Living For Other People's Opinions... You Are So Dead!

Hi guys. I just want to share some quotes I got from Carlos Slim (currently the world's richest man) on this article: Why Carlos Slim Is The Richest Man In The World | Addicted 2 Success


Here they are:

"I think one of the big errors people are making right now is thinking that old-style businesses will be obsolete, when actually they will be an important part of this new civilization. Some retail groups are introducing e-commerce and think that the "bricks" are no longer useful. But they will continue to be important." - Carlos Slim

"When you live for others' opinions, you are dead. I don't want to live thinking about how I'll be remembered." - Carlos Slim



The last quote is the most powerful one for me because I still feel a bit concerned about how my parents look at me.

But when I read this quote, it hit me hard and I also remembered what Bob Proctor said about being free. He said don't think about how your wife, children, family, relatives, friends and associates will view you... never care about their opinions. Just do your thing and be who you want to be. (I'm paraphrasing).

This is exactly what Carlos Slim is talking about. Practice not caring about what other people say about what you can and can't do.

Live your life the way you want to and work towards becoming more authentic and closely in-tune to who you really are.

    Logic tells me not to care about what other people think of what I can or cannot do. And I believe that should be the case as well.

    Unfortunately, when people around you tend to think otherwise, you do doubt yourself at times. This was exactly what happened to me quite some time ago. Which is why it's extremely important to surround yourself with like-minded people. I think joining this forum has been one of the best decisions in my life and I'm grateful for this!

      I agree Rachel. It is human nature to want to belong and be liked by as many as possible and mostly you can shrug off the ghouls and haters in your life. Sometimes though, the venom slips through the best of defences.
      Arm yourself with those whom you can rely on and turn to in times of doubt and make sure they are always welcome wherever you go

      Trying to live your dreams or strive to reach beyond what you are experienceing right now is a difficult thing to accomplish when those around you do not share your vision. Finding like-minded people would be a great help! Many times it has been difficult for me to find anyone that truly is like-minded. During those times, keeping my dreams and goals to myself instead of sharing them with others is the easiest way to stay motivated. When nobody else knows what your dreams and goals are, they are not able to tell you that you cannot accomplish them and that you should just settle for less.

      Keep dreaming, hoping and setting goals for what you really want! When you finally attain what you strive for you may be able to help lift others that are struggling too!
