Can you manifest a desire by simply wanting it?

I've been taught by many that in order to manifest something into reality, you have to first believe that you already have it. It's not enough to just want it. You have to "claim it", as they say. So, if you want health, you have to first believe that you're already healthy. If you want money, you have to first believe that you already have money.

They go on to say you have to put positive emotions into the desire, and on top of that, you can't think any negative thoughts, and on top of that, you have to drop it and stop thinking about it. So you have all these steps you need to take for creating your reality.

My question is, can you manifest something simply by desiring it? wanting it? Regardless if you dwell upon it or let it go, regardless if you think bad thoughts or not, regardless if you have happy feelings about it, regardless if you believe you already have it or not. You know what you want, and the thing you want is going to happen.

Can it be as simple as that? Or do you have to go through all these steps? Thanks.

The Laws of the Universe have been here since time began and will be here forever, and will not change. Everything you said regarding having posessed what you so desire is true

Napoleon Hill describes it as "a burning desire" and "persistence" from his book, "Think and Grow Rich".

Bob Proctor in his book "You Were Born Rich" also expounds upon this very topic.

Your subconcious cannot tell the difference between what is real and what is not real, so you have the ability to determine your future by plaing into your subconcious the very thoughts you wish to have manifested in the physical realm.

    Just my take

    My conundrum as well.

I brought this up in another thread.

Thousands of thoughts an hour, how can one filter out the detremential ones?

    Meditation? Tried it

    Focus? How?

Would love to get some clarity on this.

The answers are all over the place, my friend. Why don't you accept them?

      Focus, how? Meditate.

You've "tried" meditation, but you don't meditate. Of course it's not working because you don't do it.

You have already made up your mind that it doesn't work, and that very fact proves it to be so, which in turn proves the fact that reality is made by your thoughts. Change your thoughts, change your life. It's that simple.

        Hi Kevin32,

What I've been taught and found to be true is that when it comes to manifesting, nothing is more important than how you FEEL.

This is because focused, positive energy is what really draws things into our reality.

The reason we're told to believe we already have what we want is so that only positive emotions are associated with the thing that we want. If you feel like you already have something, there's no frustration, anger, sadness, disappointment etc. (all negative energy) from not having it when you focus your energy toward it (i.e. think about it).

For example, if you want money but every time you think about money you feel DEPRESSED that you don't have enough money or ANGRY because you don't have the money you want to get the thing you want, the Universe (or whatever you choose to call It) will associate those negative emotions (negative energy) with the topic you're thinking about (money).

Therefore, the Universe will think "MONEY = NEGTAIVE ENERGY; MONEY = BAD; KEVIN32 DOESN'T WANT MORE MONEY."

So, instead of just believing you already have something, FEEL like you already have it. You can do this a number of ways. So, with the money, think about a time when you had an influx of money and how happy you felt! Or even something as simple as the way you feel on a payday Friday when all your bills are going to get paid and you even have some extra left over for fun! Associate that feeling with money every time you think about it. So when you need money for something don't add negative energy to it by thinking about how you don't have enough money for it. Think along the lines of, "It's okay, the money will come (like you already have it and it's just waiting in a bank account for you, which "figuratively" it is).

But what if you've never had an influx of money and you don't really know how that feels? Simple. Pretend! Just as Vallank2 stated, your mind really can't tell the difference between a real emotion and a pretend one. It just cares about positive and negative. So make up how you think it would feel, as long as it's very positive.

For an even better affect though, try to experience the thing that you want, even if for a short while. For example if you want a certain car, take yourself down to the local car dealership and test drive it. Pay close attention to how EXCITED you feel as you see it in person... The RUSH you feel as you open its driver-side door and take a seat... The EXHILARATION you feel as your foot presses the gas and you take it out on the open road... And so on! Now you may not be able to purchase the car that day but from then on, every time you think about it, you'll have that positive feeling to associate with it and not the negative energy of the thought that you don't have it .

And don't worry about all the confusion about whether or not you should be thinking about it a lot or not thinking about it all. They say you should think about it a lot because the more positive energy you put toward it the better it will be drawn to your life.

They say not to think about it because if you think about it all the time but you still have negative energy in those thoughts, you're repelling it away from you.

So what I say is this: when you think about it, FEEL POSITIVELY about it! And when you're not thinking about thinking about it, rest assured with the silent confidence that there is nothing holding you back from having it (even if you have to make up with that assurance feels like).

The amount you focus on and don't focus on it can change depending on where you are emotionally. The more positive energy you feel like you put into it, the more you can THINK about it, FOCUS on it and MEDITATE
about it. The more negative energy you feel like you're feeling about it, the less you should think about it. Simple, right!?! People make things so complicated sometimes! Just FEEL GOOD about it whenever it is you do focus on it!

Another side key to this though, is the Art of Allowing. So if you don't get the money you WANTED to purchase the thing you WANTED when you WANTED it, then just ALLOW that situation. Be cool and don't be so dissapointed that it takes over your positive mindset. Think along the lines of, "That thing just must not have been for me at this time :p. I may get it later or I may even get something better so it's OK!" That way you don't add negative energy to the thing that you didn't get. Believe me, this takes PRACTICE!

I hope I've helped! May you attract every good thing into your life!

Be Blessed! = Be Empowered to Succeed!

no...but it helps with the motivation part. When you are first starting out its pretty easy to just give up cause it feels like nobody is reading your blog/buying your product, etc. Its easy to get discouraged. That is where the whole manifest thing would come in handy. Use it as more of a motivation tool.

But you still have to work hard. If you procrastinate on facebook all day and believe you are a millionaire...at the end of the day you will still be a broke dumbass

I think you also need to work for it.

Wanting and desire are one ingredient, you also have to show the Universe you're serious about it. There is obviously a time lag in our ability to think of something we want and when it's created. If only the things we wanted manifested at the thought... or maybe not. That might be a skill worth practicing :p

Anyway, all your being has to show you want something. Your thoughts, your emotions, and your behavior. The ability to stay focused over time matters because of that time lag from thought to creation so you have to think of it every day and keeping on it.

I think, at this stage in the manifestation you have all the ingredients in the pot to cook, but you haven't turned the oven on yet. Cooking it to perfection takes time and must be nurtured and worked on, but you will get there as long as you don't walk away from the stove because the meal takes too long to cook.

Not the best analogy, but I like cooking

I have to add that I agree whole-heartedly with Mlbinov8 and Ephrils! You Have to work towards it! Like "Allowing," it's another key to your success and it's definitely one of the most important! I love what Ephrils said about showing the Universe you're serious! I think showing seriousness is a great fail-safe the Universe has in place. Imagine if there was no time lag or seriousness requirements and everything you ever half-heartedly thought about wanting just POPPED into existence! Believe me, you would NOT be happy! So, to get what you truly want, you have to show the Universe you mean business by focusing your spiritual (thought and feeling) and physical (work) energy.

In my opinion, working towards something fervently is another form of meditation. You're focusing on making it a reality in the physical with your ACTIONS but also mentally FOCUSING on it intently as you work, thus affecting the spirit realm! Double whammy!

So, as an amendment to my 1st post: Nothing is more important than how you FEEL and how you ACT! And remember, your actions usually follow your true feelings. So, even if you think you're all positive and focused, you can tell what you're REALLY thinking about and how you REALLY feel by how you're acting.

        Write it down.

There is a huge difference between thinking about something and writing it down.

Be as specific as you can about what it is you want and when you want it. Realize when you set this timeframe that you must take action to make it happen. Can you take the action necessary to make a million dollars in a week? Some can, maybe you can, be realistic.

Don't feel greedy if your dreams are huge.

If your goal is a monster, once you have specified it on paper, break it down on paper into manageable pieces and set timeframes to accomplish each of them. As deadlines approach or pass, adjust your due dates. Perhaps you broke your big goal own into 25 steps and you took an extra day to accomplish step 1, move the dates on the rest as necessary. Don't get frustrated or disappointed when you miss the dates. Realize, you are picking dates arbitrarily based on the knowledge you have before you are actually doing the work.

I used to do this as a kid when I ran track. I would draw the track at 400 meters and I'd specify a time I would want to run it in. Then I would divide the track in 4. I could run a 100 meters in around 10 or 11 seconds usually. But my best time in the 400 meters was up in the low 50's. What if I could run back to back 100's at 11 seconds. That would put me at 44. What a jump in time. My body has the ability to run the speed necessary, right now I just don't have the stamina. So If I gain in the stamina department, I can definitely improve the time. What if I run the first 100 meters in 11 seconds then run back to back 12's. that puts me at 48, still that's a 4 second jump, that's huge.

Sorry for the long boring detail. But I'm painting a picture of the types of thinking you need to do to accomplish the goal.

There is more than one way to skin a cat. As you break your big goals down, don't be afraid to brainstorm and think outside the box about all possible ways you know of that you can achieve the steps necessary to accomplish the goal.

Many will say, shoot for the stars, if you get 3/4 of the way there you still accomplished alot.

I say, if you get 3/4 of the way there, keep going. Once you achieve the goal, you will have another on the horizon. It's human nature.

Write it down. If you get the chance listen to "the strangest secret". It's on youtube. It speaks to some of what I talked about here.

While I would like to believe that one can manifest something by simply desiring it, I highly doubt that is true. Usually, one must take ACTION and EARN it.

My closest experience of "thoughts and desires become things" is when I was playing Texas Hold'em poker. I had four cards to a spade straight flush, and I was wishing a five of spades would come and give me a straight flush. I was really focusing and hoping, and when the turn came, BAM! It was the five of spades! My first reaction was HOLY SH!T! Maybe this DOES work! I tried doing the exact same thing several more times that night, but it didn't work. Having said that, I think I am going to have to ultimately attribute the event to luck and coincidence.

it's all about expectations. you have to filter out the present thoughts of lack and inject "faith" (not hope, but faith). expect to get what you want but remember there's a season for everything. once you get your thoughts right (thoughts become things) you then take action. follow your intuition. always be moving towards your goal. life always rewards effort.

You really have to zone in on a blank state. I find when I am highly tense that intense exercise is the only thing that can break me out of distracting thoughts. It sort of pushes my physical and mental thresh holds so that I have to be able to handle more. This enables my body and mind to enjoy and find comfort in relaxing and not thinking about anything.

I had to practice at it for a long time but over time i got better at using the blank state to my advantage. Building visions within that blank state of mind helped me see what i really wanted.

So yes, in a manner of speaking, you can manifest desire by wanting it as every idealized reality started with the vision or thought of the reality. BUT you cannot have it simply by sitting and meditating 24 hours a day. There has to be some sort of action directed toward your visualized goal to make it a reality in the physical world. The vision just creates the end template for what you would eventually achieve.

To understand this, maybe it's useful to look at the flip side of the coin.

Whatever you think of not wanting something, or think of the opposite result of what you want, regardless of how you state it, it'll almost always become true to a certain degree...so there's some truth to what you're asking about. I think the key here is "to what extent". We want to get these universal laws working in our favors, and not against us, so if we can activate them in the direction we want, the question that follows is, "what can we do to MAXIMIZE the degree to which we experience these results?"

My answer has always been three fold: clarity, focus, consistent action. If you can achieve these three, the degree of the manifestation of these results will be higher than in the absence of them.

To give a more concrete example, if you simply stare intently in the space in front of you and wish for a glass of water to appear, stupid as it may sound, it's not going to appear. Given an eternity, it still won't.

But if you (1) get very clear about what you want (let's say you're thirsty), (2) focus on what you have to do (you find a source of water/some place where you can get a beverage), (3) take consistent action (well, in this case, you only need to take action once, that is - quench your thirst by drinking), you'll most certainly get your result, one of the ways which might comprise of going into the pantry and fetching a glass of water.

    Hope this helps,
    Baggio.

Believing in and contemplating a desire is important; however positive thinking is an incomplete equation. You need one more vital ingredient. Your subconscious mind, which controls the overwhelming majority of your behavior, is the five thousand pound gorilla in the room.

I will drive this thread into the gutter by explaining .. for a long time i wanted to have sex with young though of legal age.. big breasted very beautiful ..bi sexual women .. it was one of the reasons i wanted to get rich or at least make a lot of money ..but i am almost 35 and i could shoot a movie called the 35 year old nearly virgin complete with the chest waxing seen .. and it would sound like cartmen from south park cussing up a storm ..

Her is the thing that wanting no matter how many hours a day i put into thinking of it.. did not line up with the core of who i was .. and at a level i kept myself broke to not go down that path ..

now though on the other side of the planet i am in long term contact .. with the woman who meet the list of thing i would want in a woman .. but never really expected to find in one package ..now my being broke keeps us separated ..but with her encouragement ..and desire to have me all to herself .. i have had to push the old compulsive thoughts out of my mind ..

Now in doing so in weeding the garden ..i have planted a dream of a much better life around where she is ..with her ..and i have had a ton of really good ideas flow into my mind one what i can do to make it happen.. once i get over this totally broke state ..

sometime what you want and what you think about much of the time..is little more than logical cocain ..that does little more than make you feel better for a time and give you a little rush ..

do you really want what you think you really want .. is it a though that plays in your head .. or is it a though that settles in your heart and gives you drive ..

also look at what you say your really want.. if it is a lists ..are they item that are closely targeted ..and seem to support one another .. or are they items that pull you in a different direction from one another

Kevin I think you know this is all a crock. You manufacture desire through your own thoughts and your history is a mystery to me. Self discovery is an individual path and if anyone tell you other wise they are lying. There are plenty of books that say things yet none of those authors are on the forbes 400 list. The way to get what you desire is through action.

P.S. Listen to the part where Eric Thomas says, "you can buy any book that's not the challenge" in video below. Note: I have listened to that part well over 100 times just to embed in my own brain. Nothing comes without repetition.

Yes, exercise helps me A Lot...to settle down and focus or not have 'mind be like monkey' all over the place...
Kevin32..this is a HUGE subject, and one that unfortunately no one can give you a prescription for. As we are all highly complex as humans and there are so many things that can get between what we "think" we want and actually having it.
By and large the concept of "The Secret" is wishful thinking BS that sounds nice but I guarantee you will not work...I don't care how pure and blissful your thoughts are stacks of crisp hundred dollar bills are not going to fall in your lap while you sit in front of the tv in your Lazyboy.

We get what we want and are presented with all opportunity through other people.
So, thinking positively and focusing on what your objective is will bring the right people and opportunities to you...that will only happen if you are getting out there on the field where these people are...they are not going to come drag you from in front of your tv. Not at all trying to be condescending or suggest your lazy - just a problem I see with "The Secret". Only the lesser half of the equation...the action will do far more for you!
An excellent book that has some great exercises for changing the 'frequency' of your thoughts...and explaining 'frequency' to begin with is "Ask and It Is Given" by Esther Hicks, she is in "The Secret" and probably does some of the best work on the subject.

        I put this simple exercise in another post but relevant here as well;
Just ignoring negative events so that you don't FOCUS on them is delusional and will do more harm than good, if you need to - use the negative events to focus on what you do want to accomplish.
Negative events and times in our lives are natural and can not be avoided or ignored.
However, we live in a society that promotes complaining, guilt, worry, drama, etc...
So here's a way to use that negativity that we are so used to productively.
Here's a quick trick to turn your focus to the positive without even trying!
This works for everything I can think of...take a problem or question...
Take a sheet of paper and put a big T at the top.
On the left side at the top of the T write; DON'T WANT
On the right side of the T write; WANT
Here's an example - Let's take something like FINANCES
        For the DON'T WANT side I put;
        Too much debt
        Constantly struggling
Stuck in a miserable job to pay bills
        etc...
        On the WANT side;
        No debt
        Easy to pay bills
Do something I love and enjoy

This has worked so well it's almost uncanny! Give it a shot - you might be surprised.
An excellent movie on this is "What the Bleep Do We Know", I think it's much better than "The Secret" personally...explains the science, biology, and so forth behind it...very cool stuff and entertaining, I've given the movie away at least a dozen times.

Realize also that much of what we want isn't really material at all - those are just the trophies for BECOMING the person that can achieve the result...which takes self growth...which takes work.
        Don't ignore rule # 1
There is NO FREE LUNCH in the Universe - Period.
Even though I am an ardent believer in self development and positive thinking, I have gotten everything I have out of being Discontent - not always misery and unhappiness, but at least wanting something else!
Never ignore the power of being pissed off and demanding change from your life.
There are libraries full of stories of rags to riches following a 'hitting bottom'.
I wrote an article about it - The Power of Being Discontent

I think the easiest way to get anything fast into our life is by keeping our wanting high and stopping our needing for the relevant item or circumstance at minimum.

Been needy of something always will push it away. And many people already commented here while they were saying " Act as if you already have it". I believe that's the key.

We set many barriers to our mind and this is why things take very long to manifest.

If we could just decide what we want and take MASSIVE ACTION on it, I am sure things will start changing for the best very fast.

The answer is no you can not. You must take action. To think otherwise is immature and leads to wasted time and frustration. That said thinking is a powerful force when followed by action.

The answer is yes and no.

Yes because when you really want something, you will dream about it, think about it and most importantly you talk about it. Repeating your desire not only commits yourself to do something about it, forces you to be accountable for what you said, but opens up the opportunities for people around you to offer help/tips because you told them what you want.

I have personally felt that things are sent my way when I want something bad enough. But the "something" always stems from the desire to do greater good. Help is then sent my way one way or another, making the journey easier, and I no longer have the excuse not to finally act upon it. So I agree with the previous Warrior that without action, manifestation is not possible. Wanting something bad enough just makes the action easier

Hey there... using visualization and trying to feel like you already have achieved what you want is pretty much widely known to help to achieve results faster. But so is finding a mentor. And so is working your butt off…

Even Napoleon Hill says you have to work for what you want. This is taken (pretty much) straight from Think and Grow Rich. He says to state this out loud multiple times a day:
By the first day of <date>, I will be averaging income <income amount> which will come to be through <fill in blank>. In return for this money I will give the most efficient service of which I am capable, rendering the fullest possible quantity, and the best possible quality of service in the capacity of <fill in blank> through <fill in blank>. I believe that I will have this money in my possession. My faith is so strong that I can now see this money before my eyes. I can touch it with my hands. It is now awaiting transfer to me at the time, and in the proportion that I deliver the service I intend to render in return for it. I will follow the plan that I have received.

To help me I record my own affirmations with Audacity and just put that MP3 on my DROID. I believe in NET (No Extra Time). So if I'm driving - I'm listening. If I'm waiting in line - I'm listening.

And I think Jim Rohn said it best - "Affirmation with action leads to delusion."

Great posts!:-) I did learn that in order to manifest anything you have to focus (have a dominant thought) and you have to do your part (put in some efforts) while letting the Universe do its part also (you don't really need to worry extensively about the how). Finally you also have to detach yourself from the outcome because if you want something too badly you may repell it.

So, LOA stuff again.. Personally, I define LOA = Law Of Action / Lots Of Action

This principle has helped me achieve MORE of my goals (not ALL) time and time again...

      Try it!
