3 Simple Mind Shifts that Will Make Online Marketing Easier for You
This forum has some great info on it, if you know how to use it right.
But I see a lot of newbies fall prey to 'shiny object syndrome,' focus all their efforts on SEO when they don't even have a decent end product, and get fairly jaded.
There's a sickness in some parts of the IM culture that has mutated Internet marketing into "make money for money's sake" - the ends justify the means.
Here's 3 simple, but super-effective 'mental shifts' that will help break you out of that destructive IM thought pattern
- and help you make more money in 2013:
1) Do something that's both useful and exciting to you
Any successful, long-lasting business is going to come from actually providing a useful tool, service, or information that helps someone.
By choosing something that excites you as well, you're more likely to have the 'staying power' needed to make it through the ups and downs.
And success isn't going to come from half-assing it, focusing only on what YOU get out of it, or doing as little work as you can. If you come into IM for those reasons, you are SETTING YOURSELF UP FOR FAILURE.
2) Stop right now and look at how you're using Internet marketing
I know for plenty of people, the reason they started working online was 'for the freedom and financial gains.' That's okay as a secondary goal - but your primary goal needs to be 'because there's something beneficial to others that you enjoy doing'.
Real Internet marketing is not about making a quick buck. It's another way to reach potential customers. So I'll say it again, don't make 'making money' your priority.
Even if your cash flow is low, don't build your long-term business goals around just 'making money.' Do what you need to do right now to make money to pay your bills, but build up your long-term business goals around the principle of helping others in a way that's exciting and profitable for you
Now, I'm not saying you should just 'do what you love' and expect everything to fall into place. But for just about every passion that exists out there, there's a way to successfully monetize it - and have fun doing it.
3) Stop building your business core around impermanent things (SEO and such)
I cringe when I see people asking 'how to find good niches with X tool." Your business building decisions should NOT hinge on SEO or other metrics alone.
They can be a factor in your traffic strategies, but to make things like SEO or Keywords the basic method for choosing your niche is insanity.
It's a good idea to look at what the market wants, but don't just throw yourself into a market that you couldn't give a rat's behind about.
Why so many people suffer from 'shiny object syndrome'
By entering a 'niche' thinking you can just brace through it till you 'make it,' you're setting yourself up to burn and crash.
Instead of being enthusiastic about what you're doing, your entire business and marketing journey is then turned into pain. Instead of enjoying, growing relishing the process, everything becomes an escape.
And eventually, when your latest effort becomes too hard without enough payoff, you bail and hop to something new, hoping "THIS will be the thing that finally makes millions for me!"
Later you lament "Why can't I make any money...?" with your trail of half finished projects sitting behind you.
Do yourself a favor and take this advice to heart
Yes, you can make it online - I promise you will get there. But you need to enjoy the journey. Choose something that interests you, do some research, make a plan and implement it without giving up.
But above all, enjoy what you're doing NOW. Or there will be nothing that will make you truly happy.
There are literally millions of people out there who NEED YOUR HELP and they want to give you money! You don't have to cheat, trick, spam, or sell your soul to make a happy living.
Now go on and do it!
