Gave up TV and my productivity jumped!

Has anyone else experienced a productive boost under similar or other circumstances?

Not only was I throwing away time with the excuse of entertainment, I was slowly buying into negativity. Have you watched any NEWS lately? Not good! I reached a point where I refused to do it any longer.

The amazing thing is I didn't find a substitute time waster. That shift restored my focus and gave me back a serious part of my work schedule that was being wasted.

Any other warriors experience anything like this?

I regret the many hours i wasted with TV. Sad stats that the average chap spends 35 hours in front of a 'junk box', monthly/weekly is regrettable.

I Agree Tv are really "bad news" you will only get negative and won't get anything done.
The day i stopped watching tv both my productivity and motivation increased...
I only get in front of the Tv when i want to see a movie and that's like 1-2 times in a month!

  • Thank you, everyone! Just as I suspected about the negativity associated with TV.

You posted very interesting comments, all with a personal twist that allowed me to appreciate your findings that much more. Awesome! . . . and encouraging.

I don't know, I can't see that giving up TV would benefit me much.

However, I only watch between 1-2 hours of TV per day - quite often only half an hour for PTI (Pardon The Interruption on ESPN, really great!)

I don't watch news because I get most of it online.

What I SHOULD be doing is cutting down on my internet time lol...

I used to be one of those kids who fell asleep with the TV on.

Now, I can't even remember the last time I actually sat down and watched a FULL show.
I actually just gave my dad the TV that I mounted above the bookshelf in my bedroom. All it did was collect dust.

Which is a good thing because...

It kept the dust off of the books underneath, which is now where I spend my free time.

And I used to HATE to read. It's funny how things change over time.

If I REALLY want to watch TV (I love the show "Sharktank" and other business-y shows), i'll just go on YouTube or something and watch them. Saves time and money. Can't beat that.

I never watched the news, but I've found that if you have a facebook or twitter, you really don't have to. You'll find out all you need to know in about 2 seconds. Another time and money saver.

Great idea to ferret out those TIME VAMPIRES in your life and stake them!

Other influences in our lives may be draining our life force as well. I remember a big player marketer saying on an e mail that when he ditched the "Head banging" music he listened too for something more positive his productivity jumped dramatically.

There are so many things to do that you get overwhelmed. You can’t finish anything because you’re frequently jumping between tasks.
It is very simple. more time on work, more focus, more money

100%. I hardly watch any tv these days, it is a serial time drain. I know people who spend over 5 hours every day stuck in front of the tv, such a travesty.

TV is mindless and numbs your brain. I would rather read a good book or have a conversation with a stranger.

I need to give up watching the ID network. Very addictive. Haven't kept up with basketball too often either - my favorite motivational speaker - ET told me to stay away from the NBA playoffs

Yes, Yes, and Yes. While I didn't give up on tv completely, I cut down my viewing time significantly and completely cut out various online activities that were distracting me. I think we all can fine tune our productivity by removing or adjusting the things that so easily distract us.

TV can be time consuming specially knowing that there are so many good shows hour after hour. Cutting it down for a while is actually good and you realize that there is nothing to miss really.

Hi There LastingLifeSuccess, The I gotta say good job on tuning out to tv, I myself have a personal hate for media with all the spread gloom that it does have a negative effect on my mind, especially how it kills productivity.

I recently spoke with a friend who worked with a few networks and he said the most well known reason why they broadcast stuff like that is because that's what the demographic tunes in to get their ratings up.

I also decided to tune out to the tv, because I was deeply disturbed by what crap they were putting out there, I was happy when I did because I also noticed my productivity went up, I was able to get a grip back on my own view of life and ground myself.

If any warrior is planning to give up tv I say do so! keep it for movies and video presentations and if you have a gaming console where you play a few sports games with your friends. Then that would be useful, aside from that, mainstream media, I say NO THANK YOU.

TV is not called idiot box without a reason. It makes you into an idiot. People become non-thinkers and become lazy and idle when they watch too much TV. Not to mention the fact that so many precious hours are wasted each and every day in senseless stuff.

As they say, busy people (especially those building their own business!) doesn't even know what's going on in the NEWS and CURRENT EVENTS!

And I can totally relate on this... I don't even have the luxury to watch the news! And even listen on the radio while on the road (because my motivational CD is on my car playing!). Isn't that amazing when we don't even have that time to sit on the couch to watch TV because we are too focused on our money-making activity, helping other people and building our business?.... oh well, I don't since 9 years ago!

I am just proud of myself never been a TV person!

Of course it will increase your productivity.

Personally i think that TV is not a bad thing. But it should be used as a reward after successfully completing your daily tasks.

    Cheers,

That's the step I'm currently taking --- eliminating television. I currently watch murder mysteries on ID and A&E, NBA games and my favorite show American Greed. I'll even catch market news on CNBC. I end up spending a lot of time doing these things, which will come to an end. Also, not only is the TV itself bad for you, then we also have trashy entertainment on YouTube and other video sites which should be avoided as well.

I saw some people mention avoiding the news. I don't know if I can agree with that. As a business owner, you want to know what's going on in the world. You don't have to watch TV to get the news. I have newspaper subscriptions. Besides, TV news is just a bunch of noise anyways. You'll get better information by reading the newspaper.

TV is like a poison, it can really ruin life. I used to watch lots of TV, but not anymore and I am glad for that.

I gave up tv 10 years ago for about a year, then again 2 years ago. I still enjoy a good film once in a while and my son got me hooked on Dr Who on the iPlayer...

But what about newspapers! I gave up those negativity spreading rags in 1992, one of the beat things I ever did! Bad news sell and infects the mind.

I gave up TV. It does not mean I do not watch it, but I do it just twice a day. Some news while I get coffee in the morning, and another one during my dinner. That is more then enough.

Cutting out TV can literally make your brain grow - or at least that my theory!

      Creativity rockets.

Admitedly I have watched a little over the past couple of days, but only The Apprentice and a few cooking shows.

Tv is a commercial thing.. if you need to get
yourself entertained when you need it and
if you think you need to know about news
you get it thro internet thats a good way to
get what you want and when you want rather
than watching something which was programmed
    by some one for you..
    be the best..

TV for the most part is absolute garbage. Their motive is to sell us on stuff we don't need.

"Poor people like to be entertained, rich people like to be educated."

We only have so many hours in the day, and if we want to grow our entertainment should come from our personal achievements.
