Are you into self improvement?
Self improvement is great. I'm all for it, and I've been using it for a little over 2 years now. Brought great changes in my life, in every aspect of my life actually.
It's interesting how you suddenly find yourself living a better life than your peers when you weren't at all focusing on being better, just being better than you were yesterday, right?
I've read a lot of self help books, watched a lot of videos, read a lot of discussions, and I integrated most of the ideas into my own life.
However, this video: ... made me think and realize just why I've been feeling pretty uncomfortable lately.
It's undeniable that modern self help teachers all focus on you having to be outgoing, great public speaker, social type of person, basically inheriting all the qualities of an ideal "salesman". Think about it.
The person in this video introduces us to the remarkable fact that 1/3-1/2 of all people are actually introverts and she also explains the difference between introverts and shy people.
The simple fact is, not everyone enjoys teamwork, being around people all the time and sticking out as the "alpha" of the group. They don't need to. They function better without external stimulus. There's a very good chance that most of you are introverts.
What self help industry is doing to us lately is not acknowledging the difference between introverts and extroverts (although it's true noone is really just one of those, that person would be in a lunatic asylum*) and putting us all in the same basket - of extreme extroverts.
This brings introverts into difficult positions, they have to fake their personality, which is not a simple task. They mistake it for the feeling of "discomfort" which is supposed to represent growth.
Growth can be achieved through comfort as well. The question is - are you having fun?
A lab scientist and researcher who loves his work can find himself locked up in the lab for days, doing experiments and pushing his limits because he ENJOYS what he does and he renders great service to the public, for which he or she is paid handsomly.
That's the kind of growth you should seek. Not put yourself in situations which do not match your personality. I hope you get where I'm coming from.
Not everyone may agree with me, but I had to share my opinion on this.
In short... stay true to yourself.
Kind regards,
Zannix
