Is it possible to have only positive thoughts?

Is it really possible to have only positive thoughts?

Life is a balance, how can we only have positive thoughts, because if we do so then by disregarding the negative we shall not be able to recognise the positive as we will have nothing to compare it with and therefore nothing to judge as to whether the positive thought is positive. Without negative thoughts then a positive thought will become just a neutral thought.

What is your opinion on this?

I don't think it is possible since we are made of flesh and bones and have emotions. It just is that you need to keep uprooting your negative thoughts and replacing them with positive ones. Buddha says it best, “a positive thought, no matter how tiny it may seem, has the potential to uproot a negative thought that weighs the size of a mountain.”

I'd go one step further to say having only positive thoughts would be a negative thing, actually. If you go through life as a Pollyanna, you're not going to be able to accurately assess a situation. Sometimes things do, in fact, suck. Understanding that they're bad and getting a really clear, realistic look at them is the only way you're going to be able to make them better than they currently are.

I don't think so, it's part of us already to think any possible outcome either positive nor negative.

Positive thinking isn't about never having a negative thought. It's about choosing which thoughts to focus on as they come to you.

Everyone has positive and negative thoughts. Which ones you spend the most time with is what will color your life. It's been said in a thousand ways that what we focus on becomes our reality. That's true on many levels. It's why so many fail in IM. They focus on what they can't do, or what they don't know, or on a lack of results ... so they get more of the same.

Mind is like a machine in a way. What you focus on is what you're telling it is important to you, and so mind will find ways to bring that to you or to prove you right.

There's a free tip for you, but don't discount it because it was freely given. Many men and women have gotten rich by selling that philosophy.

Just when you think you've got it all figured out, someone changes the rules.

Well said. It's how you frame your thoughts that makes all the difference.

No, I don't think it is possible. Even the most happy and positive people would most likely have negative thoughts periodically. Imagine how exhausting it would be to be positive all of the time. I think it is human to have negative thoughts sometimes. It's how you handle the negative thoughts that matters.

I think Dennis has said it the best.

I think that in theory, it is possible... or the concept is possible... like the concept of a perfect circle.

I don't think it's healthy. When I was counseling, I found that the people with the most severe issues were those who tried to bury or deny their "bad" thoughts and feelings. Most of them overcame these issues by developing healthy ways of expressing these thoughts and feelings. Honesty is important for integrity and personal clarity, which is a must for remaining confident and motivated.

The only thing that makes a thought or a feeling negative, or positive, is the action you take in response to it and who you become because of it. When all your thoughts and feelings are used to fuel empowering actions, you mature from positive thinking to proactive living.

Even positive thoughts can lead to negative actions. It happens all the time, a person says "Everything is going to work out anyway," and they sit back and take no action.

I've been guilty of this at times. I achieve a big goal and I'm tempted to "reward myself" by slacking off and making an exception. That's how you lose your momentum. Becoming your best self starts with accepting and expressing your genuine self, imperfections and all.

Are humans capable of positive thinking most of the time? YES...

Is it realistically possible to be positive all the time? Probably not.

    Why?

It's got nothing to do with you as a human being rather our society, the news media, marketing etc. We live in an era where 90% of all information we consume daily is negative in one form or another. Therefore, when you sit in the gutter long enough, you will start to smell whether you know it or not.

There was a really good TED talk once by a lady who talked about how there is a pressure on society nowadays to be happy at all times. Success breeds success, and we must believe that we will be successful.

I think that positive thinking is really a great way to live, however, I don't think that it should trump common sense. So basically, I'm not even sure that if you were even able to think positively at all times, it would be beneficial to do so.

Remember what Cap't Kirk said in Star Trek V?

James T. Kirk: Damn it Bones, you're a doctor. You know that pain and guilt can't be taken away with the wave of a magic wand. They're the things we carry with us, the things that make us who we are. If we lose them, we lose ourselves.

[to Sybok] I don't want my pain taken away! I need my pain!

    Love that movie.

Nobody can run away from negative thoughts. Unless you are some enlightened being! At the end of the day what matters is that you believe in yourself. When you begin to doubt yourself or have negative thoughts just ask yourself what will thinking negatively bring you, what is the point of it?

When I am down in the dumps, something went wrong, I just sigh deeply and get on with my life.

Human mind always tends to be negative. So for us to remain positive always is very difficult. The people whom you interact with daily and your surroundings also plays an important role. How much ever positive you are, if the ones with whom you are there are always negative, you are doomed. You will go back to negativity. It takes lot of energy to remain positive while we are always surrounded by negative people.

This is a very interesting topic. I would define both this way:

Negative thoughts are absurd thoughts that block your evolution.

Positive thoughts are wise thoughts that help you triumph.

I don’t believe we need negative thoughts in any way.

You should avoid negative thoughts the more you can, without believing that they could be helpful or logical.

What is negative is always destructive and dangerous.

When you keep thinking that everything will be bad for you, you have no courage to go on.

You must believe in miracles if you want to see miracles happening.

Therefore, you have to always fight all negative thoughts. This means that you must send all negative thoughts away. You cannot passively follow them.

If you’ll be serious it will be possible for you to only have positive thoughts, but you have to keep sending away all the negative thoughts that make you lose your self-confidence, without forgetting your mission.

When you'll learn how to combat all negative thoughts, you will have only positive thoughts that will help you solve your problems.

However, this is not something that can be accomplished without work, patience, and persistence.

It's not possible I guess. But if you can think positive always, you can see the face of success again and again.

If a person has only positive thoughts, then the world would have been very different. I can't even think how the world will be, if everyone was positive in their thinking.

You took it wrongly Kaytav. There is nobody in this entire world, who can take everything positively. Because if everything is positive and nothing negative, you will never understand the real value of being positive. Being positive is an art. Life is full of positive and negative things. And you have to remember that positive thoughts create positive results and negative thoughts create negative results.

So if you understand the actual value of being positive, you will never even think about being negative. It will help you grow your thoughts and bring an wonderful change into your life. It's not about forgetting the negatives. It's only about giving more importance to being positive. Because this is the only way to grow in life. A person who always things in a negative way, can never succeed in life.
