Motivational Speaking As A Career

Hey everyone. I have a question I would like to ask. Has anyone in here done any type of motivational speaking, or made a career as a speaker?

I've been interested in jumping into it, however I don't really know where to start. I find myself doing "busy" work like reading.

SubUrbanHype - Motivations speaking is a big business and if you are serious about building a career in this field, you've got to motivate yourself first

When there is no dream, there is no dream.
When there is no goal, there is no motivation.

    Where to start from?
Well, write down your dreams and goals first. Make a list of your strengths and also your weaknesses. Then, make a plan of action to achieve those dreams. Seek mentorship from somebody who is already there where you want to be. I think this is a great step to begin your journey. Don't you think you will need to get experienced in doing these things effectively to be able to motivate your audience tomorrow?

    I hope this helps a bit :-)

    Regards,
    Kumar

Thanks for your advice. Maybe I should have cleared it up a little bit more. I am doing these things already, and I already do a little bit of speaking to people as it is.

I just am a little stuck as to how people begin to build a career out of this.

Right now I am creating an internet marketing campaign for myself to see how it works out. But I know I could use some advice from anyone that has been doing it for a while.

I've reached out to some speakers already, but as you might have guessed it is pretty difficult to get their attention.

I would also Strongly suggest for you to join your local toastmasters, as well as attend their speech competitions. I was a member of them for 3 years and it's one of the most supportive environments you can be apart of.

They're great aren't they? I joined my local one last year.

What I love is their military precision in helping you improve the flow of the way you talk. For anyone who has never been to a Toastmasters meeting, what they do is get a person to count the number of times a speaker uses a filler word like "um, ah, well, you know etc".

        Brutal but brilliant.

I've done it - it's a blast! I'm taking my book on tour this year and plan to speak on any stage that'll have me. If you feel you really want to impact lives then get out there.

It is possible. In fact my biggest client is a motivational speaker and "guru" for her niche...she is a huge extrovert and speaks to audiences frequently...

are there any specific questions, because of course it is possible, but is it probable with regards to what you are willing to put into, let alone if it is a good match for your goals and personality.

Be yourself, while you are speaking. Tell them all your experiences and your achievements before you become successful. Always remember, that if you really love that new career, you can make your dream come true.
