One Simple Excercise that Will Change Your Life...

Simple exercise I give my coaching clients, check it out...

1) Write down something that you really want
2) Write down ONE SMALL THING you can start doing every day to get yourself closer to it
3) Write down ONE SMALL THING you can STOP doing every day to get yourself closer to it
4) Follow through with action for one solid year

Try this ^, see where you are in one month, six months one year.

We do the same thing in our company. Its called Might Time! We choose 3 things that will get us closer to our goals and do them in an hour. It keeps us focused and we get the most important things out of the way first. Great advice!

Ps. What if instead of hunting people down until they begged you to stop... pre-qualified prospects actually sought you out and asked you what you do and how you do it? Click here.

Yeah this is cool post, and works but there are more elements to this equation. The first thing you want to get wired when going after a goal, is to create your daily rituals. So if you wanted to get six pack abs, then you better start changing your daily rituals so that they become habit.

Just writing this stuff down is a start, but it takes much more than that to reach goals. Next you need to adopt a mindset that is aware of your emotions and watch how your emotions affect your life. Thanks Tony Robbins, but so true.

Because the minute you get frustrated and your emotions change, then all the writing down stuff in the world won't matter.

Of course it does, but what you're talking about here ^ is pretty advanced stuff for most people...even those who read personal growth books consistently.

I suggest this because, for most people, getting started is the hardest part. Mainly because they're thinking about ALL the changes they have to make and how far they are from their goal. This exercise is simple enough to get some momentum going, and in most cases, things start to naturally snowball from there.

LOT more practical than trying to load yourself up with things to do in the beginning. Also, emotional mastery is important, but the most important shift you can make it becoming value driven instead of being "Pain --> Pleasure" driven.

That takes more than an emotional shift, takes a shift in self-awareness and "living at the 30,000 foot view." But again, that's complex stuff. Sometimes the best way to do something great is to start small and simple.

Excellent exercise and i guarantee that it will change your life

Most people forget to use this part "Write down ONE SMALL THING you can STOP doing every day to get yourself closer to it" which is crucial as doing things to get you closer to your goals is not enough, you should also stop doing things that are holding you back.

    Cheers,

A great exercise! When I first started working at home I found it easy to get motivated and proactive about things that I thought would "get me closer to it" but found I was not being as productive as I should have been considering the number of hours I was putting in.

I soon found I needed to be more focused and that meant identifying those things that were in fact just a distraction!

    Thanks for the post!

I love it! A freind shared a study of "successful" Harvard Grads . . . the folks that made all the Money (in this case success was measured by accumulated cash value.) Some folks view the accomplishment of Harvard education a success unto itself. This study took the measure one step further.

The common pattern of success among those that were making the money was an established pattern of Goal setting and accounting.

No matter how the individual measures success (bank account, discipline, morals, etc, etc, etc,) this method works. Thanks for the reminder.

There's a great book about this concept called "The Slight Edge," just read it a few months ago. Simple, yet VERY powerful message.

      Great simple advice, sethczerepak!

The next challenge is seeing the one small thing we can STOP doing as pain to be avoided instead of a reward we really want.

When people feel powerless and discouraged, distractions quickly become their only rewards.

That's really smart. Baby steps grow larger when the legs do.
That's my shi**y attempt to write something quotable. I suck.
Seriously though, I really like that idea and think it can surprise people with just how far it could take them.
