Seeing What You Want to See: Do You See Success?

Once upon a time, a traveler from a far and distant town approached a wise man that was just leaving the city into which the traveler was entering. The traveler stopped the wise man and said, "Can you tell me about the city from whence you have just come? What is the quality and character of the citizens here?"
The wise man replied, "First stranger, tell me: What were the people like in the last town you visited?"
The traveler replied, "Oh, they were a cold bunch of people with no kind words for anyone. It was not a happy town. They were very judgmental, and the people were mean-spirited and unwelcoming. I couldn't get out of that town fast enough."
The wise man paused and then replied, "Ah. I believe you will discover that the citizens of this town are exactly the same."
A short distance farther down the road, the wise man encountered another distant traveler entering the city. And likewise, the traveler asked the same question of the wise man, saying, "What is the quality and character of the citizens of this city, sir?"
Again, the wise man replied, "First stranger, tell me: What were the people like in the last town you visited?"
The traveler replied, "Oh, they were an amazing group of people! They were outgoing and friendly and welcomed me with open arms. They were unconditionally loving, and I felt like each one was my brother or sister. Oh, I miss them greatly."
The wise man paused and then replied, "Ah. I believe you will discover that the citizens of this town are exactly the same."

I'm not sure who wrote that, but I love it. We see what we want to see. If you see that achieving business success will be hard work, massive action and hoping to get in on something at the right time, then it will be hard work, massive action and lots of hoping. If you see that achieving business success will be exciting, fun, then it will be.

The amount of work is the same, but in one case, it's "work" and the other, "inspired, joyful, playful action." Personally, I'd rather take inspired, playful action to get my results!

I spend 30-60 minutes every day in meditation. That's when I rewrite the negative stories I tell myself, the stories about how hard something might be or how much persistence I'll have to muster up.

When I choose to see something with enthusiasm and curiosity, it becomes more fun. When I'm having fun, I work harder - and it doesn't feel like work. When I work harder, I get awesome results.

And I like that.

I choose to see, and choose to live in such a way that I design my work experience according to what I want to experience. I want to have fun. To learn. To grow. To expand. To consciously create. The results are just the frosting on the cake, and believe me, there's lots and lots of delicious frosting!

    Jarmila! Great POST!! (THANK YOU!!!)

Like You,.....I cannot start my day without first starting off with at least 10 minutes of solitude, introspection, and deep meditation......

On those rare days that I do miss my session,.......I most definitely "feel" human again!

I totally vibe with what you're saying about work, .....hard work,.......particularly in relation to "inspired action".

There are many folks who are just plain good, or even supremely excel at a certain skill or set of skills,.....be it their vocation or not.

However,.....in my experience,....in meeting numerous folks like this,......there was one common, almost surreal realization amongst these "experts".

Surprisingly,.....despite most of these folks being "good at what they do",.......most do not have a real "passion" for it!! I know! weird,...almost backwards!...But true!!!

Soo,...they assume that since they "excel" at what they do,....they just keep doing what they do (i.e. like a j.o.b.),...and assume that that's just what they are meant to do!

What's sad about this,....is that if these folks just take the time to really explore deep inside, what they really, really, really want in life,.....like YOU, Jarmila!,.....You obviously know EXACTLY what You want,.........then what tends to happen,....is,.....

......You end up being inspired into action,...and following a flow,....that just seems to fall into place, ever so subtly and seemingly coincidentally.

You meet people and find yourself in places that just makes sense to you. More and more people and circumstances just seem to happen to be there at the right time, at the right place, to help you keep on moving forward,..with your "passion".

Now don't get me wrong!,.....there is no negation of heartache, obstacles, and challenges!

Those will always be there, regardless!

It's how you handle these and continue to move on,...and remain perceptive to your 'greatest good',......that will determine the "smoothness' and ease of the rest of your destined journey.

Make it FUN,....Don't Quit!,....Give it Your ALL,...especially when you just KNOW,...that its' the Right Thing!!

    CHeers, Jarmila!

This Post will help many, many, many Fellow Warriors. They just don't realize it yet!

    Onward & Upward,....

The Best is Yet to Come,....

    Yours,

    A.D. Christian

Thank you so much! I am so grateful to touch so many hearts! I write from the heart, the 'been there, suffered through it and learned from it' school of life :-) I hope I can put a smile on many faces and a 'knowing' in many hearts!

Jarmilla, thank you! Thanks for a great post!

The example you provided us with at the start was fascinating and it really got me thinking! I feel very motivated after reading it!

The other day I wrote a thread that had a similar message to be delivered, the only difference being you explained it in a much better way !

I think so many people believe that to achieve success, they have to follow a specific route defined by someone with more knowledge than them. This is not the case!

By looking at success in that light makes it seem dull and boring! There seems to be so much work and not enough energy to do it!

Whereas, like A.D Christian stated above, if people look deep inside and find out what they actually want to do. What does success mean to them, things suddenly start to look better!

Once their perspective is changed, the dull and boring tasks become enjoyable and pleasant! The work load becomes something they will look forward too since they see it as something fun!

I find it funny that most of the people on here are looking to make some more income streams to live a better life yet they aren't enjoying it so far! It just makes me giggle!

This post will certainly help them! Well done to you!

    Have a great day!

I chose entrepreneurship over further education despite being laughed at by my friends and family..

I recently hit the "RESTART" button on my life, read my personal blog to find out how I did it :)

Ha ha, I wrote an article for my newsletter a few years ago in which I paraphrased that story because I couldn't remember the source either.

I love stories that illustrate a truth using a simple allegory. People get it, yet don't feel like they're being preached to -- it's a great way to impart lessons in living.

    Nicely done!

I believe and agree that we chose or decide whatever we describe and see success in our life. If it is fueled or motivated out of our intense desire to prove something to other people then you will always find it hard to success. But if success is for you is fueled by love and security among your love ones like family and friends, then your success will always be as easy as a breeze. But I am not saying life is easy, what I mean to say is that we could always see that silver lining.

Great post Jarmila! I have already heard that story when I was a child and I love it too. It reminds me a trip I did to a place where people were supposedly unpleasant and I found that everyone was kind with me lol.

I believe that achieving business success is really exciting and fun, and also requires a bit of work. But working is part of the fun if you choose the right type of business for you.
