How Long Did it Take You To Reach Your Target Income?

I'm curious to hear from other warriors of how long it took them to reach their desired income. I've budgeted it out for myself of the type of lifestyle I'd like to live and I'd need to earning six figures; mid six figures in NYC no less.

Where I'm starting from it seems (almost) impossible to reach those kind of figures or requires such a large time investment I would have to quit my job. Or it may take a couple of years at least... not sure at this point because anything can happen.

Just wondering from those who have "made it" of how long it took to make it?

It was a long one for me, it took me almost a year to accomplish it. Maybe it could also depend what your target is.

I'd actually be interested to here what the time frame possibilities of making $1000/week or something like that would be. That sounds reasonable. Or what are some reasonable goals to set for a 90 day goal if you dedicated 90 minutes/day, 5 days/week.

It would be amazing to here some genuine answers on that. It would shed some light for us newbies. These get rich quick gurus make it seem like we will make so much money quick, but deep in our hearts we probably know that statements like that can be a scam or unreasonable for some of us just getting started. But truly, what are some reasonable, conservative realities. I understand everyone is on a different level, but what about a guy who is just getting into IM and who doesn't know too much about a computer?

  • I made around $8 000 for 5 months (May-September) last year. Each month differs through writing, VA and a lot more of other freelancing jobs. I worked hard during those months and I realized that while the money was really huge for Asian like me but the time and effort was so much for me so I decided to start with affiliate marketing. I started just this year and I have earned not that much yet. For this month (December 2012), as of December 1 - 10, 2012, I earned around $60+. My site is new but I already have earned for the same product with different marketing approaches. This is my first time setting up a website.

This is what I'm going to focus for now. I have nothing to share so much about the passive income regular $1000/week or something like that.

My $8000 earning was out from my almost no sleeping work mode. I don't want to do it anymore (or maybe one of these days). I am using the money for creating my website.

    Don't work hard. Work smart!

I absolutely agree with not working hard- work smart.

My main goal in doing IM to achieve freedom to enjoy life more.

To really get your business off the ground, it will take you about 2-3 weeks. Then from there you can add more clients and work on growing that into a $1000/ week or even more business.

I think it will take 3-4 months to reach there.

Took me about 2 years to break $100k. Hit some serious bottoms before that, almost ended up homeless actually. Problem was I had a 70 to 80 hour work week. Scaled that down to 20 hours now which has taken a total of four years.

If anyone on this thread is shooting for an income goal, take a step back, then set yourself an hours worked per week goal. No point in hitting your income goal only to end up trapped. It's a lot easier to pursue both goals from the start. I know I'd have gotten there a lot quicker (and with a few less grey hairs) if I'd set an hours worked per week goal too.

Makes sense. I work full time, today's my last day in school so that's done and I have a soon to be wife and puppy to take care of. I'm sure many many people have similar situations on this forum so I decided to Set my goal to spend 90 minutes/Day on IM consistently. 60 minutes of implementation. 30 minutes of research/Study. Thanks for your advice.

Awesome. That's how it's done. When you set a time limit you're usually more productive because you have less time to waste. Perfect example of Parkinson's law...a task swells in size and complexity in order to fill the time allowed for its completion.

You're on the right track my man, keep it up.

Your first income goal should be "Make enough to quit my job".

I haven't hit my ultimate income goal yet, but plan to this year. I think it's easier to become successful by starting with smaller goals and then stepping them up along the way.

Target income? Pshaw! You should first start wanting to make enough to replace your current job (if you have one). Then you should want to make as much money as there are stars in the sky. Never think small.

As said above, you should not be thinking about how much money, but thinking how to make the most in the least amount of hours worked.

You want to make 100k annually, you can work 80 hours a week, or you can work 10 hours a week, and spend the rest looking into new business opportunities or watch tv.

I earn 5 figures per month. I spent 12 months or so to get there. The first 3 months are very difficult.
