission on it.

So if a person clicks through your link to go buy a digital camera, and also decides to buy a new laptop computer, a new mouse, and a new keyboard, you will get a commission on ALL of it, not just the digital camera.

Now, let's talk about promoting your website...

Just know that since you're getting traffic to your tech website, it's obvious that it's not in desperate need of you to promote it. If you were to promote it, or any other website for that matter, then I will give you a just two methods to use to start.

You see, most people overload marketers with too much information, giving them too many options. In your case, I will give just two recommendations, which will be a fine start.

    01) Find related forums to whatever your niche is, sign up to them, and put a link in your signature. This way whenever you post on one of these forums, you're also creating a link for people to use to go to your website.

When you post on forums, write helpful posts. Don't just write garbage posts that don't help anybody. I don't like those and neither does anybody else, yet everybody still does it! If you write HELPFUL POSTS (Just like this post is), then people will recognize you as a contributor to the community, and they'll be more interested in you and more willing to click through the link in your signature.

    02) Comment on blogs in order to get traffic to your website. Find related blogs using Google Alerts (That's a whole other tutorial which I won't get too deep into here, but it's easy to set up and use), and then when links to related blogs are sent to your email inbox, click on those links, check out the blogs, and leave a good comment with a link to your website in it.

Do NOT just write stupid comments like "Great blog!", or "Nice blog, I like how you wrote it!". People will see your comment as spam, then they'll blacklist you from posting on their website again. So always post a good comment when blog commenting.

That's it for now. Your plate should have enough on it at this rate.

I hope you appreciate it, it took awhile to write all this.

I'm very thankful for your opinion and time spent to write that post.

OK, to start with writing about technology is lovely to me. Yes, I prefer gaming niche more but it's over saturated and writing about gaming sometimes requires playing games which takes away precious time.

Anyway, I'm not writing one blog post per day. Not even close. Yes in some period I did that, posting new post every day. For next 4-5 days. Then I stop for a month or two and so on. I started the blog in late November 2011.

Regarding ClickBank my country is not showed on the registration list. It's not a real problem, I'll find someone to make an account for me and finish that off. I'll rather go with ClickBank than Amazon, but I'll give both a try.

Recently I started blog posting and I got some traffic, not that much but still useful. Also I started using Twitter in a bit better manner, and created a profile on Reddit and posted two links there (got approximately 100 visitors from Reddit on one link).

Surely I do not post "Great blog, post etc." as it's common sense to deny these posts. I do the same. I try to give my opinion on whole post after reading it.

Also, since I can't send a PM right now due to lack of posts, I'd be really grateful if an experienced warrior user would look at my site and give me recommendations what to change to maximize the profit. As I don't want to post the link here, please send a PM with your IM contact, like skype.

Thanks again for all you who posted, and I'd like to hear more opinions.

You seem to know a bit more than you initially let on!

I'm glad you know the common sense things about Internet marketing, such as not posting "Great post!" within blog comments. You're taking action and you're ahead of the curve in relation to most marketers because of it.

Twitter is an excellent source, however I don't recommend that you use any mass-follow software. You need to be selective and pick people that are only in relation to your niche, and to NOT FOLLOW people who follow you just because they want more followers. If there's a person trying to promote tips on home gardening, then you want nothing to do with them. They don't care about you or your message, all they care about is spreading their own. Remember what my quote says...

"The more you give, the more you're gonna get!"

You have to be DIFFERENT from the market. The average marketers are people who clearly only care about themselves and about making money. Yes, you care about this too, but don't think that your prospects don't notice whether you're genuine or whether you're just trying to use them for money.

Building a Twitter following manually can be slow, but your list WILL BE RESPONSIVE. It's better to have 10,000 followers who are responsive than 1,000,000 followers who don't know you or care about what you have to say or offer.

As for your website, I'm not the one you want checking it out. I have specialties and strengths, and I have my way to set up my website, which is fairly common sense. If you want an expert then keep searching. What I specialize in is psychological knowledge, a growing understanding of the prospect's mentality and response to various types of marketing, and wisdom in regards to self-improvement and motivation.

I wish you luck on your search. Be passionate, be genuine, be honest, and commit yourself completely.
