2012 Lessons Learned/Relearned

Hey all!

I've been earning money online since 2009 and have had many ups and downs. Obviously more ups because I'm still here lol. I was just thinking about my journey over the past year and wanted to share some of the things that struck me as I looked back on this past year.

Friendships rule - I have gotten to know more people this year than ever before. Friendships rule online! Are you building friendships?

Recurring income - is a big fat must in my biz. I am sooo happy I created streams of income that are recurring. It has saved me many-a-times!! Do you have recurring income (at least a little bit)?

Redesign - a fresh redesign of my PLR store helped to motivate and inspire me to do even better. Redesigns can give you a fresh outlook and renewed sense of commitment. Still working on one for my blog.

Comfort zones - are dangerous and you must step out of your comfort zone to push yourself to reach higher goals. If you don't feel a little nervous then maybe you aren't pushing yourself out of the zone enough.

Mindset - OMG is mindset HUGE. All you need is the right mindset and you will achieve anything. You need mental strength to get over the many obstacles you WILL face. How tough are you???? How confident are you?

Keeping it simple - is a must. Overcomplicating things that are not complicated only delays your success. All in all, the things that work are simple - have something to sell (yours or someone else's) and building an email list.

Being real - being yourself is what separates you from everyone else. So why not be you?

What are some things you have learned or relearned?

I hope you all have a very happy new year and find all you are looking for in 2013!!

I have learned so much online this year! First off I have learned how to make a website and get traffic. I build the website from the ground up. I had little to no experience in building a site. I was so excited when I first started and still is.

I now have build lots of sites. I can say that I high goals for the future and they are waiting to come and present themselves to me. There is so much that I have learned and a lot of people that I have met online that are willing to help even a newbie. I would write more but I have some things that need to be done and thanks for sharing!

    Cheers!

That's my goal this year--to learn the nuts and bolts of getting a site up, uploading graphics and info, all the actual publishing/graphics part of affiliate marketing.

It's intimidating but it's such a slowdown to my efforts. I can see it in my mind, but get stuck because I don't know the how-to of getting that vision online. So I'm a bit scared and also very excited about the coming year.

Glad to hear you did it successfully. Well done!!!

The most important thing I learned in 2012:

I should learn to use paid traffic to drive target traffic, and don't only rely on free traffic.

Because the time spent on free traffic is money too.

Since the beginning of 2012, I have been throughly researching IM. Currently, I am learning to become a successful IM. The most important part for me is the mindset.

I have learned this year there is no push button system. You get out of your business what you put into it : )

Recurring income is a big one for me as well. In 2012 I focused some efforts there, and they've paid off big time. I love being able to focus on other things and know that all of my bills are being paid without me doing a single thing.

If you don't have recurring income yet, I encourage everyone to focus on it in 2013. It makes working on other ventures MUCH more rewarding.

So true! I agree and I am definitely a paid traffic kind of gal!

I didn't even realize how important mindset was until this year when I had a few set backs. It's more important than I had ever thought.

THANK YOU for posting that! There is NO magic button. Work is involved.

Recurring income is great! It's not without issues of course - there are pros and cons to everything. BUT selling something once that has the potential to pay you over and over in the months to come is amazing!

continue a healthy sense of paranoia and don't trust anyone. I'm serious. It's been a surprisingly successful year for me; largely because I have a keen bs-meter and don't trust people. By not focusing on a lot of jv stuff and affiliates, I can instead focus energy on where it should be, my hyper-responsive and loyal list of customers and prospects. I work my butt off to genuinely help them; while distrusting others in my industry. It works.

Never have I agreed with something more that's presented in the most negative sounding way possible!

      I "use sharp instinct".

I have learned how to build an online business that's able to run without having me to physically work for it after the initial work is done. In short, residual income.

I have learned that quality is more important than quantity. Providing helpful information to my readers is more crucial than anything else.

I have learned to outsource complicated task which I know nothing about (like programming, designing and a few others) instead of me burning my brain-cells and wasting time trying to figure out how it works.

Great points! Yes quality is more important than quantity and outsourcing is huge too!

    Hey Lisa,

That's some great writing! To answer your direct question, I learned how:

To make Squidoo lenses that convert. - For what seemed like forever, I dismissed the idea that Squidoo lens-building was profitable. That is, until I tried it. No more naysayer for me. I am happy to report that Christmas shoppers proved me wrong!

Blogging is a great way to build your brand. - I should have realized this fact way before now because blogging is writing and article marketing is how I built my very first mailing list. Duh!

Schmoozing builds community. - You'll get nowhere without an audience. Schmoozing stokes the fire that produces HOT leads.

To step out of my comfort zone. - I participated in a 30-day vlogging challenge (with you and others) that made me create video!

To make on-camera video. - This was a major marketing mistake, but I finally bit the bullet and jumped aboard. By overcoming this major hurdle, I can now produce signature products that include on-camera instructions.

Like you Lisa, I have bonded with several personality types during 2012 and I look forward to growing those relationships in 2013 and on.

Let me know when you'd like to get together in 2013...

I learned that you are bound to make mistakes but instead of shying from then learn to take the hits, mistakes, failures and turn it into success!

I am really new to this, only joined Warrior Forum today, but have been viewing for a while. That is the main thing I have learned, if anyone promise you a quick solution - find out what the warriors says first.

Biggest lesson learned in 2012 - People who achieve big actually want to help you. For free. Because they have a need to contribute. And there are a lot of these people. You just have to find them. And ask.

For me I want to more than double what I made in 2012 I had hosting problems, Adsense was doing okay until the dreaded suspension came.

So in 2013 I want to be building a list, cranking up my video marketing, Ebay, Amazon, CPA and Clickbank . Oh! I nearly forgot mobile marketing and offline businesses is what I want to do more than I have done.

I don't have many friends online, but because of the limited time I have it wouldn't be fair in a way to keep people waiting for me when I'm busy away from the PC.

For me I need a plan and to focus, and do something if I can at least once a day no matter how small it might be.

2013 IS going to be a better year, and I hope that it will be for many of you also!

Wishing you all a Happier & Prosperous New Year.

    Brian

Ps I shouldn't forget that a lot of money has been from affiliate marketing which I want to earn more from. It's always nice to have a pleasant surprise of money in the PP account. Also, along with that promoting WSOs, and who knows I might have a product in me as well

One thing I discovered personally and before I got involved in coaching, and something I continue to teach my coaching students to this day is that a real 'lesson learned' is one that you experienced, and on the basis of what you experienced you're either wiser and more knowledgeable...then that's a lesson learned.

If you're no better off, then it's not a lesson learned because you're bound to go on ad repeat the same mistake again.

    • Just do it. That's the big lesson I learned!

When I actually finish something, I have a feeling of success. That fuels more action on my part. It's tough not getting caught up in perfection. Just pumping it out is my essential first step.

Not to say I don't worry about details. But first I need to get something done. At that point, I can start fiddling with the finer points.

      Happy New Year!
      Mary
