The Easy Path is the one with the least reward

I saw this picture on cracked this morning which inspired me to post it and this personal quote on twitter.

"Realizing that the easy path is the one with the least reward. #lifelesson"

i disagree ...but not entirely .it depends on the situation .

the safe and comfortable path is usually the one with the least rewards .

if there is a fence between you and where you want to go ..you can take the safe path of walking to the closest gate ..or the easy path over the fence .

    but where i agree .

it is much easier to look for a pill to take to lose weight ..than to learn to eat healthy and move to get to the best weight for you .

it is easy to take a drug to feel better ..than it is to either learn how to feel better or remove what is causing you to feel bad in the first place .

This is so true. Look at trust fund kids who haven't made a living fir themselves. A lot of them mess their lives up. They got money through an easy path but didn't really learn how to manage their lives properly.

This is a big reason why even though I did buy a Powerball ticket I didn't want to win. Yeah the money would get me the things I want but it wouldn't give me the life I truly want.

i bought tickets..for my mom and dad ..i would have been fine if i bought winning the smaller 10's of thousands of dollars ..i personally do get dumb luck..any luck i will ever get is from what i do ..real lucky people create environments that open them to having luck ... or have an awareness to notice things others don't .

          • Hi Aaron,

I see what you are saying about staying the course instead of being directed to the nearest exit.

            Great graphic by the way.

I agree that life loves to give us the bigger prize the day we are willing to go the extra mile and work for it.

            Good post. Thanks!

I think motivation can be found in so many places. It's all about how you view the world. I view it looking for motivation so even a simple fan made graphic like this from a comedy site inspires me.

Be open to be inspired and inspiration will be provided at every turn.

There are multiple paths to the reward such as your two ways past the fence. But for most people the easy path will be neither of those if you get my meaning.

you are correct ..most people would stop at the fence and if they didn't give up and turn around that would call someone for advice wait for devine intervention on what to do ..or wait untill someone else comes along to see what they do ..

most people want to follow a recipe ..want someone else to tell them what to do.. or some power from up high ..

the problem is there is no recipe to do what a trump does , a bill gates ,or a warren buffet ..heck even warren buffet isn't doing 1/10 the stuff people say warren buffet would do most of the time .

the easy thing to do is to give a bunch of money to a berni madoff who had a track record of amazing returns for a long time .

i just get annoyed a simplified cliches that tend to give people the wrong idea .

the most rewarding path is the most challenging path you can handle and beat.. or almost beat but makes you want to try again

the most rewarding paths make us better and push us to do thing we never believed we can do ..

at the same time if it is your first day skying you might be better off sticking to the easy slopes and building skills .

but going back i understand the true meaning of the picture ..and it does point out the sad state most people live in ..doing jobs or going through parts of life just trying to get to the next part ..without getting the reward for being there ..dooming themselves to a live of missed rewards ..

Aaron; In most cases, there is no fence. Or you can make the fence disappear.

There are easy paths, but those paths rarely lead to the same place as the difficult path.

And (I'm feeling especially wise today ) the benefit of a difficult path is what you learn on the way. Getting over a few fences teaches you the most effective path over the fence. You get stronger, smarter. That's the real payoff, in my opinion.

I made that all as cryptic and non-specific as possible. It makes me look both wise, and mysterious. Sort of like an older Batman.

There is an other way to get to the other side of the fence. When you realize you don't want to go to the other side, as you discover you are happy to stay on this side of the fence. Then you are already there, on the other side, without having to take even one step.

I call this effortless effort. If you can not be happy here and now you will never
    be happy.

"What you are looking for is what you are looking with"

The fence might only be an illusion.

Good point you make here Aaron. I've always believed that the single most common reason that people fail at anything, is because they give up and 'head for the exit' before they allow their self to succeed at what they're trying to do.

"Fences" you run into along the way can be looked at two ways.

They are either obstacles or opportunities. Which you consider them says a lot about you.

Also the fence thing was in reference to Odahh's first post I was planning to stick to the video game metaphor originally. But if we want to get into comic metaphors I think Thanos would be a better choice for this discussion. You can only lose "ultimate" power so many times before it is clear you don't really want it.

Speaking of that thanks to you I just googled and learned there is a new Thanos Miniseries coming out called Infinity. Assuming a certain demigod is going after the gems again. Will it be as good at the Starlin original? Doubt it but still excited.

claude no need for you to look mysterious or wise .

you word are valuable when right to the point .

at this point in your life you have been over plenty of fences ..i bet you plan ahead to make sure you show up very close to the gate .

if you are going to learn something from a path you probably have what you intend to learn before you enter the maze ..

my own path has been pretty brutal and unforgiving ..but as i finally get closer to being someone i am proud to be ..I think the only thing i would change is to see the state i would be in now or a few months from now..while i was going through the toughest parts .

but my brain has learned to clip away and fight against things where there is wasteful difficulty ..that has no purpose but to waste time and energy ..

when it comes to growth for me . The real reward is when something that was once difficult or near impossible ..becomes easier or even simple.

even though my writing is not that good 4 or 5 years ago ..this post would have taken me ten times longer .

Odahh;8093226; OK, you were serious, so I'll be serious.

The great thing about fences is that they have no intention. They don't care if you find an easy path over them, around them, or if you turn around and go home.

After a few decades of solving problems, and trying to learn from it all, I can give you a little insight. Here...

Your problems are never as bad as you think. Never. There is always a solution...there is always one more thing you can do to make it better. Always.

For a few years, I had back pain so bad that I would cry...not because I was sad...but because the pain was unrelenting.

I still worked, selling vacuum cleaners in people's homes.
And about ten years ago, the pain just went away. Do you know what I have now? The certainty that I can withstand any pain, and keep going.

Ever get a call that your brother has been beaten to death?
Ever watch a loved one die...right in front of you?

We can take it. We can take anything.

Haven't you solved every problem that you've faced years ago? And years from now, you'll look back at the problems you are facing now...and they won't even make a good story, they will seem so minor.

The reward of scaling a high fence is that now you know how to scale a high fence...and eventually, you'll become almost fearless. Or you'll give up.

I feel so sorry for people that are given everything they need. They don't develop survival skills. They can't identify with pain. They don't know what we know.

Much of what we think about, and anguish over, is because we have no real problems. Don't feel motivated? Suffer from low self esteem? Worried that a girl doesn't love you?

Spend the night in another country without knowing the language. Run from a gang that wants to beat you to death. Weigh your options while on a sinking ship...in the middle of an ocean. Your life is heaven, as it is now.

Our lives are picnics compared to any life 100 years ago.

You have a computer. Really? NASA would have killed 50 years ago for a pocket calculator. Do you have air conditioning? Really? Local stores where...for a few dollars...you can buy food that you would spend a season to grow.

Want to make a phone call...for free? to anywhere in the country? 30 years ago, you would have been called a crackpot for saying it was possible. 200 years ago, you would have been called a witch.

Our life expectancy used to be 40 years. Stop complaining. Every tool you need to create a successful life is within reach.

      Children.

someone need to print that in a news papper.. ...oh wait..or get it on something people will read ..

I have put my mind back together in the last few years and crawled out from under a lifetime of terible mental abuse ..and i just put back pain behind me that limited me to being on my feet 10-20 minute in any spot ..or carrying anything ..without feeling like someone put a clamp on my spine ..

i am broke because i refused to go for disability or i didn't stay on food stamps ..and the condition i was in mentally and physically made getting or holding a job.. short term.

i take care of my elderly parents ..but i am looking for where i can make my contribution to this world ..

i would rather get out of the Us for a bit ..the mindset of decline ,decay ,and dependence grates on me when i look at all the great thing happening ..and the stuff coming down that is good and bad but awesome if you prepare ..

part of why my mind got tore apart so bad was i saw the trends that where happening and didn't see my place in it.. but i know see my place in the trends developing now .

my path has been hard but i think i said the only thing i would change is knowing years ago i would get through it ..

now we are in a post industrial economy ..the hardest thing to do today is to try and do what the easiest thing to do was for 60 years ..many people are just waiting for thing to get back to how they where ...waiting for people to come along create and give the jobs the easy path of old .

it just doesn't work as well any more ...we must create our own role and make a contribution ..and not be content being over head

It is good to do thing efficiently. However, things can sometimes only be done efficiently to a certain extent. After that, hard work and perseverance are often in order.
