Are your intentions aligned with your goal?

Do you ever set a goal for yourself, and then wonder why you don't follow through?

Think about this for a moment: What is the intention of having your goal?

For example, if your goal is to lose 20 pounds, and your hidden intention that drives it is based on wanting acceptance from others, then chances are you won't lose the weight.

Why? Because if your friends call you out for dinner, you will not likely resist since rejecting the invitation may give you feelings of non-acceptance from them. And since you want to be accepted by others, you will likely go out to eat with them and thereby gain weight.

The same is true in business. Ever wonder why you procrastinate? Perhaps it's due to a desire to feel safe/secure. So if your goal is to earn $5,000 a month and your intention that drives your goal is to feel a sense of security, has it ever occurred to you that procrastination is the result of wanting to feel safe?

If taking action is scary then, you'll probably procrastinate!

So you must align your goal with your intention. One practical way to do that is to identify your hidden intention to see if it's working for you. Ask yourself, "What do I ultimately want by having my goal?" If your answer is driven by a sense of lack or limitation then you most likely won't have your goal.

If your motive for having your goal is based on approval seeking, then whenever you are faced with a choice between seeking approval and doing something that is 'good for you', you will likely seek approval and compromise your progress/joy. This is why so many people are stuck. It is also why so many people are lazy. They prefer the laziness/comfort because it gives them a feeling of safety.

Hey Jason, great post! Aligning your intentions with your goals is they key but it's sometimes difficult to do because we are not always clear about our intentions. You hit it right when you mentioned the underlying need to seek for approval. We do a lot of things for that reason without realizing it. All that to say that it pays to reflect and medidate when working on our goals in order to make sure of positive outcomes.

Goals are good, but if you are the kind of person that only dreams big, you better make some changes in the way you think. I mean it's not wrong to dream, but you better work hard to dream big, right?
    Taking action is the answer

      Taking action is the answer
That's right. You need to make your mind and action bigger than your dream if you want to live with your dreams. If your intention is aligned with your goals, you can observe better results since you will really work for it.

'Actions are based on intentions' .
Goals, ambitions, dreams are all pretty much the same thing. It is the intention that transforms a mere vision into reality. If you wanna loose 20 pounds even if you want to show off. No problem! You need to have the intention to do so!
