Forget Affirmations; Try Afformations Instead

Have you ever found yourself trying not to kid yourself with your affirmations?

"I am rich I am rich I am rich I am... Except I'm not...!" Doh!

Last year I read "The Secret Code of Success" by Noah St. John and it made a lot of sense.

In the book Noah St. John points out that affirmations tend to fail because they are making **statements** about things we know are not true.

Noah St. John made a small but crucial innovation. He turned the affirmations into questions which contain the affirmative statement as an "embedded supposition". This disarms the brain and - according to the hypothesis - causes it to seek for answers to the questions, leading to much better results.

He called his new version of affirmations "afformations" and went out and made a ton of money with his new teaching!

NOTE: Noah St. John emphasizes that when you use afformations you need to TAKE ACTION. The afformations work to clear your "head trash" enabling you to reach your goals without self-destructing on the way.

I've just recorded a set of afformations and have been playing them in the background for much of today. They certainly keep you juiced up.

Has anybody else tried Noah St. John's afformations or gone through any of his training programmes?

I've been using these for a while now and it really does work. I didn't like the afformation audios as much but doing it yourself can be highly effective. Just try it with different aspects of your life like productivity and you'll definitely see a difference.

    Hi Heavysm,

Thank you for your feedback. I definitely think it is better to make your own afformations rather than buy Noah's. I'm listening to mine, on low volume, right now. They certainly help to keep negative "head trash" under control!

Most of Noah's afformations are "why" questions and that is what I am sticking with. Do you use other types of questions in your afformations?

This is great! I usually listen to affirmations that I recorded, then hynosis tapes. The Hypnosis tapes are VERY effective, but you can't do anything else when you listen to them... I'll have to buy the book! If you have an affiliate link I'd be more than happy to put some money in your pocket!

It is quite common for people to raise that objection to the use of affirmation, however, it simply underscores the fact that they do not understand how they work.

That said, I also like the technique of asking questions. It is also very powerful, but it is a different technique, not an improvement on an existing one.

      Hi Will,

Could you elucidate a little more? Just stating that people "don't understand", but not telling us what we dummies are missing is not very helpful...

In The Secret Code Of Success (available on Amazon), Noah presents afformations as an improvement of affirmations.

"Why didn't affirmations work for most of us? If it were as easy as traditional teachers said, why did nothing happen for the rest of us? Were we simply incapable of thinking a positive thought? Were we not smart enough, motivated enough, educated enough... or did we just not try hard enough?
The answer is: none of these.
The answer is: You were given the wrong tool to do the job.
You were told you could change your mind using statements... when it's so much easier to overcome them using questions." p.54

@Gary: Taking my first example of an affirmation - "I am rich" - Noah St. John suggests that we turn it into a question with an embedded assumption: "Why am I so rich?" - asking this question "assumes" that it is true and challenges the mind to seek an answer, at least according to the hypothesis.

What about recruiting affiliates for your Internet business? Not "I recruit affiliates every day" but "Why do I recruit [X number of] affiliates every day?" and so on.

Pardon me: I did not mean to imply you were a "dummy" and I actually thought my comment was helpful i.e. pointing out the issue is a common objection to the use of affirmation.

As for how and why they work, you may find this resource helpful ...

I'm on page 70 of his book....some awesome stuff. Completely makes sense. I find that afformations don't flag my "bull***" alarms whereas some affirmations might.

I dunno about the failure of affirmations - I think people just don't do it enough. I listen to John Kehoe and he says to that even if it's NOT true and you DON'T believe your affirmations, just keep saying them - every single day for 30 days - yup a strict 30 days. Then... your mind starts believing the 'untrue' and then a new truth is born. Your mind is used to not believing something, and when you start telling it something different, it won't agree with you , but once you do it enough times, it starts believing it and then starts creating your reality accordingly. John has some intense trainings and this is one of them that has worked on thousands

It makes sense, but IF the question method - afformations - speeds up the process by disarming resistance, then it would make even more sense to incorporate it into the process.

I dont really think it matters if it's an afformation on affirmation. Its the faith and repetition that brings results. But like everything else, its my humble opinion.

I just had to bump this. I've been using afformations for the past few months in a variety of ways and believe i have found the strongest way to use them.

Either record yourself saying them and repeat them to yourself or hire a voice over actor to say them and listen on repeat.

Something about reading it and whispering it to myself wasn't strong enough, and my voice would grow hoarse after saying 160+ afformations to myself out loud, so i finally tried paying a voice over actor from fiverr. It's a 12 minute long track that i put on repeat but the effect is immediate and noticeable.

My afformations target everything from relationships, my business, school work and concentration and goal manifestation. It's hard to explain the effect this has had on me in as little as a week but it's been pretty darn tremendous.

I listen to it about 3 times in the morning as I'm studying, once or twice midday, then for as long as a i can at night.

I also don't know if it's simply that I'm seeing the world differently or what, but I could feel my brain shift while listening and I can honestly say this is the only thing i have tried that has made me feel this amazing this fast so consistently

I'm very grateful to have discovered Afformations. I've read both books by Noah St. John; The Secret Code of Success and The Book of Afformtions. I found both incredibly powerful and life changing.

I still believe affirmations are fantastic, but afformations are more powerful because they eliminate the belief gap.

I feel that afformations (unlike affirmations) are not really based on belief or faith, but on science.

When you begin using afformations (which is asking yourself WHY questions) your mind begins to search for the answers and guides you to the necessary actions that you need to take in order to answer those questions.

I have successfully used afformations to overcome shyness, certain fears, and to increase my confidence and self-belief.

I like to read my afformations aloud daily, and to also listen to the audio afformations that Noah St. John has created.

If you want to bring change to your life, then I highly recommend looking up Noah St. John; and start with the book The Secret Code of Success: 7 Hidden Steps to More Wealth and Happiness.

Your future self will thank you!

I got tired of listening to the afformation audios Noah created so i made my own and I seriously think that was the difference for me. I swear in no less than 2 - 3 days my entire mindset has shifted to reflect the attitude of my afformations.

Like i said before I paid a voice actor on fiverr to say the afformations out loud (just like Noah's audios, except these are my personal afformations). My audio has over 160 afformations and i listen to it as often as possible.

This is literally the only personal development trick that i have used that worked almost instantly. It rewires the way that you think so that you see the world differently. And I think that's the trick to creating extraordinary results; the mindset has to come fit the intended reality you want.

Just because this was so amazing I am going to pick up Noah's Secret Code of Success. I am a skeptic for most all things until i see evidence supporting the thing. This is one of those things that just knocks my socks off almost beyond what i thought was possible.

Yeah, affirmation or afformation doesn't matter. Repetition is the key. Of cousre, saying something like "I'm rich like a Bill Gates" won't make anyone rich. That's just stupid.

But saying something like "I am a solid business person, people love doing business with me." ... That makes sense, and even if it isn't true we will start believing that thanks to repetition. It's all about confidence.

Way cool! Any technique which changes your feelings can help affirmations take root. I dance, skip, laugh and smile my way gratefully to successful affirming but the afformation route works just as nicely. Do whatever mental or physical gymnastics you need to do in order to feel good about your affies.

Then, as you feel good, the ideas will begin to feel true, and all sorts of fun, magical stuff will happen in your life as the truth serum sets in and your affirmations take root. Do what it takes to feel amazing about your statement and the affirmation will come true as surely as the sun rises and sets each day, since the same Power fuels each event.
