How we interpret things can change our entire life

Hi guys

Since I'm a personal development fan/student (my product is on the topic) I usually read books on the topic (I think you all do the same).

This time it was the "Difficult Conversations" book.
I know it might not sound a direct SelfDevel book, but I assure it's worth the money.

Anyway there's a passage that I love, and I think you might benefit from it.

We are used to have our mind talk during the day, right?
It's just usual (even though not very beneficial).

But what if our mind is wrong?

The book use a great example to explain how many conclusions we draw with no data supporting them.

Let's say you are snorkeling in the Sea, the temperature of the water is great and you are enjoying the moment.
Until you see a Shark not so far away.

Default reaction: RUN!
Which is, of course, right.

But what If we studied the various types of fishes and we knew the type of shark? And what if the shark was eventually not risky for us humans because it's a white reef shark?

You get the point.
We tend to draw conclusion, assume things.
It's just how our mind works.

Moreover, our mind HATES changes.
This is why when we do something new we imaging all the possible failures instead of the success outcomes.

Can we do something about it?
YES.
Here's a small list of possible actions that I think are a good start
  • When you image failures outcomes try thinking about the possibility that this is your sub-mind work, not something real.
  • Think in a foreign language (helps being rational)
  • Ignore your mind talk and risk a bit more everytime (start with small stakes)

I hope you like it (and read the book, it's top-notch)

Have a great day
